This guitar is AMAZING for the price! My brother just got it yesterday and I never thought epiphone would make such a nice guitar. This guitar has a thick warm tone on clean, great for blues. But when distorted, it can play from classic rock to punk. For me, this guitar looks really nice, but it's not comfortable to hold on the lap (remember this is my opinion). I have a gibson SG and that feels way better. But, the sound that comes from this guitar is ALOT better than my SG. Sadly, after playing this guitar, my SG sounds thin and whimpy...but it's all in those P-90s! I think I'm going to have to modify my guitar to put in P-90's or at least Duncan P-rails cuz the sound it produces is what I'd LOVE to have. Now as for the bigsby...If you move it just a little bit, the whole guitar would get out of tune. I'd recommend a roller bridge and trem-nut and possibly locking tuners if it continues to get out of tune. But all in all, this guitar is worth the money!

Epiphone claims that the gold tuners are Wilkinson but the gold flaked and wore off my 2011 in a couple of years. None of the gold on the Bigsby or pickups has worn off.
Every Wilkinson tuner that I've ever seen had "Wilkinson" stamped on it.
Epiphone will not replace as that is "normal wear".

Excellent

By Mike Kreitzer

Comments about Epiphone Limited Edition Riviera Custom P93 Semi-Hollowbody Electric Guitar:

Once again the Folks at Epiphone have proven themselves. This is the third Epi 335 series I've owned and it's one of the best. Right out of the box I was stunned. I thought I would have to get it adjusted but the set up was perfect. Deep rich color! Nice gold hardware. And of course it had that classic PAF tone. The tail piece gives a heavy solid feel to it. Yes it's true that once you use the tremelo you will go out of tune but I don't ever plan on using it. To me the gold Bigsby was the selling point. It's purely cosmetic and that's why I love the look. The only thing I want to do is change the tuning keys because they are too small for me. I actually thought about changing the pickups also but after playing with it a few hours I see no reason for it. I know it was made in China but we are going to have to face reality these days. Compared to a Gibson this is one perfect guitar to take out of the house for late night gigs. My hat goes off to the guys and gals at Epiphone again!.

perfect....don't think twice about buying this - get it now!

By Jonathan

Comments about Epiphone Limited Edition Riviera Custom P93 Semi-Hollowbody Electric Guitar:

I'm not kidding when I say that I literally unpacked this guitar from the Epiphone box, plugged it in, and haven't even changed the strings yet. This guitar should easily be selling for three times the price. Grab one while you can. So many amazing tones through the p-90s. I play it through my tweed Peavey Classic 30 and man is it LOUD! The Bigsby is a nice touch. I like the how the added weight of it provides extra depth in the sound but doesn't unbalance the guitars weight. And overall the thing is amazingly light but doesn't feel like I'm going to break it. I've layed into it pretty well and it just feels "right"!! Don't think twice. Thinking of getting a Gibson - save yourself some heartache and cash and snatch one of these up while they're still around. Amazing.

More Than Pleased

By Rick

Comments about Epiphone Limited Edition Riviera Custom P93 Semi-Hollowbody Electric Guitar:

I've been dedicated to playing Fender Strats for 35 years until I ran across an ad for the Epiphone Riviera. When I saw it I just had to go down and try one out. Needless to say I walked out the door with one in hand. CONS: I hated the strings that came on it from the factory I changed them out the 2nd day. I had a little fret rattle on the high end of the neck. It wasn't bad and only took the Tech about 10 minutes to fix the problem. The volume and tone control knobs are not as linear as most guitars but you can live with it. I have read the pots can be switched out but they are a very close fit and have to come out through the F-holes. PROS: Appearences is excellent, rave reviews from my peers when I play in public. Sound quality is superb. Neck is easy to play on although a little fatter than the Strat. Overall I find myself playing my Riviera more than I play my Strat. It's an awesome guitar for those wanting a 2nd guitar and a different sound

It just rocks...

By Ty

Comments about Epiphone Limited Edition Riviera Custom P93 Semi-Hollowbody Electric Guitar:

I've owned a Gibson Les Paul for two years but wanted to get a semi-hollow. Seeing Gibson's prices, the Riviera came to my eyes. I immediately ordered this with high hopes, and I do not regret it. This guitar is well worth it's price if not more. Whether it's BB King's melodic soloes or Malcolm Young's driving rhythms, the P-90s definately get the job done. I still can't believe it... And the absolute beauty of this guitar only complements it's power. I do have to say that it does have some intonation problems (but easily fixed) and the Bigsby doesn't hold tune very well, but this guitar is a definate MUST for the price.

Good but lacks quality

By Mike

from Michigan

Comments about Epiphone Limited Edition Riviera Custom P93 Semi-Hollowbody Electric Guitar:

Looks wise this guitar kills, the Bigsby is an excellent touch also. Tonally this guitar isn't very good though. It lacks versatility because of the way the selector switch works. It also lacks a lot of treble so unless you want your sound to be really muddied, expect to play it on the bridge pickup all the time. My other complaint about this guitar is the workmanship. It's really fragile so it's definitely not a good gigging guitar. On the one that i owned, the jack kept falling inside the body and after this happened four times in two days and having to spend at least 30 minutes digging it out every time, i decided it wasn't worth it anymore and took it back. FINAL OPINION: Don't be tempted by the looks of this guitar, even though it's sort of low on the price scale as guitars go, it's not even worth what you'd be paying. Save $100 more and get something that'll satisfy and is built to last.

Worth It

By Waldo

from Elmhurst, IL

Comments about Epiphone Limited Edition Riviera Custom P93 Semi-Hollowbody Electric Guitar:

This guitar can really pack a punch when used right. PROS: Superb sound. Bigsby doesn't trash your tuning as much as I worried it would as long as you are not going crazy. MId-weight and very comfortable both standing and sitting. Changing the action is a breeze and requires no tools. A 5-ish foot cable was included. The free case was a big help and money saver. CONS: The body's colour was a lot brighter and lacked the darker edges; solid red for me. The plastic pick guard seems really cheap. The neck is extremely touchy so you can't put much pull or push on it without noticeably bending the pitch. It doesn't hold the tuning as much as I hoped. The price seems very reasonable. Doesn't play above and beyond $1000 guitars but great for the price. I would advise stopping in at your nearest guitar vender and trying out similar products seeing its online only but I am glad I bought this guitar.

Comments about Epiphone Limited Edition Riviera Custom P93 Semi-Hollowbody Electric Guitar:

So you can judge my opinion, I've been a garage band musician since 1963, primarily a decent bass player. That being said, I love this guitar. To start with, I bought the wine red finish with the gold hardware and cream colored binding. It is absolutely beautiful, like a piece of fine furniture. When I was testing it out at the store when I picked it up, it turned every head as they walked by. There is not one significant flaw or blemish. The only insignificant flaw is the Epiphone emblem on the pick guard is half way toward falling off (if it can do that without leaving a mark on the pick guard, that may improve the overall appearance). Every edge is smooth and even, including the bindings, and there are no fret rattles anywhere on the neck.

I am very pleased with the sounds this guitar produces, and the most pleasant surprise is at the pick-up tone and volume settings I want to give me a warm mellow George Benson like sound, the AC hum completely disappears. I don't know if I should be thanking Epiphone or Zach, the technician at the South Austin Guitar Center store for this.

I did my homework before ordering this. I've looked at many different makes and models before deciding on which guitar I wanted to get. I read lots of reviews, and when it came to this particular model, I took the reviews to heart that discussed the difficulty of keeping in tune with the vibrato tailpiece. After reading all the recommendations on the Bigsby web page I ordered the guitar and elected to have it delivered to the store. Then I went into the store and ordered the Schaller Da Vinci locking tuners, a Schaller roller bridge (both available in gold finish), and a low friction nut. These were going to be installed before I picked up the instrument.

I asked "do everything you would do if Joe Pass came in and wanted the guitar set up perfectly". That is what I got. This is an exceptional guitar for any price.

    Pretty Color- Nice Finish

    By Danny Mathis

    from Florida

Comments about Epiphone Limited Edition Riviera Custom P93 Semi-Hollowbody Electric Guitar:

I received my Riviera a few days ago. I've been playing it and can't decide if I like it or not. With 3 p/ups, it definitely is different. The middle p/up stays louder than the other two no matter what position the switch is in. I also expected the P90's to sound better than they do. Must be the difference between Gibson & Epi! Big disappointment tonight though! One of my friends was over & playing it & noticed the neck was cracked on both sides at the nut! I don't know how I missed it. The box it was shipped in doesn't show any signs of damage. I'll take it to the store here & get something else. Maybe the Epi Swingster! Good Luck with whatever Guitar you choose. Just check it closely.

Epiphone Limited Edition Riviera Custom P93

    By Squier Red

    from Raleigh Durham N.C.

Comments about Epiphone Limited Edition Riviera Custom P93 Semi-Hollowbody Electric Guitar:

This is the deal to beat! This is one great sounding guitar for those who can tweak it. I had to lower the strings, easy enough and raised the poles on the pickups and I had on mean Blues machine. All the positions are good sounding, although I love the toggle switch up which is neck/middle pickups. You can lower the middle pickup volume and the toggle switch acts like a standard two pickup Riviera. Sustain is great and no feedback due to the solid block center. Finish and appearance is stunning! Limited Edition and I have one and I'm not selling it. It is pure Mojo!I will put up videos soon on my websites!

    AMAZING guitar

    By Todd

    from Fort Collins, CO

Comments about Epiphone Limited Edition Riviera Custom P93 Semi-Hollowbody Electric Guitar:

This is an absolutely amazing and gorgeous guitar. John Lennon would have been proud, as the Riviera was his choice guitar. I have been looking for a good quality hollow body now for about three or four months, and though I looked at possibly three hundred hollow body guitars, nothing ever truly caught my eye until I saw the P93. The moment I saw it, not to mention plugging it in and hearing that amazing tone that only a good quality hollow body can provide, I instantly knew this was my guitar. My guitar playing friends all commented on how attractive the guitar is, and mentioned how unique it is.

Comments about Epiphone Limited Edition Riviera Custom P93 Semi-Hollowbody Electric Guitar:

First and foremost it was not by coincidence or spur of the moment that I bought guitar. I looked for months after staring at it online to find one that I could try out. I'm not a fan of buying a guitar online because you can't feel it or play it but you have to solely base it on it's looks. So after finding one in a store 100 miles away I went to take a look. The guy that helped me was awesome, he took me back to the sound room were they had the expensive tube combo amps and let me jam away and even grabbed another guitar and jammed along with me. The guitar was amazing, it played well had nice action and was suprisingly set up well as I've heard most of them are not. By the way the pictures online do not do this guitar justice. The way this thing changes in the light is just insane, It can go from this dark red that almost looks black to a vibrant red. A great thing about this guitar as well is that you can play it acoustically, hear it well enough in one room but not so loud that you would wake everyone up when your family is asleep, Then plug it in and get a wide variety of amazing sounds. I personally use a 30w marshall combo and the riviera p93 sounds amazing pared with it. Epiphone hit a home run with this guitar the only thing that Im going to change in the future is the bridge from the tune-o-matic to a roller bridge which will help keep it in tune when using the bigby.

Comments about Epiphone Limited Edition Riviera Custom P93 Semi-Hollowbody Electric Guitar:

I've been playing for a year and this is my third guitar. I also own a Fender Telecaster and an Ibanez acoustic. This guitar is really easy to play. The neck isn't too fat, it's very comfortable to play, and I have smaller hands. It looks AWESOME. Don't think about buying this guitar, just do it, trust me. Only thing I have to complain about is about after a half hour of playing it, the instrument cable jack fell into the guitar... I got it out with a magnetic screwdriver. what a pain. This guitar plays perfectly though. Sounds good for a wide variety of music. I play anything from Miley Cyrus and Jonas Brothers to AC/DC, Led Zeppelin, the Beatles, RHCP, and even indie music. Just an aswesome guitar for the price... good quality.

Amazing stuff Epiphone has been doing...

    By Patrick Jansen

Comments about Epiphone Limited Edition Riviera Custom P93 Semi-Hollowbody Electric Guitar:

So I ordered this guitar a week ago at gc. Was home sick from school, so naturally, I went on the web and did my research. So from what I can tell, people are raving about the color, price, bigsby, and pickups. People don't like that the color is different than they thought, more of a lighter red, the plastic nut, and the tuners, and a couple people say that the roller bridge doesn't do much. I, personally, love the sound of these pickups. I'm in my schools jazz band, and when I plugged this into my Hot rod deluxe ltd ed (python), the band directors jaw hit the floor. It's very impressive. One of my favorite features is the three way switching with three volume knobs. It reminds me of my fox ayers strat with 7-way pickups, but better, seeing as how I can blend picups to for seperate combinations. Overall, I think this is a great guitar for the price, and for any price really. Get your hands on one before they run out again, though!

Comments about Epiphone Limited Edition Riviera Custom P93 Semi-Hollowbody Electric Guitar:

Quality: I've played this guitar for 2 years without any "problems." Appearance: It is a beautiful looking guitar in the Gibson ES-335 image Value: For $500 you can't beat the value for what you get. Sound: For a Chinese made guitar Epi has kept a very "Gibson" sound. I am impressed with the electronics on this guitar. Finish: The finish and craftsmanship on this guitar are near perfect. Feel: If you like a narrow neck then this is the one for you. Smooth feel for a rosewood. You may want to adjust it though. Features: The gold hardware and the Bigsby give the axe a very "pro" look to it. I see used Bigsbys on eBay for $300 !! Dislike: Epi has chose to have this great instrument made in China. I wrote a letter of complaint to the CEO. America needs to employ Americans. Epi "used to."
