This guitar is great. I have a right handed version. The pickups produce a great sound and it goes well with my marshall amp. The only problem is that its hard to do fretboard tapping. This guitar sounds way better than a regular Epiphone Special or G-310.

This guitar is crap. Tony Iommi should be ashamed for letting them put his name on it. This Korean made junk will never measure up to a true Gibson SG. All the hardware is cheap, soft "pot meatal" and wears out faster than the strings, the pickups are NOT Gibson USA, but rather just more MADE IN KOREA junk, the neck ways a ton and is HUGE, the finish is an inch thick of platicky-polyurethane, the binding is cheaply done, the headstock barely angles back and the strings go out of tune,. Don't waste your money, go buy a real, American made Gibson and you'll have a great guitar that will last you forever. This thing didn't last more that 2 months.

Not enough low end....

By Phil Blacklaw

from Illinois

Comments about Epiphone Tony Iommi Signature G-400 Electric Guitar:

I am flabbergasted at the dearth of low end this guitar has...I mean come on, it's Sabbath! Some caveats though: I played it used through a Blackstar 100 watt head on a halfstack. Perhaps a slightly trebly amp..I'm not very familiar with them...but my 8 string sounded excellent through it. Granted, it may have been a letdown because I've been looking for a store that has this SG for years and years, so my expectations may have been too high.

Keep in mind that Tony Iommi used ultra light strings, 8s I believe (still does) and a treble booster rather than a distortion pedal in classic Sabbath, so that could contribute to the lack of bass. Also, Sabbath is as crushingly heavy as it is because of Geezer and Bill: it isn't all Tony.

The one I played indeed had light strings, possibly 9s, and they were very old, perhaps even rusted, so I'm sure that's a factor. At length, I downtuned it to C# Standard to play the lower Sabbath songs. Of course, the low tuning will not hold up as well as heavier gague string, but I had the bass of the amp turned all the way up (on a halfstack), and it was still too trebly.

The tone is rich, thick, and biting otherwise, if a little too bright. It does have better pickups than other Epiphone SGs, and plays very well overall. It is a lot of fun to play this guitar. My criticisms regardless, when I did the half-step trills playing "Black Sabbath"...I was pretty much in heaven. "Sabbath Bloody Sabbath" and "A National Acrobat" sounded pretty awesome too, but those songs deviate from Tony's typical sound.

I bought it.. sold it

By raymond harmacinski

Comments about Epiphone Tony Iommi Signature G-400 Electric Guitar:

.. pickups are too harsh .neck is thinner than a strat or schecter. weight of a conventional sg.. sorta heavy... but man it does look awesome sitting in the case.. the looks alone will draw you in. the sound however will eventually drive you out... this is definitely a heavy metal guitar...
Not the best bang for the buck.. and you can get a standard g-400 that is very good passive pu guitar. For about the same scratch pick up a schecter c-1 hellraiser... out of the box is a far better investment.... I sold my Tony-I for a big loss and it was 7 mo old. neck pickup is actually too hot to be usable at volume. I own a strat and I prefer the neck of the strat over the tony-i.. the c-1 has a simular feel to a strats neck.. but more frets.. anything past 21 is actually overkill any way...
the constuction is top notch.. hi-gloss black as expected.. impossible to keep clean. bridge pickup is hotter than a normal g-400.. neck pickup is so hot its almost unusable.. better just use a dog whistle
Initially thought this would be a good investment.. I knew I was buying an epiphone.. own an epi les paul that i actually love. So its like buying a brand new car loose 20 % walking out the door with it.

Best gutiar that broke on me.

By Gitrhero

Comments about Epiphone Tony Iommi Signature G-400 Electric Guitar:

I absolutely loved this guitar. The pickups, the body, the neck shape, everything.. it became my favorite instantly, over an ESP KH-2, an Ibanez JS-1000, and my Ibanez RG-420. The only problem, is that the headstock fell off over night, leaving me with dangling spaghetti over the beautiful body after owning it for less than 3 months. I miss it.

Comments about Epiphone Tony Iommi Signature G-400 Electric Guitar:

This is the one guitar that is worth its weight in gold! The pickups scream! the neck is perfect and the crosses rule!!!!!! I put skinny top, heavy bottom Ernie Ball's on it and they make this guitar rule! The hardware is supreme and the grover tuners are perfect too! I love this guitar!!! It my main ax for all my gigs and I get nothing but compliments from other musicians as well!

Does the job extremely well

By AxeMan99

Comments about Epiphone Tony Iommi Signature G-400 Electric Guitar:

I own a Gibson Les Paul Standard, a Gibson SG Classic, a 1984 Gibson SG Standard, and a Fender American Deluxe Stratocaster, and I gotta tell you this Signature G400 fits right in there with all of them. I can't say it's better by any means, but for the price it's a great contender. I bought it for my bands Sabbath Set, mostly for the Evil looks because the Gibson SGs I have handle Sabbath very well and also anything else for that matter, but the truth is this G400 really gives me the preferred heavy sound out of all of them. It played great out of the box, but much better after a set-up.

Tony

Comments about Epiphone Tony Iommi Signature G-400 Electric Guitar:

I've had this guitar for about a year and a half. I bought it because it was the only SG I could find that had the features I wanted. It took me a month or so to get the action dialed in but once I got it set up this is one of the best playing guitars I have owned. The pickups sound great with distortion, but clean they sound mellow like jazz pickups (I usually play single coils so that sound is of little use to me). I think it is worth the price for sure. I have since customised mine, but I was looking for a more classic rock look and tone rather than metal.

Wow is all I have to say

Comments about Epiphone Tony Iommi Signature G-400 Electric Guitar:

I've had this guitar for 4 years now. I absolutely love it. I play it mostly in C or B, with some pretty heavy gauge strings. It handles ANYTHING. The tone knobs work great when working with different tones. With the neck pickup, you really can bend anywhere without getting a ton of feedback. And on the treble setting you can pull out any harmonic and this thing will sustain it for as long as you can pull. The ONLY problem I've had with it, is that the fret inlays cut off at the 12th fret. I play a lot of progressive/tech metal and when doing tapping at the end of arpeggios, things can get a bit tricky but after a while you'll get used to it. This is hands down one of the best guitars you can get with your money. Buy it.

Epiphone G-400 Tony Iommi Sig

Comments about Epiphone Tony Iommi Signature G-400 Electric Guitar:

This guitar is one for the making, It has great sound if your looking to play heavy rock, like sabbath and metallica. The neck is probably the best because it plays like butter, but if your not used to it, the strings might be a little close at first. The body has a great finish and is stylin lol. The pickups create a deep, heavy sound, and has really good neck quality. I run mine through a chourus, distortion, and eq and it sounds AMAZING. I highly recommend this guitar because it one of the best i have ever played.
