Overview

The PRO-1 is a dreadnought-style acoustic guitar, probably the most recognized acoustic guitar profile in the world and a model that Epiphone has been perfecting since 1932. Dreadnought-style guitars are known for their incredible volume and tonal range. They are a both a songwriter's and rocker's best friend. There's hardly a recording made that doesn't feature a dreadnought acoustic guitar. But traditional dreadnoughts are also "big" guitars and difficult for new players to learn on as their first guitar. Now the PRO-1 changes all that for the better.

The PRO-1 features the classic dreadnought profile and tonewoods such as select spruce and mahogany but with a reduced body depth, which makes it easier and more comfortable to hold and play. The select spruce top-the source of the PRO-1's tone - has "sealed" Custom PRO-Prietary Bracing that allows the full range of the guitar to ring out with clear highs and solid lows while also keeping the guitar stable in any environment. If the heart of a great guitar is its top and bracing, its soul is found in the neck - how it feels in your hands and how easy it is to go from one chord to another.

The PRO-1 uses classic tonewoods like mahogany for the neck and rosewood for the fingerboard, but with innovative features that reduce hand fatigue and finger fatigue. Whereas vintage models typically have big chunky necks, the PRO-1's EZ-PRO "C" Shape is easy on your hands. The shorter scale makes learning chords and licks faster. PRO-Ease Lubricant makes the neck feel smooth and "worn in" on your fingers, and JumboPRO frets make it easy to hold down light gauge strings.

Epiphone's Deluxe tuners have 18:1 tuning gears that make finding the correct pitch quick and intuitive. The GraphTech NuBone and bridge saddle are made from hard and resonant tusq material, increasing the guitar's volume and harmonic "voice." The PRO-1 also features another innovation that even pros have been asking for: the EZ-String Bridge doesn't require string pins. No more getting your string caught on a string pin (or losing a pin in the dark while you're on stage). The PRO-1 makes the world's most famous style of guitar easy.

Less fatigue
Wrap your hand around the PRO-1 neck and you'll immediately feel how comfortable it is. The new EZ-Profile neck is designed so your hand can easily form chords without feeling fatigued.

Effortless Fretting
Epiphone JumboPRO frets make fretting notes and chords seem effortless. JumboPRO frets are taller and wider than smaller frets. So, when you push down a string, it's easier to make string contact with the fret with less hand fatigue and finger friction.

Shorter is Easier
Scale length is the distance from the saddle to the nut. The shorter the scale length, the "looser" the strings feel. Because the PRO-1's scale length is almost 1" shorter than most acoustic guitars, the strings are under less tension so you don't have to press hard to get good tone. And - since the frets are closer together - making chords is easier.

Make friction fiction
String and fingerboard friction not only slows your playing but also can hurt. The PRO-Ease string and fingerboard coating provides sleek, smooth action with reduced string noise.

No pain, no gain?
Nonsense-Epiphone believes in "no pain." Lighter gauge strings are easier to play so every PRO-1 is set-up and equipped with Epiphone Ultra-Light strings.

Easy action
With Epiphone's Dual-Action truss rod, you can adjust the neck in both directions, which not only stabilizes the neck but also makes set-up easier and more precise.

When shopping for a first guitar for your child (or yourself) it's confusing. The sales staff will usually direct you to the solid top Yamaha FG or FS series. Tone and quality wise, those are great guitars but they also come out of the box in need of a good setup to be playable up the neck. With the PRO-1 line, Epiphone has worked hard to deliver a reasonable factory setup on one of their most inexpensive models. I can not overstate the benefit this brings to the player! A few other things that stand out for this price range: We also get NuBone nut and saddle on all pro-1 models (this is the material Taylor and other top of the line builders use on their models). The NuBone nut makes a big difference in tone. Also it's a short scale which I think makes it easier to play, the neck is a slip D profile which makes it easy to get your hand around. Tuners at 18:1 ratio not 14:1, that's a first for a guitar in this price range and you get a humidifier and free lessons. If you play the least expensive PRO-1 model against anything in the budget acoustic room at Guitar Center (for those floor plans that separate budget from high end) you notice it's easier to play than anything else.... There is a solid-top version that comes with electronics if you must have a solid top, the truth is having a solid top is overrated on most budget guitars. All solid wood construction does sound different, but when you mix a solid top with the laminated back and sides, it's just hit and miss. If you stick with playing your first guitar won't be your last, and you're more likely to keep playing if you have an instrument that sounds good that is also very easy to play. For that the PRO-1 is your best bet right now.

Comments about Epiphone PRO-1 Acoustic Guitar:

I'd say this instrument is good for just about any use you can put to it, stage, studio, practice, parties, or sing-alongs around the campfire. It plays smoothly and sounds sweet, rich brilliant tones that ring out. Most professionals will want a higher priced brand or renowned model but I'm here to tell you that the Epiphone Pro-1 Series Acoustic is a fine instrument right out of the box, pun intended. Looks great too in any finish!

(rest. bar for example) and its so confortable. many people degree the pro-1 for begginers, but this is more...

So far looks good, arrived in perfect condition and timely manner. Haven't played it yet. It's a gift. My one complaint is the QR sticker that was on the guitar and very difficult to remove. There is still a faint residue. I wish this hadn't been stuck on my brand new instrument.

I just bought the blue guitar online. I am waiting for it to ship on July 7th. However, I ordered the Epiphone EDREAD Dreadnought Hardshell Case. I am just hoping this fits. Because nowhere Online I found any description or details for a matching case

Comments about Epiphone PRO-1 Acoustic Guitar:

Going on 60 years old I decided to learn to play guitar. After reading hundreds of reviews I decided the Epiphone Pro-1 Acoustic would be a good "starter" for me and, for once, I was right. I picked it up at the Columbus, Oh. GC store. I told the salesman what I was looking for and he took me right to it. I wanted to get a feel for this guitar because I had broken my left wrist years ago and have lost some mobility in that hand. I have no problems with most chords with this guitar. The neck and finger board are very nice. I purchased that very guitar as an "open box" item and received a $40 discount.
The action was great. After tuning the strings a tad it has a great sound. Mellow and not too loud.
Some reviews have talked about things falling off or cracking but, I've had no problems with mine except I had to tighten the screws in the tuners once. I've had this guitar for over a month now and play it everyday and have only replaced the strings to Martin Marquis Silk and Steel.
Bottom line; If you're looking for a budget, beginner guitar, check this one out.
