Overview

The warm, clear tone of the Riviera electric guitar makes it a perfect instrument for jazz, blues, or country. Its semi-hollow body is crafted of laminated maple. A set mahogany C-shaped neck provides sustain and playing comfort. The 3 Alnico V P-90s produce a fatter, warmer single-coil tone for extra sass while a Bigsby vibrato tailpiece delivers the twang that has been a favorite for decades. Case sold separately.

This guitar is AMAZING for the price! My brother just got it yesterday and I never thought epiphone would make such a nice guitar. This guitar has a thick warm tone on clean, great for blues. But when distorted, it can play from classic rock to punk. For me, this guitar looks really nice, but it's not comfortable to hold on the lap (remember this is my opinion). I have a gibson SG and that feels way better. But, the sound that comes from this guitar is ALOT better than my SG. Sadly, after playing this guitar, my SG sounds thin and whimpy...but it's all in those P-90s! I think I'm going to have to modify my guitar to put in P-90's or at least Duncan P-rails cuz the sound it produces is what I'd LOVE to have. Now as for the bigsby...If you move it just a little bit, the whole guitar would get out of tune. I'd recommend a roller bridge and trem-nut and possibly locking tuners if it continues to get out of tune. But all in all, this guitar is worth the money!

Epiphone claims that the gold tuners are Wilkinson but the gold flaked and wore off my 2011 in a couple of years. None of the gold on the Bigsby or pickups has worn off.
Every Wilkinson tuner that I've ever seen had "Wilkinson" stamped on it.
Epiphone will not replace as that is "normal wear".

Comments about Epiphone Limited Edition Riviera Custom P93 Semi-Hollowbody Electric Guitar:

So you can judge my opinion, I've been a garage band musician since 1963, primarily a decent bass player. That being said, I love this guitar. To start with, I bought the wine red finish with the gold hardware and cream colored binding. It is absolutely beautiful, like a piece of fine furniture. When I was testing it out at the store when I picked it up, it turned every head as they walked by. There is not one significant flaw or blemish. The only insignificant flaw is the Epiphone emblem on the pick guard is half way toward falling off (if it can do that without leaving a mark on the pick guard, that may improve the overall appearance). Every edge is smooth and even, including the bindings, and there are no fret rattles anywhere on the neck.

I am very pleased with the sounds this guitar produces, and the most pleasant surprise is at the pick-up tone and volume settings I want to give me a warm mellow George Benson like sound, the AC hum completely disappears. I don't know if I should be thanking Epiphone or Zach, the technician at the South Austin Guitar Center store for this.

I did my homework before ordering this. I've looked at many different makes and models before deciding on which guitar I wanted to get. I read lots of reviews, and when it came to this particular model, I took the reviews to heart that discussed the difficulty of keeping in tune with the vibrato tailpiece. After reading all the recommendations on the Bigsby web page I ordered the guitar and elected to have it delivered to the store. Then I went into the store and ordered the Schaller Da Vinci locking tuners, a Schaller roller bridge (both available in gold finish), and a low friction nut. These were going to be installed before I picked up the instrument.

I asked "do everything you would do if Joe Pass came in and wanted the guitar set up perfectly". That is what I got. This is an exceptional guitar for any price.

Comments about Epiphone Limited Edition Riviera Custom P93 Semi-Hollowbody Electric Guitar:

Yup it is that good. I am a novice. I started learning when I was a teen ager and that was multiple Presidents ago. I put it down due to life as they say. Well I am older and wanted to commit to it finally. I went into my local GC in Katy, TX when I saw that it had FINALLY come to a store near me, had been watching online for it for months. I spoke to a gentleman named Gary at that GC in Katy. The man KNOWS his stuff and is GREAT at customer service. He helped with this guitar and I was blown away at the sound this thing produced. It is comfortable to play and the action was nice out of the box. The look of the Guitar was also amazing. The Wine Red with the gold hardware just gave the instrument a classy look. Would have loved if the headstock was also bound but that is just me.There are a couple of things that I am looking to change. The tuners for one, a Bigsby can go out of tune and I have found that out first hand so I am looking at a minimum getting a TUSQ Nut from GC to help and then locking tuners. It isn't something that happens all the time but I have noticed it from time to time. I won't take anything off of it because I mod EVERYTHING I own that I can. The wife won't let me mod the car, the kid or the dog. Still as a Novice this is a GREAT guitar, great finish, REALLY versatile though I don't recommend it for Metal. It is, simply put a GREAT guitar.

Guitarist and Guitar Center associate Dan Wall recommended the Riviera. As I'm still learning how to play Dan demonstrated the beautiful sounds and I was hooked. When I took it home and began practicing my lessons from my instructor Cosmo Wong I was finally able to do bar chords! Something I wasn't able to do with two other guitars in my collection. The red finish, and gold accents really make it a work of art. My first hollow body which I really enjoy playing.

Comments about Epiphone Limited Edition Riviera Custom P93 Semi-Hollowbody Electric Guitar:

First and foremost it was not by coincidence or spur of the moment that I bought guitar. I looked for months after staring at it online to find one that I could try out. I'm not a fan of buying a guitar online because you can't feel it or play it but you have to solely base it on it's looks. So after finding one in a store 100 miles away I went to take a look. The guy that helped me was awesome, he took me back to the sound room were they had the expensive tube combo amps and let me jam away and even grabbed another guitar and jammed along with me. The guitar was amazing, it played well had nice action and was suprisingly set up well as I've heard most of them are not. By the way the pictures online do not do this guitar justice. The way this thing changes in the light is just insane, It can go from this dark red that almost looks black to a vibrant red. A great thing about this guitar as well is that you can play it acoustically, hear it well enough in one room but not so loud that you would wake everyone up when your family is asleep, Then plug it in and get a wide variety of amazing sounds. I personally use a 30w marshall combo and the riviera p93 sounds amazing pared with it. Epiphone hit a home run with this guitar the only thing that Im going to change in the future is the bridge from the tune-o-matic to a roller bridge which will help keep it in tune when using the bigby.

Comments about Epiphone Limited Edition Riviera Custom P93 Semi-Hollowbody Electric Guitar:

I purchased mine used after an intense search finally found my Pearl White at G/C in another state. When it arrived I was in awe. It showed up in a beautiful TKL case for starters and the guitar was in mint condition. Sounded beautiful. Yes, the p/ups are not humbuckers but I knew that when I bought it so I was expecting a different sound than my LP and my Strats. I was very pleased with the sound the P90 puts forth. Rock, Blues or Jazz. The only negative I will say is that because they are P90 P/ups you can only lower the action so much. That is what took me some getting used to. Overall I am very pleased with the guitar and may just have to purchase this Burgundy and gold because it's just a perfect set of colors and sure to be on Epiphones out of production list soon as is my Pearl White and the Black and Gold. Great Guitar

            Has A Niche

            By Robert

Comments about Epiphone Limited Edition Riviera Custom P93 Semi-Hollowbody Electric Guitar:

While looking for another Epi Semi-Hollow, which my GC didn't have in stock, I found this guitar on sale. First that struck me about this guitar was it's subtly toned looks. The finish was amazing, and the golden Bigsby just drew me in. When I toyed around with it on an amp the first thing I noticed was the complicated pickups. There were 3 volume controls and one tone, and if you left the middle tone on it would sort of dominate the other two. At first this was somewhat discouraging, but I found that the neck and bridge pickups by themselves and with each other really appealed to me. Seriously: if you play with this guitar, turn off the middle pickup and enjoy the other two! It is definitely NOT the brightest guitar, but running through my Mustang III has done worlds to bring out the best in this guitar. It has a very nice growl to it, loads of low to mid end kick. On the bridge pickup with the tone at ten is the brightest setting, which I've hear nightmare stories about them having poor workmanship, so I think I must have struck gold in finding one with no mistakes as far as I can tell. There were no cracks, chips, imperfections, nada. The finish is amazing, the neck is thick but comfortable with plenty of finger room. The Bigsby holds its tune pretty well once the strings are broken in, and it's become somewhat of an addiction for me to use this. The biggest turnoffs to this guitar for many players are the weight (this sucker packs some pounds) and the pickup system. But under the right setting, the richness of this guitar's tone can't be missed. It is a very reliable guitar and, at the very least for cynics, is a marvelous bit of wall-candy in wind red. It's just about to become some album art in my bands EP, and I dared not record a single song on it without this guitar!

The Riviera is an awesome guitar, the neck is a little thicker than what I'm used to on my Epi LP, but I still think it's a great deal and a good buy! And like all Epiphones (with the exception of the new probuckers), great guitars with mediocre pickups just begging to be replaced.

Comments about Epiphone Limited Edition Riviera Custom P93 Semi-Hollowbody Electric Guitar:

I ordered the gold finish because you don't see very many people weilding a gold top riviera. The picture doesn't do this guitar any justice so I was very surprised. The three p90s can get somewhat aggressive sounds out of the bridge pickup and also nice jazz tones from the neck pickup and if you throw in the middle pickup it sounds even better. Its not the best guitar for rock stuff but it does alright. I've had this guitar for about 8 months and so far it still sounds and looks amazing, with the exception of a few scratches that were my fault. This guitar is very bulky and a little on the heavy side but all semi-hollows are like that.the neck is awesome, nice and smooth, and the frets were not sharp at all. Bottom line: this is an awesome guitar for all music genres (except metal).

Comments about Epiphone Limited Edition Riviera Custom P93 Semi-Hollowbody Electric Guitar:

For the price, I am pretty impressed with my particular guitar's set-up and sound/quality. Yes one or more of your knobs may be a bit crooked, and the input jack should be treated with instrument glue (a 30 second process), but the result of this model is a guitar that sounds like anything twice it's price. Great retro sound from the Alnico P-90's, works well with fuzz and has a great clean sound, the Bigsby is fantastic. Comfortable neck, sounds great unplugged or amp'd up. No fret buzz on mine, no dead spots, nice set-up by the American employees. That said, I strongly recommend trying out one in person first, there are lemons out there, find a good one or have GC set it up and glue the input jack for you, this model is so worth it. Finally, the P-90's are not very "bright," and stay on the low end, but, I get no feedback or noise from them at all, they are QUALITY pick-ups. Very nice clean sound and a great retro-fuzz and overdrive tone. The sound is very warm and smooth, which works great for me as a compliment to my Les Paul. Really impressed with this one, it's a lot of fun to play, and is definitely "gig and recording worthy."
