I got this guitar about a month ago and was just blown away by the quality of it. People think that epiphones are bad when they are great guitars. After like a month i was so convinced that thos guitar was worth upgrading that i sold my fender strat and bought some Dimarzio pickups cause the ones that come with it are a bit muddy (if you're a beginner you wont even notice so don't change them) so great guitar for a begginer or for an experienced player. Good guitar to upgrade.... so worth it! What are you waiting... Buy it!

The epiphone vintage G-400 guitar is okay - not that bad, not that great. This guitar has a very lightweight body, and a very heavy neck which makes playing it very, very awkward. You have to push your right forearm on the back of the guitar so that the neckboard will be ballanced. This makes it harder to strum correctly. When you stand up, the neck tips over to the ground, and in some cases could damage the guitar. The sustain isn't great either. On the high notes, they'll probably last about 1-2 seconds. Also, it untunes very easily. I would just buy a guitar with a heavier body, and with a longer sustain. I remember when I got this guitar about 5 months ago, the reviews were great, but when i got the guitar, I became doubtful. Just save up and get the les paul. -- btw, it isn't better than the Gibson.

Unbelievable

By jpgrant91

Comments about Epiphone Vintage G-400 Electric Guitar:

For the price, this is among the top guitars on the market. This guitar both looks and feels like it's more expensive counterpart. It's lightweight and comfortable enough to play sitting for long periods of time. The tone sounds great and it stays in tune for a decent length of time. I reccomend this guitar to people who are looking for a decent guitar but are on a budget.

Comments about Epiphone Vintage G-400 Electric Guitar:

I was very impressed with the quality of this guitar. In my opinion it sounds as good as a Gibson. You can't beat the price. Clean sound, trapiziod inlays, decent pickups, set neck, and it was perfect right out of the box.

Great Guitar for the price

By JERRY R. 708

from Apple Valley, CA

Comments about Epiphone Vintage G-400 Electric Guitar:

Great guitar for the price. I have owned this guitar for a year and very satisfied. Stays tuned, fast fretboard, great finish, pick ups are decent for beginners, mine has no fretbuzz that people seem to mention (I am one of the lucky ones where quality control was enforced here). Only (minor) issues with this guitar would be 1)The loose jack. I press it into the guitar before playing to make sure it isn't loose. 2)Neck heavy. I use a guitar strap with a rubber grip at the shoulder to correct that. I would re-purchase this guitar if I had to do it all over again. 5/5

Unbelievable

By LooseyGoosey

from Burke, VA

Comments about Epiphone Vintage G-400 Electric Guitar:

I don't believe it, the 1899.99 Gibson SG '61 reissue has been remade by Epiphone and it only costs $300! The thing is that it is about $1600 less Than the Gibson and it is if not better, then just as good as it! The first time I went to Guitar center, I tried out a $1551 Ebony Gibson SG and then I tried out this one and it was so much better in the sound and the appeal of it! It sounded better than Slayer when I played Raining Blood and it was like a recording Hells Bells when I played AC/DC. I highly recommend this guitar to anyone who wants a cheap SG. I can't wait to get mine.

Truly a Work of Art

By Jacob Brown

from Des Plaines, IL

Comments about Epiphone Vintage G-400 Electric Guitar:

Ive played gutiar for 5 years and had been stuck with an acoustic. Wanting an electric i did research and was a guitar center playing different models every weekend. I always loved the look and sound of an sg so only thing left to do as pick one. I was considering the gibson but after 2 hrs playing the gibson and epiphone model trying to decide I picked the epiphone (red of course). It sounds exactly the same as a gibson, none of the buzz or other problems other people talked about. I decided that yea, gibson is top of the line, but epiphone has been improving in quality almost to the point where you are just paying a boatload of extra cash for the name on the top of the gutiar. To me having the classic "gibson" on the top wasn't worth the extra money. Also considering epiphone is owned by gibson and produces authorized clones of expensive gibson guitars for a fraction of the cost, I figured that I would get this and have my next guitar as a gibson, no way, I have fallen in love with epiphone, there is no need to pay thousands when you can get the same thing for hundreds. This xmas i'm getting myself a les paul, but forget gibson, I am going epiphone.

new guitar

Comments about Epiphone Vintage G-400 Electric Guitar:

If i had to pick one word for this guitar is a blessing in diguise. i've been playing guitar for almost 5 years and i picked up this baby at first sceptical because of what ive heard about sg's. All ihave to say is unless you've played the guitar and can sympathize hop it is. then pck it up and find out if its right for you. okay but on the plus sides the guitar has great playability right out of the box, i seriously played 7 hours straight after i got it. thi finish is very nice and smooth it just feels good in the hands, tones good, only thing i dont like is its kinda neck heavy. otherwise its a fantastic guitar

Great Guitar for Intermidiate

By Rob777

from Orlando, FL

Comments about Epiphone Vintage G-400 Electric Guitar:

I?ve been around with this guitar for almost 3 years now. The g 400 is perfect for someone who is playing guitar at least 3 years. The quality of the sound is amazing for its price. In my opinion, its price should be a little higher. This g 400 has also a very nice design, perfect if its your first guitar. Also this guitar is an epiphone, made and created by GIBSON, practice with this guitar until when you become an experienced guitar player, then you can buy a Gibson. In general, very good job epiphone!

Best Electric Guitar for the Price!

By Liborio Rampolla

from Las Vegas Nevada

Comments about Epiphone Vintage G-400 Electric Guitar:

After being an avid Guitar player for 26 years and 12 Guitars later, I walked into Guitar center (Las Vegas) 6 months ago and they had a Epi. G-400 Goldtop. I loved the finish so I gave it a 10 minute whirl, and fell in love with it! I only wish this Guitar was avalible 26 years ago, when I was learning. I have a 1990 mint condition $2000 Gibson Les Paul Standard that I have only played twice since I bought this SG.

Awesome Build...More than a Bargain!

By Chandler

from Charlotte, N.C.

Comments about Epiphone Vintage G-400 Electric Guitar:

This guitar is far more than I expected to get for its price. The build of this guitar is Fantastic. I noticed from the back near the strap button closest to the controls that my SG has a 2 piece body under the veneers. I was stunned! This kind of quality is only supposed to come on an Elitist. This guitar has been a pleasant surprise. After a small fret file/polish was done the neck became pure silk, and on par with some of the best I've ever had my hands on. No doubt about it. Epiphone Qingdao (China) has really stepped up the notch on quality. I am simply a very satisfied customer.

May Have Been Dropped?!

By notafan

from Houston, TX

Comments about Epiphone Vintage G-400 Electric Guitar:

Bought this guitar in January. Sounded fine in the store. Took it home and it sounded fine there. When I pulled it out later and played it acoustically, all the problems were noticed instantly. No matter what you do, there's no way to fix the action to where half the strings don't buzz (at least not comfortably). The guitar literally bends every time you move up or down the neck cause it's so heavy. And when I talked to the guy at the store he said "It may have been dropped". Good to know guitar center stills puts out possibly damaged equipment.

g-400 vintage faded

By el wadeo

from tallahassee, FL

Comments about Epiphone Vintage G-400 Electric Guitar:

i purchased this guitar a while ago and was exited, i am a huge fan of sg's. but this one was terribly built. there were rattles all over it, one of the rattles was even in the bridge pickup. which probably explains the terrible tone quality, also bad action and fret buzz. i traded in and traded up for an epi explorer (which is much better). stay far away from this guitar!!!!!!!!!!!!

A Simply Stunning Guitar

By Jared Serrano

from Santa Rosa NM

Comments about Epiphone Vintage G-400 Electric Guitar:

This Epiphone G-400 is right on par with Gibson, if not better. Its build, its hardware, its electronics, all great! You cant beat this value! Its worn cherry finish is great and feels good to the tough. Its solid with a rock hard set neck and an added bonus with Grover tuners. The chrome humbuckers look great and sound better, especially on an overdrive pedal. The cleans are clean and the dirty can really get down and dirty. If Gibsons are not feasible for you and your budget, GET THE SG G-400!!!

GREAT VALUE

By ice

from delavan illinois

Comments about Epiphone Vintage G-400 Electric Guitar:

I have had this guitar for a year. It is one of 9 that i own, including an Epi Les Paul, and Dot, 2 Strats, A Peavey, and an Ibanez. This is the most versatile guitar I have ever owned, tonally, and playability wise. Clean to totally distorted this guitar covers it all. Way better upper neck access than a Les Paul. The only downside i have seen is the thing is somewhat unbalanced (neck heavy) but this is a minute issue for what the guitar is overall. A superb value.

Absolutely Astonishing!

By Jared Serrano

from New Mexico

Comments about Epiphone Vintage G-400 Electric Guitar:

This guitar is extremely great quality! Besides the worn finish and not having coil tapping, its like the G-400 pro! It plays so smooth and looks fantastic! The neck is a bit heavy and has a tendency to dive bomb, but a good thick leather strap can cure that. Its really solid and feels great to play. The sound is like something a thousand dollars more.
