If you own a Thunderbird, when it comes to hardshell cases, your choices are pretty limited. This case is made very well, it's rugged enough for a working musician, it looks really nice also! The only thing is if you own a Epiphone Thunderbird PRO like I do, you will need to do some minor modifications. Just pull back the lining and cut out the padding so that the neck fits in snug. Then just glue the lining back and it fits like a glove!! It only take about 20 mins. to do it right. I'm very happy with this case!!

I bought this for my son for Christmas. I understand that it is the only case a Thunderbird will fit it and therefore GC would not not have it in stock. Thunderbird's are not that popular, so we had to order it. The salesman was great and he took good care of us. Unfortunately when it arrived, it looked like a drunk applied the faux stitching that hides the seam. I debated whether to send it back because I worry that down the road the vinyl will begin to peal, but sending it back is a giant pain, so I am going to keep it. I had a similar situation with a tweed case I bought for my Tele. When it arrived, it had a large dirty smudge on it. My advise is to only buy in stock cases at GC so you can inspect them. The quality control from these imports is pretty weak.

Guitar Center Customer Beware

By Randy

Pros

  • Easy To Use
  • Functional
  • Good Quality

Cons

Comments about Epiphone Thunderbird Hardshell Case:

The case is great, seems to be of good quality, and fits my bass perfectly. My only complaint is that it does not look like the case that I purchased. The photos of this case on Guitar Center's website are not photos of the case you will receive if you buy this item. Their photos show a rectangular case with four metal feet (for lack of a better term) on the bottom, the case that arrived is a weird trapezoid shape and only has three of these little metal "feet" on the bottom. Overall, I give Epiphone 5 stars for making a nice case, and Guitar Center "0" stars for not updating their website. What I received in the mail is not what is pictured on their website, that is kind of lame, disappointing, and bad business. But ultimately the differences are cosmetic and the case is very functional.

The case is great only complaint is on one part for about 10 inches the lid doesn't quite close over the case, but it does still shut and will protect your bass

            GREAT Case!

Comments about Epiphone Thunderbird Hardshell Case:

Don't waste your time trying to get a used or generic case if you have a T-Bird that needs a home. The headstock is pretty long and with her body shape, those curves need the case that was made to hold them :) The compartment has plenty of room for any extra stuff too. I absolutely love my new case - great case with a great price!

            Epi Thunderbird case

            By David Pfeffer

            from Richmond, TX

Comments about Epiphone Thunderbird Hardshell Case:

For a hundred bucks not bad. The case lid is a little flimsy though when open. The skin doesn't appear to be very tough. Mine actually came with a small tear on the lid just above the bottom hinge. The latches don't close real tight and could easily be pulled open accidently. At least there are three latches. The interior is pretty cool. Huge storage and molded to fit the thunderbird body nice and snug. I wouldn't through a bunch of gear on top of this case as it would not take the beating very well and would give under the weight of all the gear stacked on top. Place it on top of the pile for sure and keep an eye on the latches when handling. Otherwise it will provide good protection for your bass guitar.

You wont be sorry Very nice worth every penny

            By Roy L.

            from Middle Tennessee

Comments about Epiphone Thunderbird Hardshell Case:

I bought the epiphone thunderbird and they did not have the case in stock so i had to order it. I tried to find other cases but could not find anything else. So i though i would at least try it out. I MUST SAY very nice for the price. It does have a glue smell to it but all u need to do is let it air out for a while. in fact the other cases i had over the years had the same king of smell to them it is because of the glue they use to attach the inner linning to the case. nothing to worry about. it will dissapate over time or just let it set open for a while. Any way here goes my review, This case fits my bass perfectly. lots of room for books, strings, tuners strap and i have a (big leather strap) fits in nicely. it is well made, and is very nice looking. For the price you cant go wrong. The case is ballanced real well when loaded. I also like the purple plush linning in it it is so cool looking when my guitar is in it. The only problem is they did not have it in stock when i bought the guitar. and in the 3 weeks i had my guitar i put a little ding on if from not having the case. Guitar center had it on back order and i vowed not to take it anywere untill i got a case. Go for it you wont be sorry..

            Thunderbird Bass Case (Epiphone)

            By Scott

            from Fort Worth, TX

Comments about Epiphone Thunderbird Hardshell Case:

If yoiu have a T-bird Bass and you want something solid that hugs your axe, this is about the only game in town. Fortunately this is a quality case, has perfect countours for the bass, and it looks like the 5-string would also fit. The pro-version with neck-through might need a cushion beneath it to make it sit snugly in the neck rest, but that shouldn't be a problem. At this price you get a quality case, good locks and hinges, and a cushion contoured and covered in standard plush. Nicely done. The alternative would be to try and modify a coffin or other universal, more work for the same price.
