• Great even for 7 strings

  This set of strings was released first for Schecter Guitars and were called Decimators, same gauges specially thought of for their 8 strings. I've tried them on 8 string guitars and they give a lot of punch in the end allowing if you want to tune down the guitar a whole step. Also this strings are great on 7 string guitars specially if you like to get the tuning down a step, actually its the ones i use with the tuning A-D-G-C-F-A-D and they don't feel like rubber bands like the regular ones, and I've gotta say I use them with a Floyd Rose, and even when you would think its extremely hard to set up, its not. Actually if you check out the gauges its like Dean Markley's Light Top Heavy Bottom. If you are a low tone guitar player and want stability and not feel rubber bands in your fingers this is the way to go.

  I'm using this set on both my Ibanez RGA8 & RG2228 and they're almost perfect. The .074 has a tapered end so you don't need to drill out your tuning peg to fit the string in. Overall they're good bright sounding strings. I was buying 3 GHS Boomer packs to make this bastardized set that was .070 - .010 but then I had a bunch of leftover strings each time. Personally, I like this set for its simplicity but I think I'm gonna buy some more packs just to get the .074 but also I'm gonna get the Ernie Ball 7 string 2620 set and use the .058, .048 and .038 instead of the .064, .054 & .042.

• Horrible Balance

  Wow, Ernie Ball completely failed on this one! Why Ernie Ball didn't just take their 7 string packs (9-52 and 10-56) and add a balanced 8th string is beyond me. The first 3 plain strings are alright, but still too heavy if you ask me considering these are going on extended scale instruments from 27-30". Then things just get out of hand. They put ridiculously large strings on the lower half. A .054 on the E string on an extended scale instrument!? That is what most manufacturers use for a normal low B string on normal scale lengths. Next, the .064 for the B is also quite heavy. Then they went full retard and put a .074 on the 8th string. That's actually a pretty good gauge for that string. But next to the E and B above it, its going to feel like a limp noodle. If you want a good balanced 8 string set, look into LaBella Crazy 8's, or just buy a 7 string set and buy the 8th string yourself.
