Overview

Original Wilshire guitars are commanding high prices in today's collectors markets. Epiphone worked hard to bring it back in an affordable guitar that doesn't sacrifice quality, and now this limited edition electric guitar has been further updated with even more pro-features.

The Epiphone Wilshire Pro electric guitar has a double-cutaway mahogany body and set mahogany neck, which joins the body at the 22nd fret, giving you the ultimate in upper-fret access. The Wilshire Pro is lightweight and comfortable, with excellent resonance and natural acoustic tone”even unplugged! Featuring Epiphone's LockTone Tune-O-Matic/stopbar combination, the transfer of string vibration is improved even more, giving this it excellent sustain and clarity.

The neck pickup is Epiphone's Alnico Classic. It provides warm and subtle tone with a full, even response that doesn't hold back when you need that classic humbucker crunch. An Alnico Classic Plus is in the bridge, and is over wound for a slightly higher output”without sacrificing its rich, vintage tone. Both feature Alnico II magnets, enamel wire, and are double vacuum waxed. Each volume control on the Epiphone guitar is a push/pull potentiometer that allows you to coil-split each pickup separately for a more twangy single-coil sound, as well as many other tonal combinations.

The Epiphone Wilshire Pro electric guitar features their own "batwing" headstock. A classic design that improves tuning ease and accuracy by offering a straight string-pull design, the headstock is adorned like the original with the vintage Epiphone logo in gold. Other features include a 1960's SlimTaper neck profile with Rosewood fingerboard, premium 14:1 die-cast tuners, and individual volume and tone controls for each pickup.

I was really amazed with the heavy sound from this fairly lightweight guitar. I am used to a Gibson Les Paul -very weighty. The thin neck profile is way fast, stays in tune very well and the split coils offer many tone combination's. Performing in a cover band, we usually play 4 hour shows. This guitar kept right up with my Gibson. The price is so low you can afford to upgrade it if you like. I installed 496r and 498t humbuckers mainly for a little more volume. But the Epi's sounded great too. Light on the wallet and shoulder... I say definitely try one..I bought it!

Just what I needed!

By Brandon

from Wisconsin

This is an amazing guitar. The best I've owned. The pickups sound great, and handle overdrive very well. I've had some issues with the strings staying in tune, but I'm sure new strings can fix that. I just got my Wilshire about two days ago, and I haven't been able to put it down. The frets are easy to play, and the 12th fret is very easy to reach, due to the design of the neck, similar to the SG. All in all, I'd reccomend this guitar to anyone. And also, the pickup splitting is a VERY nice feature.

By j.tj

This guitar is amazing! I love my little wilshire! The pickup splitting is great! I play all kinds of music, and this guitar gives me all the tone I need for anything! Not to mention, it's really comfortable. It's very light weight and thin and just feels perfectly in your hands! Really want another one now! Great purchase!

Fantastic instrument!

By Gavin Rook

from 83854

First of all i LOVE the color! I brought it home and played from my Peavey Vyper 15 amp, and it sounded great. I bought the show model off the wall and the set up was perfect. This was my first electric guitar i have bought, and i was very pleased with the quality! It says it is a slim neck but mine was not really as slim as they describe. But you get used to it. So overall this guitar is great for such a small price. I highly recommend.

Awesome Guitar

By Jonathan

from Smyrna, GA

I've been playing for a year and a half now. Being lucky, I have a lot of friends whose parents were musicians and have played a few vintage LP's, Strats, Tele's, Jags, SG's and 335's. I myself had an Epiphone Les Paul that had amazing playability. The Wilshire has that comfortable Strat feel, the playability of an SG, and that fat LP tone. The pickups are great for being stock. The neck can crank out great overdriven blues sounds, while the bridge can get some roaring lead tones. The Coil-Split is really useful as it gets you some nice chimey clean sounds. I'm debating on whether to switch them out for some Seymour-Duncans to make this guitar even more versatile. The hardware is pretty good. The knobs work well and don't squeak. The pickup selector and input jack were a little loose, but a quick trip to GC fixed that up for me. This guitar feels and plays like it's a worn-in favorite. I got mine in the Vintage Sunburst and had some older players ask me where i bought my 60's Wilshire. I would gladly replace this if it was ever stolen or damaged. So much guitar for so little cash.

Epi Wilshire LE

By Roger Morton

from St Petersburg, FL

Just picked up a white Wilshire LE today and it is way more than I expected. The neck is fast, set-up/workmanship (nice inlay work) was very good as it came, the hardware is really first rate. The humbuckers are a pleasant surprise in that they are completely useable just as they are. The coil taps on the volume pots really function well and add a whole new world of sound to this instrument. Am I impressed? Is it a 'keeper'? Will I continue to buy Epiphones? Will I say this is definately worth buying? Yes to all of the above. These are certain to sell out...the little 'Custom Shop' imprint on the back is cool too. If you enjoy Gibsons this is one to snatch up fast, it is a really great player with a different range of sounds. Bonus points...it is light as a feather!!!!

I love this guitar!

By Michael

from Sioux Falls SD,

I bought my Wilshire about 2 months ago and it's never had any problems! It'll play anything for death metal and death core to country and sound great! I've used it to preform for shows with my band and it sounds great! The pickups have a really nice sounds to them and the pickup splitting is a really handy feature. It has a nice sharp sound on clean but when you put it on distorion it roars great! I'd recomend this guitar to anyone looking for a GREAT quality guitar at a cheap price. It honestly sounds better than most of the les pauls I've played. It's just a magnificent guitar.

if you love stratocasters

By Brian S

from massapequa ny

this guitar was made to be compitition for the stratocaster, and i love both more then anyother guitar out there. The wilshire isnt your average Epiphone it is almost the best of both worlds between Fender and Epiphone, it has that nice fender feel, retro look and its almost as easy to play as a strat, but yet has that Epi-Gibson sound to it, with the humbuckers. The neck isnt your average les paul one its more like a stratocaster. With all that the difference between it and a stratocaster mainly is that in the thickness this guitar is as thin as it gets, but yet its just enough to sound great. I have found using it in the store doesnt do it full justice and so dont judge harshly when playing it, it has a lot of potential. *one example of the guitar in action is RATATAT the band (who fts in pursuit of happiness by kid cudi) I bought it with the intentions of they are cool and it looks cool, but found out it is truly an awesome guitar that is unheard of like Airline Guitars

Wilshire pro approved by this guy!

By rich smith

from burlington, Iowa

I didn't have time to go up and play it before so I took a chance. When it arrived action and intonation was set great right out of the box. First thing you notice is the color. great looking guitar for any of the selections, i happen to pick the green. Humbuckers are typical epiphone buckers, know matter what people tell you, you can get a great sound from these buckers. Price is fantastic, I would have paid more. Plays like a dream one great guitar. The head stock adds to it's appeal. Solid mahogany body and set mahogany neck, this thing has unbelievable sustain. Tuners are decent grovers. coolest part is the pot for humbucker volume pulls out for single coil use. push it back down humbucker use. totally awesome sound, it makes for a good match with my epiphone les paul standard. plus it weights very little. down fall doesn't sit well with a strap that is it. I run a 150 watt tube head through 4 x cab they notice the look first then the sound. Buy it if you have been looking at it wondering how it sounds.

By Jonah Krull

This guitar is over-all great! #1 Epiphone for that much! Block inlays are a nice touch with the nitrocellulose finish (the sunburst is my personal favorite) and if your talkin tone, these things will knock you out with a black eye! (results may vary! haha) Great control, great tone, great playability, great pri$e!

Best sounding guitar I've ever played

By Mike Mattson

from Saint Joseph, Michigan

I love this thing. The looks, the sound and the endless variety of tone. I love how you can split the humbuckers to single coils, makes for endless amounts of tone. The neck is so comfortable and easy to play, no hand cramping, even after 3 hour long sets. I recommend this to everyone, beginners and seasoned professionals.

HIdden Gem

By Josh Rondeau

from Pelham, NH

I've had my Wilshire for almost five months now, and it has found it's way to being my most played guitar. I've found that this guitar is one of the most versatile guitars I have ever played. It's natural sound is very clear while it researves the ability to punch out of your amp. The ability to switch the humbuckers to single simply coil by pulling up on the volume nobs has proven to be one of the most usefull tools in songwriting. The clarity of the chords being played is never lost trough this guitar. It's perfect for funk, blues, rythem, rock, and Jazz. It however takes very well to distortions and overdrives to fit many other playing styles. I often play blues with it but I found that it function very well with a garage style of playing. It is truly amazing.

Awesome!

By Beverly Acinapuro

from Garden City, NY

Best guitar! I got it in pelham blue and so far I've been nothing but impressed. The pickups are great especially the coil splits. On single coil, they sound kind of like p-90s while on humbucker you get kind of an sg sound.
