  • Great strings for 7!

As reviewed by Blake on 3/18/2015

I personally love these strings and have had no issues with breakage, but i don't try to break them like the previous reviewer. They have a great tone and are the perfect fit for the tunings that i use (Ab,F,Bb,Eb,F,Bb,Eb). The bottom end is tight and crisp, and the top 3 strings are still nice and light for bending and string skipping. The only downfall i would say is that they will discolor quickly if you use finger ease or get any guitar polish on them. Otherwise these are an A+ product.

  • Broken Strings

As reviewed by Shawn on 11/13/2014

I've purchased a total of 7 sets of the Cobalt Slinky's, 6 sets of 9's for my 3 6-string's, and this set for my dropped tunings down to A Standard. Out of the 7 sets of strings, I have had 9 broken strings during initial tuning after re-stringing, including the .042 from this set. Granted, I'm not the most gentle person when it comes to string treatment.... I shred Delrin picks in hours due to my heavy handed playing. Immediately after initial stringing, I stretch the strings by suspending the guitar by only one string (two strings for the unwound strings), but prior to these Cobalt's, I have never had a breakage problem. All 9 broke before I even reached the stretch stage of my stringing :( My preferred set for drop tuning is no longer stocked at my local GC, since I had to order them online anyway, & I happened to see this set before I ordered, I decided to give the Cobalt's another try (I like the tone of these strings under heavy distortion) hoping that the previous breakage I experienced was only due to the strings being brand new to market - I got the first 6 sets direct from Ernie Ball less than a month after they were released. None of the 9 broken strings broke at the string saddle or at the machine heads. 7 broke between the nut & machine head, one broke over the neck pickup, and one broke over the fretboard. Oh, and I still have one full set unused, and one partial set from the original 6 sets. Guess, it's back to old faithful GHS HeavyWeight Boomer's which have never broken on me. Only time I change them is when they're just to dirty to play anymore.
