Overview

The Epiphone MM-30S mandolin features a Solid Spruce top that will actually improve in tone over time, a highly-prized trait of better acoustic instruments.

Old world heritage
From its humble 19th Century beginnings in Greece with founder Anastasios Stathopoulo, he and his sons took the turn-of-the-century Manhattan family luthier business into a world-renown fretted instrument maker and innovator. In fact, some of the original "A. Stathopoulo" round-back mandolins are some of the most prized, rare vintage mandolins in existence. In the late 50's, another famous fretted instrument company known for mandolins, Gibson, purchased Epiphone and assured the continuance of the family mandolin legacy.

Time-honored craftsmanship
The Epiphone MM-30S is an easily recognized "A" style or "teardrop" mandolin, expertly constructed with a Mahogany body and set, Mahogany neck, providing warm acoustic tone. The "bite" if the mandolin's sound is from its Solid Spruce top, which will only sound better as it matures, as the wood fibres continue to contract and surplus moisture content eveporates. It also features the traditional floating Rosewood bridge, Rosewood fingerboard, Gold hardware and Tortoise pickguard emblazoned with the iconic Epiphone "E" and comes in Antique Sunburst finish. It is also available with a built-in bridge piezo pickup as the MM-30E.

Backed by the best
The solid-top MM-30S mandolin is protected by the Epiphone Lifetime Limited Warranty featuring Gibson 24/7/360 Customer Service and guarantees the instrument against defects in materials or workmanship. Case sold separately.

I play and own 10 guitars, but wanted something new and interesting that I could sit and play around with in my down time. I had always wanted a mandolin, and began to look around before Christmas for a gift to myself. I had a VERY limited budget and was concerned that I wouldn't be able to get a decent quality instrument for "small change". This mandolin absolutely proved me wrong! The floating bridge install may be daunting for some, but was convenient in intonating properly. I immediately replaced the strings with D'Addario "Ricky Skaggs", removed the pickguard, and sanded the cheesy "E" off the truss rod cover. Once set up it found it's tune and held it quickly. I get a little buzz on the open D, but will work with the adjustments. Fit and finish was quite good for the $, much better than an Epiphone acoustic I paid more for. Sounds great and projects LOUDLY, resonates wonderfully. Easy to play and fret. I like it! Bravo Epiphone, and Chris Maddy at Guitar Center in Dallas.

Don't buy this! We got one for our son for Christmas. At first, it was okay but after one month, it is coming apart! They won't take it back since it's past 30 days and our local guitar repair says it is defective and can't be repaired.

    Fell apart after a month

    By tech135

    Comments about Epiphone MM-30S Mandolin:

I bought an inexpensive instrument to have in my office at work. The instrument fell apart after six weeks. I noticed the height of the strings was getting a little high, and the next day the neck had broken in half. As an instrument repair technician I decided to just throw it away and buy something decent.

    SOLID SOUND

    Comments about Epiphone MM-30S Mandolin:

Yep' as you see the neck and bridge may need a bit of adjustment but so did my $3900.00 Weber. The Epiphone Mandolin has come to be a trusted friend it sounds great. I learned on it and still bring it to gigs as a backup for someone who wants to sit in. I instantly removed the pickguard and it has a beautiful sunburst finish and the a body makes it cut through and stand out

    Comments about Epiphone MM-30S Mandolin:

I purchased this mandolin a few days ago and I am satisfied with not only its aesthetic value(having a beautiful finish and color), but the sound and quality; this instrument resonates very well and the action is not too high like many mandolins I have played.

    Epiphone MM-30

    By Jersey Bill

    Comments about Epiphone MM-30S Mandolin:

Decent beginner mando. What you pay for is what you get. Mine's held up for 3 years of pretty regular playing, though I'd now like to upgrade. Try the Gibson Sam Bush Monel strings on it.

    Good Introductory Instrument

    By Anonymous

    from Undisclosed

    Comments about Epiphone MM-30S Mandolin:

I recently started playing mandolin and I have been very satisfied with the purchase of this one. I had heard rumors that A-style mandolins do not produce the volume that F-style ones produce, but that rumor was quickly dispelled when I played this instrument in the store. The volume is quite high, and it's a solidly produced mandolin. The frets nearest the bridge are a little rattly, but other than that, it's a good mandolin to get started on.
