I've owned a lot of good and some great guitars, and this is one of the best playing, best sounding, best made, and most versatile of them all. The neck came practically straight as an arrow, and it plays fast without buzz. The humbuckers are unusually bright, clear, and articulate, and can be dialed down to jazzy mellow without being muddy. Unlike some "perfect" guitars, this one exudes some personality, too. Great for rock, jazz, country, blues, pop, R&B, and everything in between. I was surprised at how easily it replaced my strat for funk playing. It cuts every bit as well as the strat's single coils, but isn't at all thin and anemic sounding when played clean. I like the locking tuners for the convenience, and fewer string turns for intonation. I wish the tremolo could be set to lift as well as dive, that's the only disappointment. If I try to set it to do that, the intonation isn't right because the lowest saddle won't go back far enough. Anyway, it's a minor complaint. The unusual shape is interesting to look at, the finish is first-rate, and it's comfortable to hold. I mainly use it with a 1968 Fender "drip edge" Bandmaster through a Bogner oversized 2x12 cab with Celestial V30s (great combination) for recording.
The most musical guitar that I have ever owned! The compensated nut just makes it sound so in-tune. Once you hear it, guitars with a standard nut always sound out of tune. I have had mine for 6 months. It is Eldorado gold. I had been eyeballing them for some time and when my local GC got one in gold, I was sold. Once the rosewood with the gunstock oil is a dream to play. Although bright, resonant and snappy, the DiMarzio pickups are quite bright for humbuckers and actually make the guitar sound brighter than it sounds acoustically! If you want a darker tone, the tone control works very well! With treble being 10, back it down to about 2 and it delivers a nice darkish tone without being muddy! The volume does a very good job of keeping tone consistent when backed off. There are so many tones in this guitar that it pretty much covers every thing... from Stratish-Tele tones to full on humbucker. I own/have owned many guitars from Gibson, Fender, PRS, G&L, etc. I love this guitar, it's a keeper!
One of these just arrived at my local GC. At first the guitar took me back abit with the "retro-future-jetsons" body. But when I held it the balance, fit and feel were amazing. The neck is the perfect size. The pickups compliment the full rosewood neck quite well. I actually like it better than my Paul Reed Smith Artist 24 or my Fender Jeff Beck Stratocaster. Looks like I will either be clearing out some gear or finding a part-time gig to pay for an upcoming expenditure...
Lots of guys have lots of different guitars but they know which one(s) fit them best and often have more than one - and this fits me perfectly. Plays and sounds super. My best guitar buddy understands why I got these after I (carefully) allowed him to play one (I found two in limited "Turquoise Blue" and "El Dorado Gold") it's kinda like you go buy a shirt and it fits so well you buy 4 or 5 of them. I haven't owned them long enough to comment on reliability, color fade, other suggestions to the right ---> But of course they are quality instruments to begin with so I have no expectations of things breaking or whatever. Too heavy? Too light? No. JUST RIGHT! Some have had iffy comments about the neck finish (!?!) but what a smart idea, so right, a dream neck (for me anyway). Special thanks to mgr and guitar mgr for getting them to my store for me. I'll write another review in a year...
