The only bass you'll ever need

By Oskee

from San Diego, CA

Comments about Ernie Ball Music Man Bongo 4-String Bass with 2 Humbucker Pickups:

I too am used to playing 5 string basses and just a few months ago I went back to playing a 4 string bass because it was easier for slap/pop playing and my agility was greater. The only thing lacking was that LOW B sound. It was getting frustrating until I bought the Musicman Bongo 4-string. This bass holds it's own with the flexibility of tone, I was able to get that low sound that I needed for ballads. I never thought this would be capable from a 4-string bass. Then too add to my pleasure, this bass records beautiful. From doing studio work with it and comparing it to my previous bass guitars, this bass takes the prize. My previous bass guitars were a 5-string Carvin (great sound) and a Fender American Deluxe Jazz Bass (4-string). Sure, the Bongo is not the prettiest but it does have the best sound. I've been playing for 10 years and have heard and played different bass guitars. Go with the Bongo, you will not regret it. Go with the 4-string to make those 5-string bass players jealous with the sound you get off of it. =) Another selling point, BMW helped design this bass. My Bongo is actually good looking, I got a Graphite color one, two humbuckers, and a abalone pickup. My Bongo is a pretty one and has killer sound. Don't waste money on another bass guitar, this is the only one you'll ever need.

bongo 4 hh

Comments about Ernie Ball Music Man Bongo 4-String Bass with 2 Humbucker Pickups:

I love this bass. The eq knobs are very sensitive. When I want to dial in different tones, its so easy and so versatile. i love the deep funky sounds it can make. The only problem i have with the bass is the neck has a satin finish. My hands tend to sweat alot, so the grime builds up pretty easily. I need to constantly wipe the neck down during breaks. After playing for a few months more, it doesn't get as grimy as quickly.

Most Diverse Bass Sounds Ever!

By Convivial1

from Overland Park, KS

Comments about Ernie Ball Music Man Bongo 4-String Bass with 2 Humbucker Pickups:

I just bought one this weekend and WOW!!! I have always been a Stingray fan because of how punchy they sound. I got a deal on this bass. It sounds like the Singray, then I can change pickup blend and get a P-Bass or Warwick sound. Truthfully I set the blend in the middle and the EQ flat on the bass and on my Eden preamp and it sounds better than anything I have ever heard. Did I mention WOW!!!

Well Worth the Price

Comments about Ernie Ball Music Man Bongo 4-String Bass with 2 Humbucker Pickups:

If you want a bass with lots of eq involved, excellent onboard preamp, and awesome pickups look no further. Yes, the shape is a little aerodynamic looking and it feels that way too. The paint is ultra shiny. But this bass is so smooth from the neck to body. It is very light weight. You will be suprised if you pick one up like me in the store and play it (before I bought it). It has a really nice feel standing which is usually more difficult to find in a bass. The sound is hard to describe but it's like a standard musicman bass (stingray or sterling) on steroids. But it also has excellent tone and definition with more punch. It has more punch than its brothers the sterling/stingray because it has 2 batteries to power the electronics. It seems like the pickups are stonger too. And nobody wants weak pickups on a bass. The Eq on it is easy to use and only adds to all the different tones you can get with it. And... The only problem with it is all the batteries you'll be using on it. The pickups soak up batteries. Blast the Bass!!!

Favorite Music Man basses!

By Jason Ralston _

from Sterling, CO.

Comments about Ernie Ball Music Man Bongo 4-String Bass with 2 Humbucker Pickups:

I own 4 of these basses, all in different pickup configurations. 4H, 4Hp, 4HH and 4HHp. This bass was made in connection with BMW and the code name for it was Bongo thus the name. Originally designed to be the next step in musical instruments like the Fender Precision was in the 50's. These basses are the most versatile I have ever owned! Good for every kind of music and in any setting from live to the studio. Some key advice though. Because this bass is so versatile, it has very hot pickups! Don't max all of the knobs out. Start at 50% and make slight adjustments to the sound you want from there. I also prefer to set my eq on my amp completely flat to allow the bass to give it's true tones. This bass was a labor of love by Sterling Ball and I am so grateful that he made this bass and wasn't afraid to go against the tradition of everything else!

Design "Strange", but excellent bass

By GUISEPPE VALTER DIURNO

from New York, NY

Comments about Ernie Ball Music Man Bongo 4-String Bass with 2 Humbucker Pickups:

I was not particularly excited about the design of this bass. Initially I have bought the Big-Al, but it came with a defective pick-up. So instead of waiting several months for a replacement, I have tried this bass. The fingerboard is excellent, fast and smooth , 24 frets ! You might think that 24 frets are too many. Certainly depends on what kind of music you play, but for a creative approach to the bass, you can really used the upper section of the bass as a classic guitar. The sound is amazing with the 4 band eq and the continuos pan-pot to select the pickups you can obtain any kind of sound. From Jaco-like sound (of course in not a Fender Jazz, but it can be close), to reggae deep bass. Soft and smooth for jazz, aggressive for rock. Slap style is extremely effective, the finger board and low action will give you many options, double thumb, tapping. A little bit of adjustment and precision is required for those used to have more space between the neck pickup and the neck, such as for player coming from the StingRay or Fender Jazz. But are minimal adjustments. The look is the least favorite part, but I think it is personal, everybody that I showed the bass, they think is cool, personally I have more "traditional" tastes (I play double bass, jazz mostly, thus this bass is not really fitting in that environment), but I decided to give 5 stars anyway, because after several months I am used to the look, and all thinks considered is not that bad ( I have a black version with 2HH). Finishing and overall quality is standard MM , thus not even worth discussing it, excellent for mass market instruments.

Great Sounding Bass !!!

By FRANCISCO

from Hillsboro, Texas

Comments about Ernie Ball Music Man Bongo 4-String Bass with 2 Humbucker Pickups:

From the moment I took the bass out of its packaging I was just stunned. When I plugged it in I was so happy with every sound I got out of this bass. I love the EQ setup and the EQ itself. It just sounds amazing. The EQ is very sensitive so I can tweak this bass as much as I need to with very little knob turning. I like playing with a low string setup, I was able to set it up just how I like it. I had never before owned a MusicMan bass guitar, I have always owned Ibanez basses, which I do still love. I just wanted to try something new.
