This guitar is NOT "The Exact same thing... but with a WHAMMY this time!!". It is a completley different guitar than the Special II. It has a solid Mahogany Body instead of Basswood, which calls for more sustain, 2 A Humbuckers, and a Pushkill, which is basically a Killswitch built into a volume or tone knob. Very Dynamic guitar.

Quick. Pros: Sounds great. The dual humbuckers give you more of an edge. I've played all kinds of music on this thing, sweet high notes to roaring low notes, and it handles them well. To me, the fretboard is smooth, and with good strings it's easy to play what you want. Cons: There are some issues. At the price, the guitar is definitely worth it, but keep these in mind. Low sustain. Compared to my old cheap Fender/Squire Bullet, the sustain is actually less. Tuning. The stock tuners on this are not good. Mixed with the tremelo, the guitar tuning will be annoying. Period. You'll be messing with tuning the thing a lot more than you would if you bought a $499+ guitar. However, at the price, you can buy new tuners, and just deal with it. Conclusion: At the price, you can't not buy the guitar. It's an Epiphone, with dual humbuckers. It has minor issues, as most cheaper guitars do, but the smoothness and sound make the guitar legendary for beginner/intermediate guitarists.

Darn, too late

By Watsit Tooya

Comments about Epiphone Special-II GT Electric Guitar:

I just got the Epiphone Les Paul Special 2 performance pack thing, and its great!! But now I browse guitar center and learn that, not too long after I bought my guitar, THIS came out. The same exact guitar... but with a WHAMMY this time. Ugh, frustrating to a high degree. But I love my guitar, and with the whammy, I'm guessing this will be 10x better. So those of you, unlike me, who have not bought the earlier model, buy this one, it'll be awesome. No I don't own this guitar, but I gave it 5 stars as a prediction. No criticizing me for posting this review! Just trying to help people with my predilection.

Great Guitar

By Steve

from MIami, FLorida

Comments about Epiphone Special-II GT Electric Guitar:

If you are a fan of Les Pauls like me, but play heavier music than a Les Paul was built for, this is you guitar. It is in no way the same thing as the Special II, it has similar features such as pickups, but a heavier sound because of the bridge, and not to mention the Master Tone becomes a kill switch! If you have been looking for an affordable guitar with a solid heavy tone, you just found it.

Epiphone Special-II GT Electric Guitar

By Anthony Grijalva

Comments about Epiphone Special-II GT Electric Guitar:

I just bought thing Guitar like 30 min.s ago and its just, great. I kind of wanted a more expensive guitar but i saw this one and played it a little then i bought, it takes some geting used to but then it only goes uphill from there. Before this guitar i bought an SG G-400 which is magnificent but gets scratched easily. and i wanted a guitar with a wammy bar so this was the guitar.

So Awsome

By Joe

from Chicago, Il

Comments about Epiphone Special-II GT Electric Guitar:

I'm absolutly in love with this guitar. Such an amazing thing to have and extremely cheap as well. When I fist picked it up I knew I was going to buy it and sure enough I did. It sounds great with pretty much any amp and also sounds great with pedals. When I first got mine the jack was a little messed up, but that was easily fixed by unscrewing it then turning it once. I recommend this to anyone who plays a guitar.

Amazing Guitar!!!!

By austin

Comments about Epiphone Special-II GT Electric Guitar:

This guitar is amazing!. I got this guitar for Christmas along with a Line 6 15W, and that is an amazing combo. This guitar's playability is great, the vintage style tremolo and the kill switch are awesome additions the the Special II platform. Great neck profile, the same as most of the Gibson SG's. I love this guitar!

Not bad for the price...

By InZane4all

from Los Angeles, CA

Comments about Epiphone Special-II GT Electric Guitar:

I bought this guitar recently and it isn't too bad. I wanted a second guitar, mostly for Rhythm style playing, and it gets the job done. Guitar definitely not good for palm mutes, pinched harmonics or shredding, but that's not the reason why I bought it. Killswitch is a nice feature. You could probably get some good heavy metal sounds if you get some good strings (although I do have some Blue Steals on mine). If your just starting or are looking for a good Rhythm guitar, then this is definitely a good choice.

good guitar

By Nathan

from tracy ca

Comments about Epiphone Special-II GT Electric Guitar:

this is a great guitar for beginners but if you already have plaayed guitars for a while i would spend a bit more money because of sound. the strings that come with it are pretty easy to bend and bar chord. the fretboard is just as good but the pickups kinda suck but thats easy to replace. Also the pushkill is kinda bad because it messes withe the pickups in a bad way, lastly the whammy bar is very sensitive so dont bend it out far or youll break the bridge.

I was going to buy the Epiphone Explorer gt but when the employee went to grab the explorer out of the back he accidentally grabed this one. We got the package opened and we noticed it was the wrong guitar.I decided to keep it. I have had it for about 4 days and so far it is a great guitar.

Comments about Epiphone Special-II GT Electric Guitar:

well iv seen in youtube that this guitar does not have a lot of review videos but the videos that it does have for reviews are great. This guitar is really good for the price i recommend it for a begginer that wants a whammy bar and a kill switch. This guitar has everything you need and it has the coolest effects. Epiphone is one of the best guitar brand. I am like in love with this guitar because it so cool!!!!!!!!!!!! 5 stars if you check it does not even have that many bad reviews here in guitar center.

A Thing of Beauty

By Erik Carrera

from Fairfax, VA

Comments about Epiphone Special-II GT Electric Guitar:

I've been playing my ESP MH-50 for about 3 years now. It was time for my second guitar. These economic times forced me to go below $200. I researched many options and just kept coming back to thie Epiphone GT. I bought it and am just in love with it. The clean tone on it is amazing and the pickups are hot!!!! Any effect sounds great!!! I jam to Alice in Chains all the way to clasical. Sounds great with all effects. I use DigiTech custom distortion and it rips the hell out of it!!! Buy it!!!

Are you kiding me?!?

By I. M. Dissapointed

from Sand Diego, CA

Comments about Epiphone Special-II GT Electric Guitar:

Well i was in gc the other day and i saw this guitar and kinda laughed to myself but im not one to judge so i tried it out... i was even more dissapointed. i mean if you are looking for something that is cheap and doesnt sound very good or play very well then this is good i supose. and when you really think about it, how can you expect a guitar that costs sooooooo little to be any good? for the price, i believe it is average. if you have never really played an electric guitar and want to try to learn this may be okay because it is cheap but you may think that its yourself that sounds bad but its most likely the guitar so dont get self concious. save up and buy a REAL guitar, not a few pieces of wood with some nails on the neck and magnets in the middle with a metal stick hangin off the bridge. epiphone isnt a bad brand, i own an epihone sg and it plays great and sounds decent for what i paid for it and well you cant expect much more than that, but i thought epiphone could at least have some self respect...

great guitar... low sustain

By Jacob Ulery

from Gaylord, MI

Comments about Epiphone Special-II GT Electric Guitar:

This guitar is excellent, it has great low end while maintaining a good high end. There's just two problems, this guitar has a low sustain and it goes out of tune when you use the whammy too much. When you use the whammy you can even hear the guitar going out of tune making little clicks every now and then witch ruins the sustain of the whammied note.

5 stars for a just begginer

By jonh

from arkansas

Comments about Epiphone Special-II GT Electric Guitar:

do not buy this as a starter guitar. you can get so much more for your money. this is a les paul but without many of the classic les paul signs, for instance the placement of pickup switch, the body itself is not carved wich is good for beginers but again it is not great for begginers. floyd roses on a les paul IMOP that is a no no. why get this. my friend has this but he doesnt really play guitar he basically just plays around like some guitarists do on a piano. they have no idea what it is but they think it sounds cool. but you could get a squier instead. they make them pretty good now. or a yamaha pacifica. that has a humbucker. this guitar is ok but i would only and only reccomend it to some1 who started guitar and has had lessons
