Overview

The Masterbilt De Luxe Classic Acoustic-Electric Guitar is a large body guitar that produces a strong, full tone capable of cutting through any mix. It features an arched solid spruce top with traditional Longitudinal bracing, tortoise style pickguard, and classic f-holes. Inside the upper f-hole is a 1930s-era replica Epiphone label. The De Luxe Classic is available in traditional Vintage Natural and Vintage Sunburst aged gloss finishes, each with unique color tones inspired by Epiphone’s priceless vintage collection in Nashville, Tennessee. The tortoise-style pickguard comes unattached.

Case sold separately.

Like Epi’s first generation of archtops, the new De Luxe Classic has a unique body profile with a 17” lower bout, a 12.6” upper bout, a 10.25” waist, and a 21” body length. With its signature f-holes and solid spruce top, the De Luxe Classic has incredible punch as a rhythm instrument that flattop guitarists will discover can easily cut through a mix better than most any other acoustic. Both the body and top feature 3-layer ivory and black color binding while the ebony fingerboard has single-layer ivory color binding. The f-holes also have 2-layer binding. The 5-piece hard maple and mahogany neck has a full, rounded-C profile that is glued to the body with a dovetail joint for a precise fit so the De Luxe Classic will resonate as one piece of wood. The ebony fretboard has 20 medium frets, a 25.5” scale length and pearloid “Notched Diamond” inlays modeled after the original Masterbilts.

The full tone of the De Luxe Classic sounds beautiful unamplified on a small stage or in the studio. But now the cutting-edge eSonic HD (High Definition) preamp system and Shadow NanoFlex HD Under-saddle pickup make it possible for archtop players to hear their instrument amplified exactly as they hear it unplugged. No archtop player has ever heard an acoustic guitar more accurately represented through a sound system before. The Shadow NanoFlex HD Under-saddle pickup has easy-to-access controls for Master Volume and Master EQ mounted just inside the lower f-hole. Now you have complete control over how much of the acoustic guitar is amplified. The pre-amp system is powered by a standard 9-volt battery that is easy to access, located near the 1/4” output jack.

Historic Epiphone Hardware
The De Luxe Classic comes with Historic Epiphone Re-issue Tuners with Marboloid "Crown" buttons with an upgraded 18:1 tuning ratio for fast and accurate tuning. The tuners are mounted on an Epiphone Dovewing headstock with Pearloid "Banner" logos. Unlike many vintage archtops, the De Luxe Classic has a dual action truss rod for easy and perfect setup. The floating adjustable ebonoid bridge is made from a synthesized material that has the grain-like texture and look of ebony but is harder and more reliable for years of playing. The historic aged all-nickel trapeze tailpiece is also inspired from Epiphone’s vintage Masterbilt collection. Every new Masterbilt Century guitar is setup at the factory with Cleartone 12-53 gauge strings.

Lifetime Guarantee
The Epiphone Masterbilt De Luxe Classic Acoustic-Electric Guitar comes with a limited lifetime guarantee and world renown 24/7/365 Gibson Customer Service.

Epiphone’s Masterbilt Century Collection
Epiphone’s first Masterbilt archtops quickly rose to popularity during the 1930s “Big Band” era and were renowned for their warm woody tone, wide tonal range and punchy volume. However, with the invention of the electric guitar pickup, archtop acoustic guitars quickly became equipped with magnetic amplification and were for the most part, forever transformed into “electric” guitars. Until now…

Epiphone, one of the leaders in affordable professional archtop guitars, reinvents the archtop again by combining our original, time-tested designs with 21st century acoustic guitar electronics to bring you the new Masterbilt Century Collection. The first collection of archtop "acoustic-electric" guitars designed to be played and amplified as true acoustic instruments.

Now with the eSonic HD preamp and Shadow NanoFlex HD Under-saddle pickup, you can plug in any Masterbilt Century arch top acoustic-electric into an amp or any PA and hear your guitar's beautiful and dynamic true acoustic tone on any size stage. For flattop guitarists who have only played old plywood archtops, the sound of a Masterbilt Century guitars will be a revelation.

Comments about Epiphone Masterbilt Century Collection De Luxe Classic F-Hole Archtop Acoustic-Electric Guitar:

The only problem I had was getting a case for this guitar. When ordering online the person on chat said it came with a hard case --- it didn't. So I called the local store and was told it didn't come with a case and the case needed was on backorder for 2 months.

Comments about Epiphone Masterbilt Century Collection De Luxe Classic F-Hole Archtop Acoustic-Electric Guitar:

I researched this instrument extensively. I used to play a friend's Silvertone archtop when I was a kid, and I've thought about getting one of my own ever since. I am happy with my decision to purchase this Epiphone.

Pros: The instrument was well-packaged for shipping and arrived unscathed. I had trouble dialing in the correct bridge position when I first tried to set it up. I solved that by picking up a Peterson StroboPlus tuner. I swapped strings (new Elixirs) without any problem and then lowered the action somewhat. Once I had the right tuner, all this was a breeze. The tone is excellent up and down the neck, and overall the guitar is a joy to play. I have large hands, but this neck reminds me of my first Gibson so I feel right at home. I've only plugged in once - just to test the pickup - and it sounds good. It gets a little boomy with the bass ratcheted up, but the tone control is very friendly.

Cons: The finish has some flaws. I would have expected better quality control for a guitar advertised as "Masterbilt." There's an overlap streak right across the top that's pretty noticeable. There's also an obvious thumbprint just below the pickguard; the finisher apparently couldn't wait for the shellac to set before handling it. The neck was dirty with grease and some small metal shavings around the frets, but some Stew-Mac Fretboard Finishing Oil took that right off.

Case: A Gator GC-Jumbo case holds this guitar beautifully.

Summary: The finish flaws are the only reason I would not give this guitar a 5-star rating. I'm willing to overlook the defects. I bought this guitar to play, not to look at, and I plan on enjoying it for a long time.

It's an arch top with a loud mid range punch unamplified, and rich and full plugged into a good P.A.

Comments about Epiphone Masterbilt Century Collection De Luxe Classic F-Hole Archtop Acoustic-Electric Guitar:

I fell in love with a friend's Harmony archtop about fifty years ago when I was just learning to play. I've been researching models for several months and decided to try the Century Deluxe. Overall, I am happy with the choice. The guitar is well-constructed, and it's fun to play. I have large hands, so the neck feels very comfortable ... just like my first Gibson. The tone is great, and it remains consistent up and down the neck as other reviewers have noted. I changed strings and had a little trouble setting up the floating bridge until I used a Peterson StroboPlus tuner, and now it's perfect. My only complaint has to do with the finish. There is a noticeable spray overlap on the front, just above the bridge. There's also a large thumbprint just below the pickguard. For a guitar that calls itself "Masterbilt," I expected better quality control. A Gator GC-Jumbo case fits the guitar nicely.

Comments about Epiphone Masterbilt Century Collection De Luxe Classic F-Hole Archtop Acoustic-Electric Guitar:

I haven't got to use it much because it is a Christmas present. I did check it out when I received it and plated it a little for a hour before my wife wrapped it up for Christmas. I was a little surprised that it is honey stained, all my guitars are clear and when the add said it had a clear finish I thought it would be clear. Which it is not. I am not crazy about the plastic knobs on the turning machines they are awkward at best. They probably are very good machines but I am considering changing them out to Grover mini roll-matic machines. The strings are much heavier that I play (.010-.047 phosphor bronze) What I am crazy about is why I bought the guitar is the arch top the nut width and the tone.
I have a pre 1980 Epiphone that I have played everyday now for 36 years and actually the action is better on my old Epi and I will make it better every time I change the strings I will take the saddle and nut down .020 to .040. It has the potential of being a great guitar. I do like it very much for the price. For a masterbilt guitar I'm disappointed, it should have been better set up.

Comments about Epiphone Masterbilt Century Collection De Luxe Classic F-Hole Archtop Acoustic-Electric Guitar:

This guitar has a full body arched top, but is thinner then your jumbo acoustic flat top guitar. the neck is a little wider then average. it took me a week to get comfortable playing it, but very clean and loud. the finish has an old school look and has No shine to it, which can make it look less expensive. it's light weight and the pick-up amplifies the acoustic sound, very nicely. overall its a fine instrument and for the price, is a great change from your high end flat-top acoustic guitars. this guitar is great for playing in home, studio, recording or with amplified for the stage.
