I did not buy my EF500RCCENS through Guitar Center but I wanted to offer my 2-cents here. I've been a finger-style guitarist since about 1974 and I consider my playing ability to be relatively advanced. The day I got this guitar I played it for 3-hours straight. I was in another world the whole time. The most PERFECT intonation I could possibly have hoped for. Superb sound and projection, even with the bass strings. The overtones and harmonics are sweet and rich. It rings like a bell! I play it often and can't remember the last time I had to adjust the tuning. For less than 1k this guitar will hold its own against a Martin more than 3x the price. I know this first hand! Sure, it doesn't have near the fit and finish of a pricey Martin or Taylor. But if you want a guitar to actually enjoy playing and hearing then this Epi is truly the ONE!! Just try and tear this fantastic guitar from my cold dead hands. Not gonna happen!!!

I ordered one of these EF-500RCCE guitars and found the cedar top to be poorly sanded and finished, with several very rough spots and an uneven finish. The Rosewood sides near the neck had some strange areas that looked uneven and poorly finished. On top of that, it played poorly--lousy strings and a rough fretboard. I sent it back and ordered another, hoping this one was an aberration. Not the case. The second unit was worse, with terrible sanding scratches behind the tailpiece and a dead sound. I sent it back, too. I have seen and played the EF-500M guitar from this series, with the spruce top and mahogany back and sides, and although it costs less (admitttedly without the electronics), it is much better finished and sounds great, like guitars costing much more. The EF-500RCCE, well, stay away from it.

Disappointment - Damaged

By David McIntire

from Oklahoma City, OK

Comments about Epiphone Masterbilt EF-500RCCE Fingerstyle Acoustic-Electric Guitar:

After making signifant progress on a beginner guitar I wanted to upgrade to a mid-level fingerstyle guitar. I had read some good reviews of the Masterbuilt EF series and wanted the wider 1 3/4" vintage V neck and Cedar top. I ordered EF 500CCRE through the Guitar Center Store and they had it shipped to their store where I picked it up. The box looked a little crushed but the salesman assured me it was doubled boxed and should be OK. When I got it home and unpacked it was crushed is several places big time and had a hole the size of a pencil in the top. In addition it did not have the wide V neck as advertised. The shipping box was very cheap cardboard whick is why it didn't hold up to shipping. My concern was if they paid so little attention to the shipping box perhaps they cut corners in the guitar. I did tune it up and play it a little before returning it. It sounded and played wonderfully. The tunners were positive and it tuned easily. I was very disappointed it was damaged. I returned it and since it was out of stock for 30 to 60 days I had to chose another brand and up my budget considerably. The Guitar Center did refund my money without question but it took two weeks to credit my charge card. I chose an American made guitar with the wide neck and cedar top and am quite pleased with it.

Great Guitar!

Comments about Epiphone Masterbilt EF-500RCCE Fingerstyle Acoustic-Electric Guitar:

Don't let negative reviews sway you away from buying this guitar. I ordered one and it arrived in about 3 days in perfect condition. Garret at my local Guitar Center checked it out and tuned it up for me on the spot. This is a beautiful guitar with a glossy, natural finish. It has beautiful tone. I love the "V" shaped neck. The intonation is perfect all the way up the neck. Great fingerpicker's guitar!. Get one, you will love it too!

Comments about Epiphone Masterbilt EF-500RCCE Fingerstyle Acoustic-Electric Guitar:

Recently purchased and very happy with the Masterbuilt quality. Good projection when played acoustic. I would compare with instruments 2-3 times the cost. (Taylor/Martin)
Value for dollar, exceeds any other acoustic/electric guitar on the market today.

Great Guitar

Comments about Epiphone Masterbilt EF-500RCCE Fingerstyle Acoustic-Electric Guitar:

I've owned Martins,Taylors and Gibsons. The epiphone ef500 is the easiest playing, sweetest sounding, finger style guitar yet. I've been a finger picker since about 1963 when I first heard Freewheelin' by Bob Dylan. I've built a few guitars and know how hard it is to get the right wood and put it together correctly. The ef500 is a very responsive guitar and the best guitar money I've ever spent.

An all solid fingerstyle guitar with room for your fingers!

By Mark McCormack

from Ventura, California

Comments about Epiphone Masterbilt EF-500RCCE Fingerstyle Acoustic-Electric Guitar:

Why this guitar is apt for fingerstyle: (It's actually surprisingly good for strumming and flatpicking too though, and the cedar top does not easily overdrive even when strummed hard, probably due to the wide scalloped bracing) The one they sent me has a roomy 2-3/8 inch string spacing at the saddle-something that's really hard to find in a lot of much more expensive guitars marketed for "fingerstyle" It has a wider nut width of 1-13/16" It has a really great neck and action, well set up, intonation spot-on throughout It's relatively loud, even when fingerpicked, thanks no doubt to the satin finish It sounds sweet acoustically Has a versatile stereo pickup system with two output jacks and It has the 2-3/8" string spacing! If you're in the market for a very reasonably priced fingerstyle guitar I don't think you can do much better than this. If you get a bad one, with Guitar Center, you can always take it back. Actually, I have my doubts about those other reviews, but not about the guitar GC sent me. It's a shame that you can't find these in stock in stores to try though, but maybe that would detract from sales of some more expensive guitars...

Disappointed

By William Zielinski

from Somewhere, Pa.

Comments about Epiphone Masterbilt EF-500RCCE Fingerstyle Acoustic-Electric Guitar:

I ordered one of these and when it arrived I was told it had shipping damage but the box was not damaged and the saddle was lifting off the top. I gave the store the benefit of the doubt and ordered another one to replace the "damaged" original only to have that arrive with the saddle lifting slightly and evidence of poor workmanship in a few spots. This is a "Masterbilt" product??? Yikes!! Count me out. There was a different, less expensive "Masterbilt" in the guitar section of the store and it was virtually flawless. Either quality control at Epiphone is slipping badly these days or everyone involved thinks buyers just don't care about what they purchase. A shame really! No winners to be found when all is said and done.

Great sounding guitar but it's not all-solid wood

By Jeremy

from Houston, TX

Comments about Epiphone Masterbilt EF-500RCCE Fingerstyle Acoustic-Electric Guitar:

I've seen a few other reviewers note this guitar is all-solid wood. In fact, it is not. This can be confirmed by the product specs here at the GC website as well as the Epiphone product page. Masterbuilt guitars are no longer all-solid wood (there are a few exceptions, this model is not one of exceptions. It has laminated b&s wood. See the Epiphone website). Having said that, this is a great guitar. The nano flex pickup system sounds fantastic. If you're looking at this model also consider the (non-masterbuilt) Epiphone Inspired by Texan. That model has the same nano flex pickup but also has solid back and solid top. It's priced about the same as this one.

What an absolute bargain! I did have to take it in for an adjustment but Man do I dig the savings. To the complainers return another one. I have friends that love this Guitar and have the patience and time to have Guitar Center make the adjustments.
