Overview

For such an easy-to-afford guitar, the Epiphone PR-150 is a standout -- a perfect instrument to get started on. It is a dreadnought and features a spruce top, mahogany back and sides, and a mahogany neck with rosewood fretboard. The PR-150 sounds great and this Epiphone's sunburst finish gives it the look of a far more expensive guitar.

The Epiphone PR-150 is a great guitar for beginners. I would know that because I am a beginner and I've found it much easier than most other guitars I've used. It neck is much thinner so it works well for people with small hands (like girls). I have two older brother's who are much more professional with guitars that loved the guitar. The sound and quality of this guitar is great. I'm really that I went out and bought this guitar. So what I'm really trying to say is that I think it would be a great idea to try this guitar out and see how good it is yourself.

Received this guitar today, and was really looking forward to giving it as a gift. After the initial inspection, it was seen to have a crack in the neck pocket area where the neck was beginning to separate from the body. The fret edges were like razors and were not the result of a shrunken neck, but were simply poorly beveled/filed. I was not expecting to receive a 2000.00 Martin however; based on the stellar reviews, I was expecting a guitar without defects that played within the realm of an entry level guitar. The pain/cuts that would result from playing this neck alone would make a younger person quit. Honestly, how hard is it for Epiphone to take 2 long pieces of masking tape place them on the sides of the neck, and sand the edges of the frets? The guitar says "setup in the USA". Obviously, setup in the USA means a truss rod adjustment only without a quality inspection. As of now it is on the way back to MF and I am waiting for them to receive it so they can send out another one. Hoping the 2nd time around I get a guitar from an inspector who actually released a passable instrument. All things said, the guitar does show promise as the action is fantastic, and the stock strings make it sound very pleasing to my ears. If it were not for the neck, I would have taken care of the frets myself however; a separated neck will only get worse with time so in my case its rinse repeat. If not for the neck, this would have been a 3.5 to 4 star purchase.

Good sound quality, good construction materials and affordable starter guitar. When buying a gig bag, get one that is at least 43 inches..standard gig bags aren't large enough to hold guitar.

Comments about Epiphone PR-150 Acoustic Guitar:

Really good guitar. I didn't expect it to be so good because of the price, but it sounds so nice. The only problem I have with it is that there is some fret buzzing and it goes out of tune if you strum too hard. But it's still worth the price, definitely!

Comments about Epiphone PR-150 Acoustic Guitar:

Chinese guitars vary greatly in quality, even in the same model. A month ago I played one that was just out of the box and it was awful, high action, terrible intonation. The one I bought was hanging from the rack, I played it for a while in the noise of the store and determined that it was probably okay. I put light gauge Ernie Ball 80/20 Bronze strings on it, adjusted the truss rod over two days (adjust 1/4 turn, let it sit a half hour, check and repeat until you have it where you want it) to bring the intonation and string height in at the 12th fret. Epiphone specs are Treble E 5/64 in., Bass E 7/64 in. from the top of the 12th fret to the bottom of the string. The sticker says it was set-up by Epiphone, inspector 10, but if it was No. 10 was having a bad day. I like it a lot. My other guitars are a Gibson Country Western circa 1960's, a Martin D-15M and a Moserite Ventures Mark V.
