Overview

Epiphone introduces the new Les Paul Traditional PRO-II featuring the ultimate combo of Alnico Classic PRO and ProBucker humbuckers with coil-splitting for an incredible range of tones. Plus a 15 dB boost switch along with new color finishes.

Epiphone and Mr. Les Paul
The idea for the “Les Paul” guitar was born at Epiphone and Les’ spirit of innovation still inspires us everyday. Epiphone’s long friendship with Mr. Les Paul dates back to 1940 when Les, working after-hours at the original Epiphone factory in Manhattan, created one of the world’s first solid body electric guitars which he nicknamed “The Log”.

It wasn’t long before “The Log” evolved into the legendary Les Paul. And over the years, Les continued to work closely with Epiphone reviewing new products and offering suggestions, often doing his own mods at home. The new Epiphone Les Paul Traditional PRO-II combines the best of Les’ original design with an array of modern features Les himself might have made.

Classic Les Paul Styling…with a Twist
The new Les Paul Traditional PRO-II has the classic build and profile of all Les Pauls with a solid mahogany body and a traditional carved top. New color finishes include Ebony, Desertburst, Ocean Blue, Vintage Sunburst and Wine Red. The solid mahogany neck has a 1960's SlimTaper “D” profile with a 24.75 in. scale and is hand-fitted and glued into the body so the entire guitar resonates as a single piece of wood. A "worn" type finish on the back of the neck and body add to the lived-in feel. The neck has a rosewood fingerboard with 22 medium jumbo frets, single-ply cream binding, and mother-of-pearl trapezoid inlays.

Alnico Classic PRO and ProBucker Humbuckers - Plus Coil Splitting and Boost
The Les Paul Traditional PRO-II is powered by Epiphone’s most popular humbuckers featuring newly tooled, USA-style bobbins. In the neck position is an Alnico Classic PRO with Alnico-II magnets with open zebra coils for a warm, thick, vintage tone. The Alnico Classic PRO is paired with an Epiphone ProBucker-3 at the bridge. The ProBucker-3 is inspired by Gibson's classic BurstBucker-3 and features unevenly wound coils and Alnico-II magnets that replicate the tone of "Patent Applied For" humbuckers found in priceless vintage, '50s-era Les Pauls.

Controls use classic “Top Hat” Volume and Tone knobs which have push/pull potentiometers allowing you to coil-split each pickup for single-coil sounds. Combined with the 3-way toggle, you can get six unique sounds from one great Les Paul guitar.  You can also pull up on the bridge pickup’s tone knob for an additional 15 dB boost. The active Boost control is powered by a 9-volt battery, which is easily accessible at the back of body.

All-Metal Hardware
The Les Paul Traditional PRO-II comes with legendary Grover machine heads with an 18:1 tuning ratio, a traditional cream colored pickguard, solid nickel LockTone Tune-O-Matic bridge and stopbar tailpiece, and Epiphone StrapLocks. An optional case is also available.

Lifetime Warranty
Like all Epiphones, the Les Paul Traditional PRO-II comes with a Limited Lifetime Warranty and is backed by world-famous 24/7/365 Gibson Customer Service.

I was looking to unload 2 guitars for a Gibson Les Paul when I stumbled upon this beauty. The feel of a natural neck, and the sound of the humbuckers along with coil-splitting, and the boost feature was just too much to pass up. So many options in playing this guitar. You can play jazz to shredding. Joe Pass to Led Zeppelin. And the look is just classic. I was very happily surprised on the workmanship of this guitar. Epiphone knows what it's doing with their factories. I love my Ocean Blue Les Paul.

Nice guitar

By The Aaron Xperience

Comments about Epiphone Limited Edition Les Paul Traditional PRO-II Electric Guitar:

I was impressed with the color (Ocean Blue) and the features like the coil splitting and boost. The pickups sound great and with the active boost are great for pinch harmonics. The "worn" finish on the neck is a unique touch to the guitar as well. This is my 4th Epiphone Les Paul (Custom and two Standards) and by far my favorite. Great guitar at a great price.

Comments about Epiphone Limited Edition Les Paul Traditional PRO-II Electric Guitar:

This is my first review written on any product. I have been playing professionally for many years I play Reggae Rock so I needed something very versatile and had been searching for a long time and went through Les Paul Customs, Standards, Fenders , Esp etc. you name it and ive Played it or owned it .......I was not in the market for an Epiphone because every one I had played in the past was just not up to par ,however it seems like in 2016 they REALLY got it together I purchased the Ocean Blue Burst and it is hands down the best instrument I have played HOWEVER if you are looking for a thin neck like an Ibanez or something this is NOT it , for some reason its listed as a "slim taper D" profile but there is nothing slim about it , and that's one of the reasons that I absolutely love this guitar it all comes down to preference of coucourse but I find this guitar to play extremely smooth and comfortable, the back has a sort of matt finish or "worn in feel" and is great for playing long hours and pros doing multiple gigs a week , for the longest time I loved thin necks and could never figure out the hand fatigue and cramps until i switched over to thicker neck profiles ......the pickups are just fine , usually the first thing i do to most guitars is install pickups or upgrade tuners but this guitar doesn't need it at all , the grover tuners are solid and the split coils option on clean sounds beautiful through a nice tube amp (or solid state if that's your thing) pinch harmonics and heavy chugging is no problem either with the humbuckers , needles to say I won't be changing anything on the guitar and would HIGHLY recommend this instrument to anyone who likes thick neck profiles and the versatility to have the Gibson tone and almost a fender type sound with the push of a button
I have played Gibsons that cost thousands that play nowhere near as good as this , the setup and intonation was spot on so there was no need for a setup or fret leveling
          EXCELLENT GUITAR! !!

Comments about Epiphone Limited Edition Les Paul Traditional PRO-II Electric Guitar:

I purchased this guitar back in November of 2016 and I still get that warm fuzzy feeling when I open the case and see my beauty shimmering in the lights. When you plug her in, she will make you cry tears of joy that you get to have tone/power like this without blowing your kids college money on her. Best LP I could ask for, especially at this price. The neck feels comfortable and is so smooth, theactive boost is adjustable in the back of the guitar, you can use less boost if you need to or crank it up for full 15dB of boost. Grover locking machine heads (18:1) keeps her in tune forever. The pickups are good, no need to change unless you really feel like it. Go get one.

Comments about Epiphone Limited Edition Les Paul Traditional PRO-II Electric Guitar:

I just got my desert burst version of this beauty, and it sounds absolutely amazing. The guitar is pieced together nicely, and I haven't noticed any sort of mechanical failures yet. I love the 15db BOOST, it adds a nice kick to the sound and also helps make it louder. I definitely love the natural desert burst they put on it. It looks more vintage, but if you are someone who wants a different model of the les paul, but with the same color, know that it is a different desert burst than what is featured on other models. Mine looks just like the pictures posted on here.

Just got the Ocean Blue Burst and not only beautiful but easy to play up and down the neck. It allows me to get the exact tone I was looking for through a Fender Mustang III V2. Initially got static when plugged in but when I took to the Guitar Center Tech, he said to make sure the plug is pushed all the way in as it wants to stop just short. The connection is tight which is a good thing so no complaints on the jack. Also, two items you cannot find on the Epiphone website, you can take the rear cover off the pots and adjust the wheel on the boost to lower or increase the DB from 0 to 15 DB so very helpful to know. Also, the Tech said to not leave plugged in for long periods when not playing as it will drain the 9-volt battery so I always unplug when not in use. Can't say enough good things about either the guitar or the Guitar Center Tech whose name is Zack. He is a walking encyclopedia of knowledge which is so helpful whether on new or existing equipment!

Amateur player. Just play for myself to relax. Been playing fender strats and g&l fallout. Was looking for a Les Paul to play more late 60s blues rock - think Zepplin. Play my Vintage Burst Epiphone LP through a Marshall MG15CGX - totally awesome!! This guitar is such a great price and so much fun to play. If you are looking for a Les Paul without breaking the budget get this guitar. I think it would be able to hold its own against a much more expensive Gibson too.

Comments about Epiphone Limited Edition Les Paul Traditional PRO-II Electric Guitar:

I have been wanting to add a quality LP to my collection, without having to spend the big $$. I have never owned a Gibson, so I can't say if it plays and sounds just as good."Probably not." But it does have a nice feel, not too heavy like some of the older non Gibson Les Pauls that I've owned, and the action seemed decent out of the box. The coil tapping is a nice feature, and overall it's a beautiful looking guitar. My other guitar is a HSS Mexican fender Strat, which I feel is still a better guitar, but I can't say that I regret buying this one. It's a solid guitar with plenty of deep rich tone and is hard to put down.

Comments about Epiphone Limited Edition Les Paul Traditional PRO-II Electric Guitar:

From a price standpoint, when you compare it to a Gibson Les Paul Traditional Pro, it's a no-brainer. I was always a Fender Strat guy but wanted a Les Paul after playing a few of them....... Different feel and different sound from the LP'S. I went into Guitar Centers with then intention of buying a Gibson Les Paul but ended up with the Epiphone Les Paul Traditional Pro II. I found the Epi LP lighter in weight than the Gibson, and sounding very close as well. For the price what Adam from GC in Canton MI gave it to me for..... I would have bought 4 of the Epi's with generic cases for the price of one Gibson LP. I'm SOLD on the Epiphone Les Paul.........

I played a whole bunch of gibsons in Guitar Center, new and used, ranging in price from $800-$1500. I was disappointed in every one. Then I picked up this epiphone and was blown away. I cannot believe how versatile the guitar is with these single-coil switches and pickup booster. I took the guitar to have professionally set up before i even took it out of the box. When I got it back I have played it all day and it has not gone out of tune at all. I cannot imagine loving a $2500 gibson les paul more than I love this guitar. Just playing it unamplified sounds amazing. I have a gig in a couple of weeks and I plan to promote this guitar over my strat and tele as the go-to axe. I'll report back.

Im not a fan of split coil pick ups, so when i tried this Epiphone model i was more focused on the sound i could obtain from the humbuckers and it didn't disappoint, full range of tone, the lows are strong without being muddy and the highs come in crisp and clear, the neck is really easy to play, also the 15 db boost is a great addition, ive owned a LP custom for over 20 years and this LP Traditional is becoming my favorite, a solid guitar in every sense of the word

What a wonderful instrument. Knobs, switches and tuners are tight. Looks great and stays in tune. Set up was incredibly good right out of the box. Frets are smooth. Very happy!

Fell in love with the '50 Style Neck

Comments about Epiphone Limited Edition Les Paul Traditional PRO-II Electric Guitar:

First off i own 2 Gibson Les Pauls and ESP Eclipse with active pickups. Before i bought this guitar i was strictly '60 style neck profile. Thin/slim necks is what i thought was the ultimate in comfort and speed. I bought this guitar because it said it had the slim '60's neck. However, turned it was a chunky rounded '50s style. HOWEVER, after playing this guitar for a while i fell in love with this neck feel. I used this guitar as a beater practice and its awesome. Anyone who is considering not getting this guitar because of the neck profile, i want you to know that once you play this guitar for a while i bet you will be a convert too. In fact i went back to Guitar Center and tried other Gibsons with '50 style necks and i gotta say i love them as well. So now because of this guitar i can enjoy and play both styles of neck.

Thats not all ... when i got this guitar it needed no fret work.I was able to set it up with really low action, how i like it without any fretbuzz. The guitar stays in tune for ages even with big bends.

Thats not all ... one of my favorite features on this guitar is the boost switch. Once i cratch that baby up it basically sounds better than my EMG active pickups on ESP Eclipse. I was blown away i can get the most perfect Djent sounds using this feature wow! Love it!

Thats not all because the guitar back and neck is not lacquered like most Ephiphone/Gibsons it basically adds to the speed of the neck. Very easy to slide up and down.

Overall this guitar is a beast. I use and gently abuse it during practice and it can take it all without any issues. I would highly recommend this guitar to anyone. Super versatile.

Humbuckers sound very smooth on clean channel great for blues and pick up boost is great for heavier distortion / metal sound.

Added a Les Paul to my collection

Comments about Epiphone Limited Edition Les Paul Traditional PRO-II Electric Guitar:

I recently was in a pawn shop recently and stumbled upon a Epiphone Les Paul Custom, it was white with gold hardware. This guitar had seen better days, so I passed. Also, the pawn shop was asking way too much for it. Since seeing that guitar in the pawn shop I was wanting to add a Les Paul to my collection. I have never had an Epiphone or Gibson before. I mainly have Fenders ( Strats, Tele, and Jazzmaster) and a Ibanez hollow-body in my collection as well a various acoustics (Taylor, Takamine, Alvarez), so I thought a LP would be nice and different. I did some research and came across the LP Trad. Pro II. It seemed to have all the features I liked: Mahogany body and neck, coil splitting, 15db boost. It has a lot of features for the money. I got the guitar on sale from GC during a Black Friday sale so it essentially was a no brainer and I could not pass up this deal. It was not that much more than the one in the pawn shop. I got one in Dessert Burst, and I must say it is a EXTREMELY good looking guitar. I like the Dessert Burst much more than the other color options. Coming from Fender guitars the LP was noticeably heavier and took a while to get used to. It's good it came with strap locks, because I can see how it can come loose from the strap. Also, the neck is quite different. Not worse or better, just different. It was comfortable although a bit thicker but nothing I won't be able to get used to. The sound is great, again not better or worse than what I'm used to. I can see the draw to LP style guitars. I know it will definitely have a use for those times a single coil sound won't cut it. The build quality is superb; nice and tidy. The neck didn't have any rough frets. It played real nice right out of the box. If you're in the market for something different from Fender, give the Les Paul a try. I think the Epiphone is a great way to get your toes wet in the world of Les Paul's.

This guitar was back ordered and when it finally shipped I was excited. But upon arrival there were some defects. Volume and tone knobs fell off and would not stay on. Excess glue at neck body joint. Nut width slightly shorter than neck width. Contacted Gibson the day I received the guitar. The Gibson CSR told me to pry open the knob shaft with a screwdriver for a tighter fit. I said I wasn't comfortable doing that plus there were the other pre-existing defects. Gibson refused to issue a return authorization. Gibson instructed me to take the guitar to a service center for repair under warranty despite it being shipped it in that condition.
Terrible customer service in my opinion.

I walked into my GC to try out a few hollowbodies I had my eye on, and I walked out with this. It was during their President's Day sale and was marked down considerably. Had it not been on sale I probably wouldn't have picked it up, but had I picked it up at full price I absolutely would have walked out with it at that price. The natural finish on the back and neck feels fantastic and makes it easier and more enjoyable to play. I run through guitars, buying and selling 9 in my 10 years of playing. Standard polyurethane gloss finishing on guitars made now means to me that each mid-range guitar is essentially replaceable. The natural finish on this one will wear and age naturally and will make each guitar unique. Unique enough that I don't see myself ever getting rid of this one. My next guitar is going to be this model in another color before they decide to stop producing natural finished guitars.

The coil taps make a difference but not a huge tonal difference. The dB boost is there, but will destroy your clean tone if you use it for that for some reason? And bending beyond two semitones turns tuning sideways pretty quickly, but the pickups are quality and the guitar really does feel great to play.

Comments about Epiphone Limited Edition Les Paul Traditional PRO-II Electric Guitar:

I'm super pleased with the Epiphone LE LP Traditional PRO-II. To my happy surprise, the setup was perfect right out of the box. The frets were polished and level, and the neck is as straight as they come. I know that sometimes it's luck of the draw when buying a guitar over the internet, but this one came already as good as I've paid $100 + for fret leveling, etc... It plays as good or better than guitars I own at many times the price!

This model comes with pickups that sound a little brighter than expected for a Les Paul. That makes this my all time favorite, as I like to play fairly clean with just a touch of overdrive. The pickup combination is the best I've heard at any price. Whether used separately or in combination, they're a match made in heaven! The reason I first became interested in this model was the combination of the alnico classic pro in the neck, along with the probucker 3 in the bridge position, both with alnico II magnets. No reason for a pickup upgrade... ever. In addition, the split coils are done right. The single coil split is loud enough to actually use, not to mention the additional boost available.

The support I had from the St. Louis Guitar Center on Watson Rd was stellar for several reasons, but mainly due to the expert advice and service by Eddy the guitar tech. I originally drove up to buy it at the store, but they'd sold out by the time I got there. Bought it online, and all good from then on. In closing, I certainly didn't need another guitar, but just couldn't resist a beautiful guitar at such a modest price.
