I've had great luck with this solid, unpretentious beginner's guitar. This is just as, if not more reliable than the much more expensive "serious" guitars I've owned. Everything about it feels great. It's a light but sturdy guitar you won't feel guilty about putting through a little punishment. Unlike some other reviewers, mine has extraordinarily good tuners. it hardly ever goes flat or sharp, even after very heavy strumming. the input jack is chintzy, like all budget guitars, but replacing it runs you twenty to forty bucks at a reputable shop. As far as electronics go, the pick-ups are fair. the open coils are nice and bright, but put out plenty of noise. The instrument's weakness is its lack of tonal versatility. It only does one sound well: hard rock. that's (partially) the result of having only one tone knob. This is an excellent no-frills beginner's guitar, and a reliable mid-range one for an unbelievable value. F*@$ Squier!

On December 25 08, i got this guitar and i thought it was the greatest guitar in the world. I now realize that I am better than what this guitar offers me, it needs new pickups to start with. this guitar was pretty good for starters just learning the properties of the axe. I highly recommend this guitar for early risers! keep on rockin'!!

Comments about Epiphone SG-Special Electric Guitar:

Been playing guitar for 27 years. I've owned Gibson, Fender, BC Rich, Martin, Etc. This is a great guitar.I run it through a Marshall Kerry King signature JCM 800 and 4×12 Marshall cabinet. Also sounds great through a Marshall MG 15 solid state practice amp. It can do any genre from country to speed metal. Very versatile. Thin, light weight mahogany body and neck. Rosewood fingerboard with high output humbucker pick ups. I owned an Epiphone SG Special about 7 years ago and it was a thick, heavy basswood body with muddy sounding pickups. They have surpassed Gibson in bang for the buck. I hate to say it but the best guitars ( for the general public) are no longer made in the USA.

Comments about Epiphone SG-Special Electric Guitar:

I went to GC to check out a Strat and the SG was hanging there so I just had to pick it up. I tried a few different Guitars and I just kept coming back to the SG. I matched it up with a Fender Mustang I, 20Watt Amp. We made a good deal and I am very happy with the setup. The SG just feels so great and the sound is really good especially with the Mustang Amp. So far so good and we didn't break the bank. I'm glad I went into the store instead of ordering on-line. Thanks, to Steve in Cherry Hill

Comments about Epiphone SG-Special Electric Guitar:

I started playing guitar on my dads strat, and needed a guitar of my own. After trying out body styles and pick up configurations, the actual Gibson SG was my favorite. Of course, as a beginner, I was not going to spend that much money, so I had saved up to buy an epiphone. This guitar has been with me since the beginning, and I plan to keep it until the end, so I can look back, and say, "wow, I'm glad that I started playing on this one!" Overall, it's a great guitar, and my favorite features are the neck, the stop bar bridge, the bridge humbucker (the neck isn't super ideal but it's good enough), the double-cut body, and the the super light and even-weighted body. By now, I have very many guitars, and I still always come back to the epiphone SG!

Comments about Epiphone SG-Special Electric Guitar:

I bought this on a whim because of the price. Plus, the guy threw in a good padded gig bag for a little extra.
          Straight to the point
          Good clean sounding pickups.
          Wired well for the price.
Kill pot is a different but neat feature.
          Smooth low pro neck.

          Bad things.
Fret buzz, fix with neck adj (Don't do this if you never have!!!)
Very low quality machine heads, if you bend stings they do go out of tune easily. (Don't ever cheap out on guitar parts)

But hey, for the price, look, feel and sound, those few (sort of cheap) fixes are worth it.
This guitar is a keeper, for recording and jamming.

          Unexpectedly good find!

Comments about Epiphone SG-Special Electric Guitar:

This used purchase has led me to put down my other electric and set it aside! I really was surprised at how good an inexpensive guitar can be. The only problem with it so far was that one of the neck to body screws was backed out when I got it, and it seems to be stripping its hole. I'll fix that with a toothpick. Can't go wrong for the price, if you want to experience an SG.

Comments about Epiphone SG-Special Electric Guitar:

Bought this as a birthday present for my middle son. He has been playing his stratocasters and telecasters for 20+ years. I asked him what he would like for his 35th birthday and he said a Les Paul SG. I asked if the Epiphone Special SG would fit the bill. He went to a Guitar Center in Jacksonville, played it and told me a cherry one would be great. He loves it so much, he convinced me to get back to guitar playing. I bought a Ephiphone Limited Edition Les Paul and I am so glad that I did. I live with my oldest son and my 7 year old grandson. My grandson has been taking piano lessons for 2 years now and I'm teaching him the guitar and he's teaching this old dog to play the piano. None of this would have happened if my son's birthday present wasn't so appreciated.

Excellent guitar that has solid pick ups and a kill switch if you want to go for that Tom Morello sound. Great sound in all tunings. Absolutely love it and I am pleased with it.

I got this guitar for Christmas this past year (December 25, 2015) and I must say its an amazing guitar for everybody I love music by Green Day and I just had to learn some of their songs and they sound amazing on this amazing guitar! So far since having the guitar i have learned 6 Green Day songs and it sounds almost exact (only because I don't have it tuned to e-flat) and it's just amazing to use even in a band me and my friend play together when we hangout and it just sounds and looks amazing!
