The WildKat Ltd Electric Guitar is a wild guitar with a lot to catch the fancy of all kinds of players: chrome Vibratone tailpiece for vintage detail, flamed maple top for gorgeous looks, and 2 Alnico V P-90s for hot-rodded tone. Maple neck, rosewood fretboard, mahogany sides and back, and body and neck binding complete the WildKat Electric Guitar. Case sold separately.

Epiphone is a leader in archtop design and has been since the 1930's . An early pioneer in archtops even before they were electrified, Epiphone was never afraid to do something out of the ordinary. With no notable changes in archtop design by anybody in decades, Epiphone took the archtop and practically married it to a solid body guitar. The Wildkat now takes its place among their all-time great designs.

I was first attracted to this guitar by its cool, retro looks but was concerned about the actual quality. After all, it's one of those second rate, Chinese made Epiphones. You know, nothing but a cheap, flimsy Gibson wanna-be, right? Well, I'm here to tell you, that after doing some research on the Gibson Qingdao factory that produces nothing but Epiphones to Gibson QA specs and then actually handling this guitar at the store, I decided on the Antique Natural and bought it on the spot because It's absolutely gorgeous!

The fit and finish is second to none. The color of the maple top is a rich, honey blonde. The back is a light, almost orange mahogany. The binding tying them together is perfect in every way and the clear finish IS perfectly clear and flawless. The neck has a great feel. Again, the neck binding is perfect and there are no sharp fret edges. The rosewood fretboard has a consistent, dark, rich color and the D shape neck profile is very comfortable.

The hardware appears to be good quality as well. The licensed Bigsby has no casting flaws and the chrome is bright and smooth. It has a smooth, solid feel with no clicks or rattles. The Grover tuners turn nicely and hold tight. The pickup switch is crisp and the pots have a nice resisted feel to them.

I replaced the strings with Ernie Ball Super Slinky 9's, oiled the fret board and performed a quick setup, making very minor adjustments to the action and neck relief. I stretched the strings, tuned her up and found the intonation to be dead on!

Once plugged in, there is no hum and I experienced no annoying feedback whatsoever. The Epiphone "designed in USA" P90's sound great and are more than adequate, however if I considered any mod's it might be upgraded pup's but that's only because I'm a tinkerer by nature and honestly, I'm in no hurry.

All in all, this is a great guitar and if it had Gibson USA stamped into the headstock I would have paid twice as much and still thought I got a super deal. Bottom line is if you want a great looking, nice playing, affordable guitar, RUN OUT AND BUY A WILDKAT!

Pros: Gorgeous to look at, Sweet Tone, Bigsby Tremolo(licensed) Cons: Look too hard at the Trem & its out of tune, feedback when its overdriven. Be prepared to have to make some adjustments to it. I have owned two..the first arrived with a crack in the finish between the F hole and the P90..the second arrived with loose connections at the input jack. Epiphone needs to step up their quality control.

Comments about Epiphone Wildkat Semi-Hollowbody Electric Guitar with Bigsby:

This is the nicest guitar anyone could ask for. It sounds amazing and the red finish looks way better in person. The pictures dont show all the nice color fade streaks. You can also get the action just about as low as possible without any of that unwanted fret buzz

Comments about Epiphone Wildkat Semi-Hollowbody Electric Guitar with Bigsby:

Okay, people buy this because it looks cool, its a reality, then they complain about things.
The tuning, it should have come with a roller bridge, they go for $20, put one on, tuning problems go away.
The tremolo, its not for dive bombing, its for subtle sounds.
p90's , yeah, they are different, I dont use the same amp settings I do with my humbuckers

Knowing this, the neck is a little chunky, but easy to get used too, it sounds great, is fun to play, and is a lot of guitar for the money, I have no issue with using it for gigs and jams. If you have some plying experience, go for it, you wont regret it

Comments about Epiphone Wildkat Semi-Hollowbody Electric Guitar with Bigsby:

I was in Guitar Center shopping for some gifts for my bandmates. I had no intentions whatsoever of buying a new guitar.

Then she caught my eye. No BS, I had seen this guitar a few years ago in a dream I had. And there she was. Looking at me from across the room, begging me to come over and check her out. So I did.

To test drive her, I got hooked in to a Marshall twin. My wife was there with me and after I strummed the first few chords and walked a few scales, my wife's exact words were: "You should get that guitar." I replied with: "I am going to. Right now." The clerk told me they had a fresh one in the back. Still in the box. I said, "I'll take it". I didn't even know the price of the guitar at this point. I didn't care. I was getting that guitar no matter what the price was.

Later that night, I broke it out at rehearsal and played it for the first time. Cruella was crying all night long with warm rich tone and beautiful harmonics all the way up her neck. The controlled feedback is sensational. The sustain is perfect. The neck is comfortable and gives a lot of room for hammering wherever and whatever I want.

It is well built. High quality materials and craftsmanship. The tremolo is tight and easy to control. The knobs and switches are all laid out in the optimal positions making it easy to adjust your settings on the fly. Even the output is in the exact perfect spot. This guitar is flawless.

I'm taking her back in to Guitar Center today to get her set up. (I believe this should always be done with new guitars anyway) From now on, she'll be my main squeeze.

Comments about Epiphone Wildkat Semi-Hollowbody Electric Guitar with Bigsby:

I have played for twenty plus years and my main guitar is a Gibson ES-135 with 57 classics and a trapeze tailpiece.
I purchased this guitar for the combination of P-90 pickups and Bigsby tailpiece. It does not disdappoint.
It plays and feels just as good as my Gibson for a fraction of the price. The only con is it will feedback with high gain settings but you don't buy this guitar to play metal so it doesn't really matter. I can drive it pretty hard and loud for some great rock tones (think Thin Lizzy or The Who) and it holds its own no problem. I tweaked the setup a little a polished up the frets and it plays like a dream. For the price you can't beat Epiphone guitars, I feel like they've really come into their own again. My next purchase will be an Epiphone Les Paul Standard.

I loved it from the moment I got it. After the new wore off I still love it! The neck gets wider as you go down which I wasn't expecting. However, that is the only problem with this guitar for me. Stays in tune really well with the Bigsby (my biggest concern). Tuning it up and down is easy.

I bought this guitar a few months ago and waited to review it until the new wore off. This is a fantastic guitar. The build quality is as good as any american guitar I own and the sound it super. The neck feels great, the electronics have given me no problem and the guitar is really stable and stays in tune well. This is one of my go to guitars. It flat out rocks.

Comments about Epiphone Wildkat Semi-Hollowbody Electric Guitar with Bigsby:

I always wanted a hollow body, and here was this Epiphone looking irresistible. It was on sale and it looked fantastic, so I jumped.

It is a very fun guitar. It does have a great feel and tone over all, and it really is visually stunning.

Mine had horrendous fret buzz on the low E string in a few places, however. One fret in particular was amazing, not only did it buzz like crazy what tone there was almost instantly died. Just a dud. I hadn't even noticed in the store, but after I got it home and started getting into it this was really disappointing.

You may have to work on this guitar to get the frets behaving, so have that in mind. I decided to return it.
