Overview

Epiphone's history and association with Les Paul dates way back to the days when Les, working at the Epiphone factory on 14th St. in New York, created the world's first electric guitar. Over the years, Les continued to work closely with Epiphone by reviewing new product ideas and offering suggestions. The Epiphone Les Paul Traditional Pro electric guitar combines the best of Les Paul's original design with new features that set this Epiphone guitar apart.

Professional Electronics.
The Les Paul Traditional Pro uses Epiphone's 4-wire, nickel/silver base humbuckers with newly tooled, USA-style bobbins. In the neck position is the Alnico Classic Pro humbucker with Alnico-II warm, thick vintage tone and open zebra coils. It's uniquely paired with Epiphone's ProBucker-3 humbucker. An inspired by version of Gibson's BurstBucker-3, the Les Paul guitar features unevenly wound coils and Alnico-II magnets that replicate that "Patent Applied for" airy tone. You'll love the way they sound! To top it all off, both volume controls feature push/pull potentiometers allowing you to coil-split each pickup for single-coil sounds. Combined with the 3-way toggle, you get 6 unique sounds from one great Les Paul guitar.

Tone Woods with Great Feel!
The Epiphone Les Paul Traditional Pro guitar has a solid mahogany back with a carved top and a solid mahogany neck that's hand-fitted and glued into the body for excellent neck-to-body contact and acting almost like one continuous piece of wood. The guitar neck features a SlimTaper D profile with a smooth and fast "worn" type finish on the back of the neck and body.

Loaded with premium add-ons!
Other features on the Epiphone Les Paul included quality Grover tuners, a traditional cream-colored pickguard, LockTone Tune-O-Matic bridge/stopbar, and Epiphone's own StrapLocks. Like every Epiphone, the electric guitar features their Limited Lifetime warranty backed by world famous 24/7/365 day Gibson Customer Service.

I do a lot of research before I buy an instrument. I spent about two months studying before I settled on this guitar. It came down to either a Schecter Solo6 custom or the Epiphone trad pro. I also played the Gibson counterpart for a fair comparison. In my mind the only real difference in the Gibson model and Epiphone model is from top of the nut up and the $$$$. I'm pretty much a nit picker also but I don't have a problem paying the bucks to get what I'm looking for. This was a no brainer. I can't say how consistent quality is from one guitar to another but I can tell you what I got. My Epiphone trad pro came from Guitar Center in Avondale, AZ. This ax doesn't have a single flaw in it. The neck set up was near perfect. The intonation on three strings was slightly sharp. The neck is a little fat but comfortable and fast. The binding, inlay work and detail is superb. All the electronics are first rate. The pups are just what you should expect. The neck pup has that rich creamy sound you would expect from quality buckers. It has plenty of mid range crunch and it shreds preamp tubes beautifully. The coil split feature won't disappoint you either. I would describe the sound as a cross between a tele and a strat depending on what amp you play through. I like the sound better than my 1970 Fender tele. I bought the ebony model and it is gorgeous. I had to warm up to the satin finish on the back but I'm OK with that now too. I've had this ax for about two months now and the more I play this guitar, the more I like it. It doesn't seem all that heavy to me either. It has become my hands on favorite and I have three others. I'm so taken with what I got that I'm tempted to go back to GC and buy the Epiphone solid walnut SG. If you are looking for quality at good price you owe it to yourself to check this guitar out. Remember that an Epiphone Les Paul is not a copy or a clone. It's a model authorized by Gibson and this one without a doubt has my endorsement.

I spent a lot of time choosing this particular guitar. I set a budget of $750, but based on the reviews I believed this was going to be the guitar I wanted even though I had more money to spent. The guitar was a disappointment out of the box. The volume knob for the neck pickup literally fell out of the front of the guitar with the pod stem still in the knob. I pushed it back in and could control the volume but it would fall back out. I could not use the coil splitting feature. The other three knobs turn with ease, but either the pods are mounted crooked or the knobs are just poorly made. Each one is tight on the stem but wobbles as you turn it. The tone adjustment on both pickups seems to have very little effect. I have to listen quite closely to tell the difference between the settings from one end of the knob to the other. The tone knobs on my Ibanez electric bass really do sculpt the sound. This is my first electric guitar (have played acoustic for 45 years) so maybe that's just the way it is on electric guitars. Epiphone's description of this guitar says that it has locking strap buttons. It did not. I contacted Gibson and they were happy to send me a set free of charge. If someone forgot to put them on at the factory - and then this was also overlooked in the US where Epiphone says each guitar is examined and set up by a pro - what else was missed? The face of the body and headstock are very nicely finished, but the back of everything is a disappointment. I knew that it was a flat finish which is supposedly better because sweaty hands and clothes are less prone to stick. It looks like a short-cut using cheap flat black spray paint. The finish has grain pits all over it. The very top of the headstock is smooth on one side, and rough on the other. I do believe that this finish will be less prone to stick, but it could have been done well. A sanding job with fine sandpaper for finish sanding and in between coats would result in a nice finished look. I don't care for a flat finish on any guitar, but you are seeing this in more and more on acoustics. What I have seen has been well done - I have not seen anything look this bad even on a cheap acoustic. The guitar is going back and a replacement is on the way due to the volume pod. The second guitar will give me an idea if what I see in this guitar is an indication of poor quality control, or if just this one was a lemon. It played well, however needs a good setup, which I will have done to the replacement as long as all the parts stay fastened to the guitar.

Comments about Epiphone Limited Edition Les Paul Traditional PRO Electric Guitar:

so i went through all of the epiphone les paul and a few gibson les pauls. and this was the last one i tried and it within seconds i got the fat heavy sound that i was expecting. really happy with the purchase! plus it was way cheaper than i was expecting to pay for the same sound so i got to get a hardshell case, and a marshall amp. and some picks. do yourself a favor and buy this one quick.

Trad Pro really versatile

By Derek Belbin

from NL. Canada

Comments about Epiphone Limited Edition Les Paul Traditional PRO Electric Guitar:

The Epiphone Traditional Pro is just a sublime guitar and the coil tapping feature also makes it a must for gigging musicians. You can get the raunch of humbuckers and sparkle of single coils without having to switch guitars between songs. The single coil sound is more like a Fender Jaguar than a Strat type sound-which is not a bad thing. The humbuckers sound so much like the old PAFs it's uncanny-just brilliant. The Trad Pro's action and neck are extremely comfortable-this is one guitar that every player should have in his/her arsenal.

Worth every penny!

By Corey Caso

from Carteret, New Jersey

Comments about Epiphone Limited Edition Les Paul Traditional PRO Electric Guitar:

This is by far the best guitar I have ever played! It looks and feels like a gibson at a fraction of the price. From the moment I picked it up I could tell it was a very solid guitar. I play rythm guitar in a band and this guitar is definitely versatile enough to sound great in both rythm and lead roles. The best part of this guitar has to be that genuine ballsy rock and roll tone!

Epiphone Les Paul

By Justin Holthusen

from Mountainburg, Arkansas

Comments about Epiphone Limited Edition Les Paul Traditional PRO Electric Guitar:

I own many guitars, some Gibsons, Jackson, Ibanez, and Epiphone. This guitar compared to my Gibson Les Paul Standard their is barely any comparison. The Gibson is a little heavier and the pickups are of a little better quality but the Epiphone is the closest thing you will get to it for this price. Id buy it again if i got the chance

Absolutely Wonderful

By Jon Leite

from East Haven Ct

Comments about Epiphone Limited Edition Les Paul Traditional PRO Electric Guitar:

This guitar really is a beauty. Not only does it have this wonderful look but it gives a incredible sound for an epiphone. You are 100% getting more than your money's worth. It gived off such a great tone. You cant make this baby sound great for whatever genre you play. It not only gives the incredible gibson sound but even feels like a gibson. I would recommend this guitar to any player, young, old, beginner, or expert.

decent guitar

By A.Y.

from Chapel Hill, North Carolina

Comments about Epiphone Limited Edition Les Paul Traditional PRO Electric Guitar:

I was playing with one of my friends who had this guitar and I noticed how great it looked. He let me try it out and it really felt amazing, the neck was perfect and it sounded great. The only two problems that I noticed with it were that it was hard to play notes near where the neck and the body meet, I'm used to SGs where access to upper frets is very easy. The only other problem was that the pickups weren't the greatest in the world but they were decent. I would say if you get this, you should change the pickups but thats it. This guitar feels and sounds better to me than the Gibson Les Paul Studio.

fat sounding and affordable

By steve hitler

from tucson AZ

Comments about Epiphone Limited Edition Les Paul Traditional PRO Electric Guitar:

i played the wine red one at guitar center today. the finish was excellent. back and neck is matte, and not gloss. i happen to really like epiphones "worn" finishes. this guitar gives you the nice gloss top with the comfort of and smoothness of a non gloss neck. pickups are nice and fat sounding. the coil taps are a nice option. i was considering switching them out, but i think these stock ones are nice. im now seriously considering purchasing one of these. sounds great, looks, great, feels great. very versatile and totally affordable and no modification needed.

Best in price range

By Drew

from Mullica Hill, NJ

Comments about Epiphone Limited Edition Les Paul Traditional PRO Electric Guitar:

Absolutely LOVE this guitar. I usually go for Fenders, but the feel and sound of this beauty changed my mind. I was wary of the flat/matte finish on the neck, but it actually comes in handy when your hands sweat. No sticking!. Also, the tonal capabilities of this guitar are fantastic. Also, with the Grover tuners, this thing stays in tune suprisingly well. I recommend this to ANYONE.

Comments about Epiphone Limited Edition Les Paul Traditional PRO Electric Guitar:

Finally, Epiphone did it. Open zebra coils with push/pull splitting. I had to make my own custom humbuckers with coil taps on my own Les Paul, now Epiphone did it on a stock model. Awsome!!! Excellent choice for overall variety in tone. If I already didn't have my own created, I'd buy this one!

Epiphone "Trad Pro"

By Chris

from Eagle ID

Comments about Epiphone Limited Edition Les Paul Traditional PRO Electric Guitar:

The Gibson Traditional Pro is one of their best selling guitars. Now the Trad Pro can be one of Epiphones best selling guitars. It is an amazing guitar. Two humbuckers give the guitar a beautiful crunching noise on distortion. The Push/Pull coil taps just add more tonal options. This guitar is my favorite guitar I own because it is so versital.

THIS IS AN EPIPHONE?!?!?!

By Shred Master

from Portland, OR

Comments about Epiphone Limited Edition Les Paul Traditional PRO Electric Guitar:

I have a Gibson Les Paul Studio, which is just like the standard without a pickguard, and this thing sounds comparable, which is surprising for a thousand dollar disparity... I will say that there is definitely better quality put into the Gibson, but the Epiphone is a way better quality instrument for the money. If I were an intermediate player who was looking for more than just a beginner guitar, I would get this thing. It has the Alnico pickups and sounds great. You could play live with this thing, and you could sound as chunky as a Gibson Les Paul!!! Great guitar for the price!!

Blew My Mind!

By Anthony Socci

Comments about Epiphone Limited Edition Les Paul Traditional PRO Electric Guitar:

Wow! That is all I have to say! I play in a Rock band and needed to retire my Gibson for a newer model.I was going to buy another Gibson but heard all the fuss about Epiphone. So I said "What the Heck." I went to Guitar Center and found it.Pluged it into an amp, and my jaw dropped! The most amazing thing is how good the pick-ups were. They were so hot!I thought it wouldn't even be able to compare to my Gibson. But now I use it more than my Gibson! To anyone who reads my review. This is the best guitar you will get for this price!

A real solid Axe, no mixed words, This guitar seriously rises above pay grade

By Bill

from Oakdale,CT.

Comments about Epiphone Limited Edition Les Paul Traditional PRO Electric Guitar:

If you want an axe that is most versatile for across the board performance in mixed music genera's THIS IS A GUITAR THAT RETURNS EVERY BIT OF INVESTMENT AND MORE. Play a gibson pro studio, and then play the same song with Epiphone Les Paul Traditional pro if everything is in tune there are no more words that will change what your ears want you to do. A huge number of high quality brand types do not provide what this guitar delivers, save some cash and buy another amplifier, tuner, what ever you need, this is a very rich instrument for every reason described by myself and others, expand your abilities on the fast finger board, allow the pure center of gravity enable a stance not with you on a previous axe. This guitar gives, now take it where you want to go. A must have Les Paul.

Strong sound, great value

By Jackson Shaw

from Temecula, CA

Comments about Epiphone Limited Edition Les Paul Traditional PRO Electric Guitar:

This guitar has been a great purchase for us. It has excellent quality sound, and can be adjusted to accomadate numerous variations of tone, and music. This is achieved by the adjustments to allow you to coil-split each pickup for single-coil sounds. You can really hear the difference and change the sound upto a half dozen ways. This versatilty is like having 6 guitars in one. It plays comfortably, and with nice tonality and pitch. I have been very satisfied with the purchase.

Comments about Epiphone Limited Edition Les Paul Traditional PRO Electric Guitar:

When the boxes arrived,I purchased a hard case in event of this becoming part of the family of guitars, best protection for my best performers. The occasion of the what's in the box anxiety is now,I opened the boxes revealing the perfect red wine color I had hoped for, upon the usual inspections we all pace through, with the set up tuning done in only a few minutes, I plugged her in, and as if I had spent enumerable hours with a staff of sound engineers working almost every conceivable option availing my wanting of this guitar to be vigorously above those in field, conditions are achieved as a serious music maker comes to her own life. This instrument is solid in all specifications written for this guitar, what is not written yet, surely will be in the hands of the novice to the professional, from country to rock she is a permanent member of my guitar family.
