This was my first guitar and man am i happy about that.i would never be the lead guitar in my band without this guitar. If you put boost on,gain at 2,treble 8,middle5,and bass at 7 it sounds awesome! The amp is only 10 watts though so if you buy it get at least a 15 at the least. The input jack comes loose after a while but is easy to fix.aside from my bille joe les paul this is my main axe.

I was given this package last christmas, and have loved playing guitar ever since. I have, however, had a lot of problems with this package. To start off with, the guitar is alright. It sounds pretty good, and is overall a pretty good guitar. The amp is awful, has terrible... and I mean TERRIBLE distortion that sounds all gritty and disgusting. The strap is also awful, and is even painful to wear. My strap broke after about a month of use, and my mom [of course] insisted we get a replacement strap from Epiphone, because warranty covered it, rather than buying a new one. Their straps just kept breaking, and breaking. The strap is awful. The cable, also, is awful. It just is of poor quality. Then, last week, my guitar just stopped working. I'm going to get it fixed this Thursday, but we think that the output connection somehow got broken, or something. For my birthday, last month, I got a Line 6 Spider II amp, that I am very satisfied with, and sounds wonderful, even with this guitar. Sadly, my guitar is still broken, so I can not play it. I have taken good care of my equipment, and all the epiphone products seem to break.Honestly, I'd suggest going with the Ibanez, or Squire Starter packs... or ... throw a few hundred more dollars out there, and buy quality stuff.Get a nice guitar... a nice 25w amp, a nice strap and cord... throw in some picks, and you'll be good to go.The guitar itself is nice, but now my 120 W amp is feeling lonely, because the stupid thing broke, and I have nothing to play.

I bought this pack around 4 years ago, and the only thing i have left is the guitar. i blew the amp, the strap was worn down, and the beginning strings all broke within a month. that being said, I've tried out thousand dollar guitars that sound very similar to this guitar. It has lasted me four years, even with barely any care-taking for 2 years. it still sounds the same as the day I got it, granted with the new amp. the neck takes some getting used to, but that's ok. overall, a pretty good guitar for the money. If your intermediate like I am, I'd get something a little better
I can't believe what I read sometimes. Of course this pack is for beginners or someone who just wants to learn to play guitar without a major investment. I constantly see folks making comparisons to higher quality items...there is no comparison--this is a bare bones, basic package. Muddy, flat tones? Comparing the guitar to owning an ES335? Buy it as a back-up guitar? For those with this view, you are likely 11 years old and were lucky enough in the first place to have been given this pack as a gift, and the highlight of you playing experience will be posting your "less than insighful" review. Give me a break...you show your complete lack of knowledge and experience at any level. It is what it is...a basic package with basic components for the basic enthusiast. For the hundreds, perhaps thousands, of units sold, don't take the word of the few here who post negative comments...likely, the rest of the novices who haven't posted a review find it a great option over purchasing each item seperately at a greater cost. If your interested, buy it and enjoy. It is what it is!!!
We've had an Epi Special 2 for a year or so, and with the addition of some Grover tuners, it's a great guitar. With that knowledge, My son jumped on it when I saw the SG Special Package as a "Stupid Deal". He gave it to his beloved, and she's overjoyed. We got the cherry red one, and when we pulled it out of the box, what a surprise! It's beautiful! It's a transparent finish, with nice grain figuring, like our red Dot has. I sure didn't see that in the pictures! To our amazement, the setup was really good out of the box. The gigbag's fine, the strap's ok (but I'd use those little dunlop locking buttons for safety), and the tuner is a pitchpipe. The tuners seem to be better than the batch that came on the Special 2. My only slam, (but not at the bargain price paid), is the amp. It has no low frequency response. At all. It seems that the chief design goal was to make the amp nearly as shallow as the guitar, to make for more compact shipping. All in all, this guitar has a quite nice neck and electronics, and even usable tuners. I've never gotten more bang for my buck.
I bought this pack a year ago to start playing guitar. As far as the guitar goes, I got the ebony SG. I think it is a great guitar easy acess to higher frets and it has good tone. The amp is okay, but for a beginner it will suit you well for a while. In fact I only just upgraded my amp, after about 10 months of buying this pack. The amp has an ok clean tone, the distortion is not the enough unless you turn up the "gain" knob up to about 6+. Even that will not compare to a really good combo amp. After a while I recommend an upgrade to a Spider III amp. Overall though I a extremely satisfied with my purchase and would recommend this guitar to anyone, the price point is excellent. Also, the pack included 3 picks, a guitar cord, a gig bag, tuner, and an dvd. I got this pack as a Scratch N' Dent and was STILL extremely happy with it, no problems!
This guitar is perfect for anyone on a budget. The sound quality on the guitar is great. The sg special can play almost any style that you want to play on it. The amp is good and is actually 15 watts not 10 watts. The guitar has amazing sound quality not to mention that it looks spectacular. You wont be disapointed if you buy this guitar.
I bought my guitar for about a few weeks now! and so far it is a good one!sweet guitar nice amps!but the tuner that i got wasnt the electronic one!lol..its the peach pipe! at least its all good! low price with sweet items!

Well I got this guitar a year ago and Over all its an ok pack. For a beginner it is awsome. The case is great and the guitar is ok the amp is good if you love distorcion. I would recomend this guitar highly to a beginner. I would also recomend this guitar to anyone wanting a back up guitar. Oh it is a very rugged guitar to. the neck is very sturdy. The strap that comes with it is great It has held on better than any strap I've had.
I bought this guitar and he amp is horrible. the guitar is good though. it can't be that bad because the guy that taught me to play has the same one. If you want to buy an amp learn to play first though. get an amp with distortions. do not be intimidated by its large pricetag, i got mine for a steal. I know how to play bc baritone too, so i am a bit of a muscian. i would say though to consider getting the squier stop dreaming start playing pack. it's a bit cheaper and the guitar is pretty cool, i dont know a bout the amp. I suggest a roland battery powered micro cube amp. it has built in distortion. also dont get an expensive distortion pedal to start out. you dont need a big amp to get a lot of sound either.
I've had this guitar for over a year now. It was my first electric and I loved it then and I still love it. The amp isn't the best but its great for a beginner. The guitar itself is nice though. It's great for all styles. I got the ebony finish and it looked great. a lot of my friends like it and one of my friends is wanting to steal it. overall this is a great buy for a beginner to start learning.
