The Epiphone PR-150 is a great guitar for beginners. I would know that because I am a beginner and I've found it much easier than most other guitars I've used. It neck is much thinner so it works well for people with small hands (like girls). I have two older brother's who are much more professional with guitars that loved the guitar. The sound and quality of this guitar is great. I'm really that I went out and bought this guitar. So what I'm really trying to say is that I think it would be a great idea to try this guitar out and see how good it is yourself.

I played the guitar in the store and was pleasantly surprised at how easy it played and how good it sounded for the price. So I bought it and took it home. Hung it on the wall next to 7 other guitars, a few of them in the 2k price range. Within 2 months the high E and B string began bottoming out between the 10th and 13th fret. I carefully filed the frets down to adjust. After 2 more months all 6 strings bottom out between the 10th and the 14th fret. I adjusted the truss rod. Now strings are way too high at the 5th fret but still bottom out when played at the 10th through the 14th fret. The guitar neck has warped into a veritable roller coaster where the action is bottoming out at the 12th and way too high above and below the 12th fret. It is now a useless guitar. Some have had hood results. I suspect the wood on my neck is too soft.

Great Guitar, but.....

By erm22

from Dallas, Texas

Comments about Epiphone PR-150 Acoustic Guitar:

this is a great guitar out of the box. better tones than some of the more expensive acoustic guitars (better that $150-$200 range). i picked up this guitar as a "knock around" for camping and beach trips. the sound is deep and true, and for a hundred bucks you dont have to worry about tearing the thing up. One problem, the action is a bit high, so if your finger strength is not up to par, might want to change to lighter strings. The action would be the only complaint i have about this wonderful guitar.

What a Steal!

By Bruce Kizerian

from Murray, UT

Comments about Epiphone PR-150 Acoustic Guitar:

I always recommend Epiphone acoustics to friends who want a great instrument at a low price. The PR-150 is the best guitar available under $400. Everyone can't afford those fine Martins and Taylors, but that is no reason not to have a well-constructed, great sounding instrument. This instrument is well set up and very playable right out of the box. The low cost belies it's unbelievable sound. It has the fit and finish of a much more expensive instrument. What a great guitar!

My Review for the Epiphone PR-150 Acoustic

By Michelle7107

from Sacramento, CA

Comments about Epiphone PR-150 Acoustic Guitar:

I bought this guitar today and I am very happy with it. Now I'm a beginner so I don't have much experiences with other guitars but this one seems to be great. It's really sturdy. There aren't any buzzing noises like some guitars I've seen. It's a really great deal, too! I bought it for only 99.99. If your a beginner and you don't want to spend tons of money on a guitar I highly reccommend this one! Great Buy!

awesome acoustic

By robby

Comments about Epiphone PR-150 Acoustic Guitar:

ive played electric guitar for 2.5 years now and decided to get my first acoustic. when i first played this beauty at guitar center i fell in love. it has an amazing sound, is virtually buzz free, the sunburst is amazing, its CHEAP, stays in tune for a loooong time, and is really comfortable to play. BUT, the action is kinda high so unless you have your finger strength up you might put on lighter gauge strings. and as with any brand new guitar you will want to put on better strings and that will greatly improve the sound and sustain of your new guitar.

great guitar

By John

from Park Ridge, NJ

Comments about Epiphone PR-150 Acoustic Guitar:

I purchased this guitar because the only guitar in my house was a classical nylon string and I wanted a dreadnought to bring to school. In my opinion, you can't find a better deal. The sound is great especially with a set of new strings. The tuners are good and the guitar stays in tune pretty long. The gloss finish is nice and the guitar seems to be crafted of quality materials.

A Steal

By Brett Devall

from Louisiana

Comments about Epiphone PR-150 Acoustic Guitar:

I bought this guitar with the vintage sunburst finish a few months ago. Looking for my first guitar, I was mainly focused on how low the price was. However, I was immensly surprised by just how nice this guitar looks and how great it sounds. Some people I know who play much more expensive guitars were impressed when they heard how it sounds, but they were blown away when they heard how much it cost. I was expecting cheap strings on it, but they were actually very good. The action is a bit high, so it took me a little while to get my finger strength up to par, but they're much stronger now and I see that as a good thing. I recently put on extra light strings and it's an absolute breeze to play. With such a great sound and looks that will have everybody thinking you paid a lot more than you did, this guitar is definately a steal.

Great Guitar Except...

By Jon

from Mishawaka, IN

Comments about Epiphone PR-150 Acoustic Guitar:

The only problem I've had with this guitar is with the tuners. The guitar stays in tune just fine, but the first time I went to change strings, a couple of the tuners felt like they weren't turning correctly. I took of a couple of the casings covering the tuner, and found that the gears in the tuners must be made of a softer metal because they were all chewed up. As many as 2-3 teeth on some of them are almost completely gone. I'll be upgrading them ASAP but other than that, I LOVE this guitar. I'm pretty new to playing guitar, but I'm confident that this guitar will stay with me for a long time, even when I eventually upgrade to a higher-end guitar.

Epiphone PR-150

By Christopher

from Sandy

Comments about Epiphone PR-150 Acoustic Guitar:

This is a great guitar for the price I bought it for. The guitar sounds really good, even with stock strings on it. The wood and body is nicly finished, but isn't show worhty. The neck is nice, but only has 20 frets, its hard to bend and slide with the stock strings. The tunning pegs arn't anything special. The body is light, and is great for just bringing around the campfire. The quality of the guitar is pretty good, but it's not the best. The guitar is pretty duriable and can take some abuse.

Raving

By Sarah

Comments about Epiphone PR-150 Acoustic Guitar:

I'm just beginning to learn guitar, and I have to say, this is an exciting peice to start on. It has a great resonating sound that people have responded well to. Everyone who has heard it has said, "wow, that's a really great guitar". And this is from people who know. So, for a beginner guitar/guitarist, that's not a half bad compliment. For both of us!

Great Value

By Thardy

from Austin, TX

Comments about Epiphone PR-150 Acoustic Guitar:

Got this guitar about 3 months ago, the action was a little high and the strings are not the greatest. However I re-string it with some MSP 4100 and paid $40 to have it setup, and now it plays like a dream. Gives you a full rich sound that you would aspect out of a more expensive guitar, for the price of this guitar you can?t go wrong. The only problem I ran into, Epiphone doesn?t sell a case for this one, so you have to go to the local guitar center to pick one up.

Comments about Epiphone PR-150 Acoustic Guitar:

Don't let the term "beginner guitar" steer you away. I've been playing for over 40 years and have never enjoyed owning and playing a guitar as much as I have this one. I bought it with the sunburst finish, as I have never owned one like that, and this is what initially caught my eye.

I came home inspired one day to find my trusty old acoustic Fender had a lifting bridge, so I needed a replacement. Having heard an ad about a recent GC sale, I popped on over to see if I could try out several different models, before I found myself settling on this one.
I had never really heard of the brand before, but when I went home to research it and found who the company was owned by and what bands used Epiphone. I lucked out with an amazing deal at GC, fitting my budget for a quick replacement. And I am so glad I did.

This guitar has inspired me to play for hours on end, and I honestly have hardly put it down since I bought it in March. I chose to protect it with an Epiphone Case (the eDread) and not only play it every day, but like to look over at how nice it looks in the room, in or out of the case. It has rekindled my old passion for playing, and I am looking forward to replacing my vintage electric with an Epiphone, as well.
Through research, I have found that the "PR" series was eventually replaced by the "DR" series, so the Truss Bar cover has the latter initials on it. I have also found that this is virtually the same guitar as the DR-100.

After weeks of playing, the guitar stays in tune very well. I often play along with videos and have even taken some new virtual lessons and haven't had to tune up again for a couple of weeks. For the price, particularly during a sale season, you really can't go wrong with this as your first, second, or even third guitar. Love it.

I went to guitar center looking to buy a somewhat cheap acoustic guitar, but this one caught my eye. I played it and the sound was very nice, the tone was great and it sounded very clear. I even compared it to other models on the wall that costed a little more and this one sounded way better. Amazing value for the price.

Comments about Epiphone PR-150 Acoustic Guitar:

I found this guitar at the Whitehall, Pa. location which is always a great place to buy guitars and do business. Quite a well run GC location. This PR-150, looked good, sounded good, and played good, and it had a good price. It's little wonder that this guitar is one of Epipihone's most popular economy priced guitars. It's a good guitar! Get it! ...It is strong and sturdy, and the finish on mine was show room perfect...and the action perfect..right out of the box.

      Great guitar for beginners

      By Beezy

      from WA

Comments about Epiphone PR-150 Acoustic Guitar:

This was my first acoustic guitar that I bought about 1 y ear ago and it is the reason my skills are where they are today. It's not the best sounding guitar in the world, but it gets the job done! The problem I had with it was the strings rattling. That may have also been me not being able to bar all of the strings but I do not have the rattling problem with my new Takamine. If you are looking for a guitar to start leanring on and you are on a budget, I don't see anything wrong with this guitar. If you are patient, takamine makes an excellent guitar at the 300 dollar price tag that I would recommend to anybody. If not, go ahead and grab this! You won't be disappointed.

I had 5 guitars, 3 electrics, a classical 6 string acoustic (under construction) and my 12 string Laravee, which I love very much. I really needed a 6 string acoustic and have been waiting for the right one. Well, I found it in this bad boy. Great sound, great action and when I put my new Elixer nanowebs on it, this is gonna be sweet!! The top E has a slight buzz on open string, but that's just an adjustment. No problem! I've been playing it for 2 weeks now and couldn't be happier. Thanks for the great deal Guitar Center!!

        Great Beginner Guitar

        By Alex

        from California

Comments about Epiphone PR-150 Acoustic Guitar:

I had always wanted to get into guitar playing, but was afraid that it would simply cost too much. However, when I discovered this guitar, I realized that I was wrong. Although this does not compare to Taylors and other thousand dollar-plus guitars, it is VERY good sounding for the price. After I had it for a while, I put some Elixir strings on it and it now sounds as good as any guitar I've heard. Great Buy!
