This guitar is NOT "The Exact same thing... but with a WHAMMY this time!!". It is a completley different guitar than the Special II. It has a solid Mahogany Body instead of Basswood, which calls for more sustain, 2 A Humbuckers, and a Pushkill, which is basically a Killswitch built into a volume or tone knob. Very Dynamic guitar.

Quick. Pros: Sounds great. The dual humbuckers give you more of an edge. I've played all kinds of music on this thing, sweet high notes to roaring low notes, and it handles them well. To me, the fretboard is smooth, and with good strings it's easy to play what you want. Cons: There are some issues. At the price, the guitar is definitely worth it, but keep these in mind. Low sustain. Compared to my old cheap Fender/Squire Bullet, the sustain is actually less. Tuning. The stock tuners on this are not good. Mixed with the tremelo, the guitar tuning will be annoying. Period. You'll be messing with tuning the thing a lot more than you would if you bought a $499+ guitar. However, at the price, you can buy new tuners, and just deal with it. Conclusion: At the price, you can't not buy the guitar. It's an Epiphone, with dual humbuckers. It has minor issues, as most cheaper guitars do, but the smoothness and sound make the guitar legendary for beginner/intermediate guitarists.

Would make a great first guitar

Comments about Epiphone Special-II GT Electric Guitar:

Nice guitar. Same size as a les Paul. Not too much sustain which I'm sure is due to its light weight body construction.
The cut off knob is a nice feature when using heavy distortion. It'll eliminate the need to switch off your pedal when there are pauses to avoid annoying feedback. Nice looking guitar but the flat black matte finish would really pop with a few coats of lacquer but I guess that's one of the steps, or lack of, that keep the cost sooo low. I'm pretty sure a few pounds of lacquer would help with the sustain. Maybe if I get bored I'll give it a try and post a new review.

Comments about Epiphone Special-II GT Electric Guitar:

The les paul gt is a solid player, it sounds good for the price. Also the acoustic sound it produces is quite good, however, my frets are kind of worn out now, so it doesn't sound too good anymore. (I am not going to talk about the pros anymore, because there are plenty of reviews that focus on those). Now for the bad. The body of the guitar is incredibly flat and blocky. There is no tapering, or smoothing around the edges of the guitar. Because of this, when you are playing, the edge of the guitar is constantly jabbing your rib with its sharp edge. It also shows how poor the craftsmanship is on the guitar. I'd say that 99% of the guitar was made and assembled by robots. the guitar is also quite heavy adding to the discomfort. If your going to buy this guitar just be aware that the body is completely 2 dimensional with no concave or anything, also know that the guitar is rather heavy.

Definitely recommended for beginners. I use it for learning and practicing but I bet it would sound great on a live you.

Comments about Epiphone Special-II GT Electric Guitar:

When I had barely turned 16, I had decided I wanted to get into guitar (late start, I know), and I looked everywhere for a guitar that I would be able to use for the genre of music I liked (which would be heavy music in drop D). This guitar stood out to me because of its all black finish and comfortable feel. After feeling a few other guitars and the wallet in my pocket, I decided this would be the one I could get. I was instantly surprised of the quality that this guitar had, I had other friends who bought cheap guitars and they sounded poor. Having a quality guitar is definitely something that can keep someone inspired, and this guitar does the job. I ran this guitar through a Line 6 Spider IV 15 Watt, and althought it is a lower-end model amp, it sounded great. I've had this guitar for a year now and the neck pickup has gone out, but it does not concern me much because I only really use the bridge pickup. Since purchase of this guitar, I've also gotten an Ibanez RG350DX with a blocked bridge and custom pickups (a Seymour Duncan SH-13 for the bridge), and I must say that the Epiphone definitely competes with my Ibanez. The body is comfortable and overall it is a good feeling guitar that would make a beginner feel like they're in complete control.

Comments about Epiphone Special-II GT Electric Guitar:

I got the Special 2 GT as a beginner guitar two years ago and is still a great guitar for someone of that skill level. When i first got it, things like the killswitch and tremolo looked like really great and useful attachments to the guitar. But really the killswitch and tremolo feel like last minute additions to what should have just been a black on black special 2. The tremolo is quite bad and virtually useless considering your guitar is taken out of tune instantly. But its a very playable guitar and for those that like black, otherwise i recommend saving an extra 30 dollars and just getting the les paul special 2.

Comments about Epiphone Special-II GT Electric Guitar:

I wanted to learn how to play. I've had lots of guitars but never stuck with it. Then I bought this guitar and it had great playing action, the style was nice, brings fun to playing. I definitely recommend it to beginners. I learned a lot. But when I got it, the tone knob and a couple other things were loose. The finish doesn't last long and it doesn't stay in tune very well. All in all, I don't regret buying it.

    A Thing of Beauty

Comments about Epiphone Special-II GT Electric Guitar:

I've been playing my ESP MH-50 for about 3 years now. It was time for my second guitar. These economic times forced me to go below $200. I researched many options and just kept coming back to thie Epiphone GT. I bought it and am just in love with it. The clean tone on it is amazing and the pickups are hot!!!! Any effect sounds great!!! I jam to Alice in Chains all the way to clasical. Sounds great with all effects. I use DigiTech custom distortion and it rips the hell out of it!!! Buy it!!!
