Overview

The Wildkat Red Royale Hollowbody Electric Guitar has the same traditional f-hole archtop design as the popular Epiphone Wildkat series, but with the look of a customized finish. It's larger in size than a Les Paul, yet smaller than a DOT 335. The mahogany body has a laminated maple top with a classy red finish adorned with chrome hardware, while the hard maple neck is topped with a rosewood fretboard. The Bigsby trem adds to its classy appearance and the two alnico P-90 single-coil pickups crank out monster tone. Case sold separately.

Let Down

By MICHAEL

Comments about Epiphone Wildkat Red Royale Hollowbody Electric Guitar:

Great looks and sound, but disappointing build quality. Bigsby is cool, but doesn't sit well with static Tune-O-Matic bridge. So I installed a roller saddle bridge for $60. Keeps it from eating strings. While being worked on, guitar tech noticed a loose bridge pickup. Problem was a crack from screw hole to edge of pickup recess. A wooden dowel was glued in and screw reset, but this shouldn't have made it past QC. Now, less than 2 months old, the toggle switch is loose and I will have to tighten it from the back access plate. Overall, a beauty, but the quality is just not there. Now that it is set up, though, and Guitar Center did refund the $40 cost of the pickup repair, I guess I am stuck with it. On the plus side, the P-90s sound great, but I hear they shriek with feedback at higher volumes. I haven't gone there yet (I live in a condo), but I hope what I've heard is wrong. Wish I had spent a few hundred more for a Gretch Electromatic.

Comments about Epiphone Wildkat Red Royale Hollowbody Electric Guitar:

This was my first electric guitar and when I got it I had no idea what I was buying. I struck bloody Lucky!! This guitar is absolutely awesome! I've fallen in love with this guitar and I used it to reach so many milestones in my guitar playing. It is great for jazz or rock and easy to play once set up. The only cons are that the neck is just a tiny bit thickish and it is pretty heavy, other than that, it bloody rocks!
