Incredible Mandolin - Exceptional Value

By Johnny Stuart

from Albany, NY

Comments about Epiphone MM-50 F-Style Mandolin:

I got a new Epiphone MM-50 as a gift and after only 2 days I am in love with it. (I actually fell in love with it as soon as I opened the case!) I am a pro musician and have played a lot of mandolins and guitars through the years (to say the least), and I have rarely seen the incredble quality embodied in this Epi mandolin. The tone, clarity, natural volume, and playability all the way up to the 15th fret and beyond is comparable to mandolins with a book value 10 times that of this Epi, making it a truly exceptional value, and far superior to other mandolins in its price range. It is also visually stunning. The pictures on the website really don't do it justice. The finish is excellent, the binding is scraped perfectly, and the flower pot inlay work in the headstock is done to match the 1922-24 Loars. As a note, I have read a few reviews stating that their instrument had a dead tone, fret buzz, etc.; those are all indications that their instruments are not set up properly. Mine was set up perfectly right out of the box. If yours isn't, just take it to an experienced guitar tech and they will know how to easily fix all of those problems. Believe me, you won't find another $500 mandolin with half of the Epi's tone and playability.

Epiphone continues to stand out

By Richard A. Aiken

from Pickens, SC 29671

Comments about Epiphone MM-50 F-Style Mandolin:

I have been a mandolin player for years now and in my collection is my older Epiphone MM-20, mine has the upgraded inlays, not the dots, I can only say that this instrument holds its own! I would recommend for a beginner or advanced player to try this mandolin, for the money, you won't beat it, sound quality and the wood work is beautiful. 5 star

GREAT 4 BLUEGRASS!!

By JonBradley

from woodstock GA

Comments about Epiphone MM-50 F-Style Mandolin:

This mandolin is a dream come true... For people who can't spent a grand on an instrument. This baby chops with the best of them. I have a buddy who has played gibsons and he swears the just slaped a epiphone logo on mine. you can slide up and down with ease and even get that bluesy sound when struming through two finger cords. Buy this baby and you wont be sorry!! Ive had mine for three years now and can't bring myself to give it up.

Epiphone MM 50: A solid investment in my future

By Andy Schmidt

from Overland Park, Kansas

Comments about Epiphone MM-50 F-Style Mandolin:

I am a man of many talents, and master of none. But, that does not keep me from trying. So, I have a studio full of electronics, many guitars and keyboards, midi drum set, and quality computer recording gear (Pro Tools, 003, Logic Studio, Ensemble, Duet). But, the other day, I turned a corner. I was in the acoustic room with a fresh load of cash on me and a guitar center valued customer coupon. MMMM... so many choices. When I told my buddy I had decided on a Mandolin, he about did three flips backward. I went for the Epiphone MM50 F-Style. It's looks were amazing, so naturally I knew I would sound amazing doing the Grateful Dawg thing. I have had so much fun unplugging and getting down to the basics of learning a new instrument that to do otherwise would just be plain silly at this point. The Epiphone plays great. There are all sorts of free tutorials on the net. There is a culture of mandolin players. What a great way to deviate and enhance skills in ways other than pushing the right set of effects or a program into a machine. Thanks to Keith, the manager, we came to the conclusion that the Epiphone MM50 was the instrument for me. He knows me well as I frequent and buy often. I can't wait for the first acoustic campfire circle where I pull out my mandolin and begin to pick up on the song. Thanks Keith. You done it again. I am back to the basics. Peace.

Perfect for beginner.

By Chris

from Maryland

Comments about Epiphone MM-50 F-Style Mandolin:

I have had this mando for about 6 months now. I really like the sound of the top and for the money it really doesn't get better. A few recommendations for a buyer. Take the rosewood bridge off and have an ebony put in it's place. That really drives the sound in this mandolin. Another thing would be to get a professional setup done by a mandolin experienced luthier. with some small adjustments this mandolin rivals ones twice the price.

Awsome chopper for the price!!

By jon

Comments about Epiphone MM-50 F-Style Mandolin:

Look no futher for your mandolin... This cotton pickin thing is the envy of my whole family. It sounds like a Gibson model, looks like the Loar from the 30's. Awsome chop, built well and Epi's warrenty coverage is top notch. If your starting out this is your work horse for years to come. Besides, no one needs a mandolin that cost 5 Grand unless your Ricky Skaggs!!!

Great mandolin at an incredible price!

By Lauren

from Houston, TX

Comments about Epiphone MM-50 F-Style Mandolin:

I recently purchased the Epiphone MM-50 F-Style Mandolin, and I am thrilled with it! This instrument is incredible. It's beautiful to look at and it plays like a dream. It also sounds great when playing any style of music. I considered puchasing an electric mandolin that was in the store (it isn't on the website), but because of its laminate top the sound was not as good when it wasn't plugged in. I will not need to play with an amp very often, so this one was the best choice for me. I am new to the mandolin (I play the harp), but the staff at the Guitar Center was so informative and helpful. I am so excited about learning to play the mandolin, and I could not have picked a better instrument (at such a GREAT price) to start on.

Great Intermediate Mando!

By mmukav

from Chardon, Ohio

Comments about Epiphone MM-50 F-Style Mandolin:

I owned this mando, then sold it to move up to a better one. This is a really good mandolin. Well made, with all the bells and whistles you'd expect on a more expensive instrument. Maple back and sides, spruce top, bound body and neck, great looking inlays and detail. Chrome hardware, decent tuners, and a nice playable neck. It's got a pretty good sound, and decent chop. I replaced the rosewood bridge with one of ebony, and that made quite a difference in the sound. Overall a great value!
