Overview

This is a limited edition version of Epiphone's number one selling model available with a choice of "worn" finishes. The Epiphone Ltd Ed Special-I is a great way for beginners to get started on guitar with real Les Paul tone and feel. But seasoned pros love the Special-I also because it's a great-sounding, workhorse guitar that lets them leave their more expensive axes at home.

The authentic LP power starts with an basswood, trademarked Les Paul body with a bolted-on "1960's" SlimTaper„¢ mahogany neck featuring a 21-fret rosewood fingerboard with dot inlays. The Special-I is voiced by a pair of hot open-coil Epiphone 700T and 650R humbucker pickups, giving it massive, unmistakable Les Paul tone. Like all of Epiphone's electric guitars, it comes standard-equipped with 500K potentiometers for the master volume and master tone controls, plus Epiphone's heavy-duty 3-way pickup selector toggle switch and exclusive non-rotating heavy-duty output jack. This value-champ also now features nickel hardware including an intonated, one-piece wraparound bridge-stopbar.

Great Playing, Great Sounding for any price

I seriously love this guitar. While I've owned guitars costing 10 times as much as I paid for the LP Special I P90, none of them sounded better or played better.

I seriously love this guitar. While I've owned guitars costing 10 times as much as I paid for the LP Special I P90, none of them sounded better or played better.

While the electronics, tuners, and other hardware are nothing special, I've had no issues with any of it. After a setup by the tech at GC, the action is nice and there's no fret buzz. It stays in tune well enough, and it sounds like a dream.

The P90 pickups have that special flavor you just can duplicate elsewhere. Unless your're a shredder, you'll love this little guitar.

I purchased this at my local GC as my first foray into electric guitar, looking for a lower cost option since I didn't know the level of commitment I'd maintain. The overall set up out of the box was very playable, complete novices have plenty of tones to explore though the neck/rhythm pick up is a bit flat and muddy sounding. After pouring close to 100 hours of play time and a new set of strings into the guitar, a few things really started to become bothersome:

- The intonated bridge is, well, awful.
- Stock tuning machine heads are frustrating and won't keep the guitar in tune for more than a few songs.
- Again, that frigging bridge...

I learned a lot of things from this guitar about what I wanted/needed to make for an enjoyable playing experience. If you have the $50 or so extra get the Special II for the Tune-o-Matic bridge, it'll save you a lot of frustration.

Great guitar!

Comments about Epiphone Limited Edition Les Paul Special-I Electric Guitar:

I've been playing various instruments for years, but this is the first electric guitar I've ever owned, and I'm more than happy with the purchase! I was looking for a decently priced guitar, but considering I had already played on acoustic for about 2 years prior to this purchase, I wanted a step or two up from a Squire, and this guitar hits that nail right on the head. If nothing else (which is certainly not the case), it looks great. I've had it for about a month and I still smile at the sight of it, and I've gotten numerous compliments on the Cherry red color and Les Paul body design. The action on it is extremely comfortable, and in my opinion, it's the perfect weight. I've held and played some other electrics, and many of them seem to weigh down on my shoulders after a long period of standing and playing, but not this one. Sound-wise, the dual pick-up with the switch also adds great versatility to the sounds that this instrument can produce (I plug into an Epiphone Mustang, so to me it feels like the sound options with this guitar are pretty much endless.) It can get down low and crunch, or you can crank it with more of a dirty tone, and it sounds great everywhere in between those two as well. All in all, I would highly recommend this to anyone looking for a good quality guitar that doesn't dig deep into the wallet. (P.S., If you're looking at Squires, spend the extra $30 and get this instead, it's worth it!)

Comments about Epiphone Limited Edition Les Paul Special-I Electric Guitar:

well i originally bought one of the squire strats but when i unboxed it there were chips in the paint..tuner heads looked like they wanted to pop off..and it just looked like there was no time spent putting it together..so i took that back and picked up one of these...i wish i purchased this first..i didnt want to get a les paul at first because i felt that they were too heavy..but this one is just perfect its not too light or too heavy..when i took it out of the box everything was perfect just had to tune it up and ready to go..there was even a sticker, a poster, and an extra cable in the box. i had an epiphone sg in the past and you can tell they take there time and pay attention to detail when they asseble their guitars... i got this one in the worn cherry color which looks fanastic...ill probably just stick to buying epiphone guitars from now on.

Comments about Epiphone Limited Edition Les Paul Special-I Electric Guitar:

Just got my Guitar today and what a buy. The feel is awesome and so is the weight. I played it for a while and when I took it off and turned it around I saw that it was made in China. Those people need jobs too, I am pro American but I have to say a good buy is a good buy no matter where it came from. The important thing is the quality of the instrument. It looks good, feels good and plays good for under $120.00 with shipping and tax. Huge Score!

Comments about Epiphone Limited Edition Les Paul Special-I Electric Guitar:

First off, I have o say that the pics just don't do it any justice. I got mine in TV yellow and its beautiful. At first I was planning to get worn black but when I saw the yellow in-store, I was instantly hooked. what you don't see in the pics is the faint woodgrain behind the yellow.
For sound and playability I have to say it is really darn good. it has really nice humbuckers, isn't too heavy (yet it still has great sustain) and it has a pretty nice neck. My only complaint is that it doesn't have very good tuners, I can only get through about two songs before I need to retune. But that's an easy fix.
So, all around a great guitar and for the price, I don't thing it really gets any better than this.

Comments about Epiphone Limited Edition Les Paul Special-I Electric Guitar:

I purchased this for my 14 year old daughter because she received Xbox Rocksmith for Christmas and I didn't want her to be tempted to be using one of my high end guitars. Got it home and set it up and I was impressed. Great neck and balance. Two P 90s growl. Ended up playing it for about 3 hours before I stuck it under the tree. If your looking for a starter electric you can't go wrong with it. And its super cheap.

Mine arrived with a crack in the neck. I wrote an email to the customer service. But I have received a reply. I asked for help. Got nothing back.

I have played with the guitar everyday since I have received it. But I cannot get it to sound good.

          Any help.

Comments about Epiphone Limited Edition Les Paul Special-I Electric Guitar:

This guitar feels great! I've been playing for about two months, and have picked it up fairly quickly, outplaying most everyone in my guitar class. It's a great deal, and is very slick. The guitar fortunately in my opining doesn't come so bright, it's more of a dark cherry red, and aesthetically looks amazing. Strings feel solid, and the pickups sound great, this and a sound pedal really make the guitar sound and feel great. My only problem with the guitar is a fret buzz on the low e. I am taking it into a technician very soon to get it figured out, but putting distortion on washes it out completely. For a beginner, this guitar feels great.

Comments about Epiphone Limited Edition Les Paul Special-I Electric Guitar:

I bought this guitar at the black friday sale in 2013 for 89 dollars. It was my first electric guitar and i was very happy with it. Sounded great and was very playable. For the less then 90 bucks that i payed for it new i think it was a great deal. The only reason i rated it a 4 star is because after less then a year of light playing the treble pickup started to cut out and eventually died all together. Besides that it was a great first guitar that started me off in a an awesome direction. Im getting ready to purchase myself a bit higher quality axe but this will stay in my possession as my first!

Comments about Epiphone Limited Edition Les Paul Special-I Electric Guitar:

I ordered this one right before Memorial Day. Sale price was hard to turn down. I play mostly acoustic in an Americana/Bluegrass band but have purchased 5 electrics over the past 2 years trying to find something that I can play on stage for a change up. Les Paul Custom (too heavy), Nighthawk reissue (didn't like the pickups) Tele (not a chicken picker) Strat (not Jimi). This little Epi is perfect. I did change strings out of the box, but the set up was perfect and the tones that I can get are great. Kind of wished I had bought another. Only downside, I ordered TV Yellow, which it is, just stained not painted. Overall, just what I was looking for.

Comments about Epiphone Limited Edition Les Paul Special-I Electric Guitar:

Honestly, for the small price, you cant go wrong, a great guitar, really just change the pickups and you got something you can play out with. Very nice designs too, i got worn cherry, but they all looked nice. I think its got 21 frets, but i mostly use it for rhythm guitar, so if you dont play that high its fine. Nice nobs, everything works fine. just BE CAREFUL with your belt or necklaces or whatever cuz guitars like these scratch very easily. Ive only had this for a month i think, but i havent had any problems yet. Everything has been great so far, like i said, a steal for this price. It looks epic, but you'll imediately know its not a les paul, haha, its a little on the light side, but i personally dont mind (although i do like the feel of a heavy guitar). So great price, good guitar. Whenever my band practices i feel alot safer using this than my telecaster or strat, If have an extra hundred hangin around, id definitly suggest this

I purchased this Humbucker TV Yellow version as the P90 equipped TV Yellow version was no longer available.
No problem as I dropped in a set of GFS Mean 90's(humbucker sized P90's).
After a tiny bit of set up to the neck and intonation, the guitar screams..it has become my new favorite!

The guitar was quite playable out of the box , but I prefer a bit lower action and did find a couple fret sprouts.. after tapping these frets back flush and a light dressing.. I was able to get the action quite low with zero fret buzz..and the intonation is surprisingly dead on!
Even with the upgrade additions, the guitar is an amazing value.!.. the only other upgrade I might add later on would be locking tuners. The supplied tuners do the job alright but an upgrade would be a great plus considering the value of the guitar bone stock, and it's ability to be a worthy upgrade platform. Highly recommended !

I looked into many guitars before I got an Epiphone Special SG. I wish I had seen this first, because its the same exact guitar but in a Les Paul shape and about $70 cheaper. I have used this guitar in store and didn't have the money at the time (I stopped in for strings) and its not near as heavy as anything I've heard about other Les Paul's. I use it with a Digitech multi effect processer pedal, and it sounds great in any amp I've used it in. I can have a great clean sound for my soft rock, and with a flip of the selector switch and press a button and play my normal punk rock music. All around, great sound, at a great price, for all levels. I will always love the 700T and 650R pick ups epiphone has, in any guitar shape they put it in.

All i wanted was a good quality guitar for a lower price(im only 14 so i cant afford much...) and thats what i got. The only problem ive had with it so far is the tuners.. a few of them are a little to tight and some are a little loose if you know what i mean, but other than that everything was great, no scratches when it came in the mail, everything was perfect except for the strings that came with it. I didnt like those as much, so after about a week i slapped some beefy 11 gauge Ernie Ball's and I had no complaints after that, the pickups have a great metal sounding squeal when you know the technique.. also another thing that was a little bit wierd was the raised up bridge... but thats easy to get used to and easy to palm mute with.. i had no fret buzz or anything with any of the strings ive used, so in all its been an amazing guitar and i cant put it down!

As soon as I opened the box I was very pleased with my purchase. Expectations validated! The Epiphone quality and care for detail is excellent. The finish is a low lustre yellow- not at all shiny. Love it. The string action is excellent. Tuners are top notch. Some reviews refer to a "cheap Guitar'- not as a cut but a compliment. Even as a compliment, I would never classify this instrument as a cheap guitar. It looks great, sounds great, and plays great! VERY happy with my purchase. I own Epiphone, Fender, and Martin instruments, and this is definitely a very satisfying guitar to play!!!

Comments about Epiphone Limited Edition Les Paul Special-I Electric Guitar:

I own an Epi LP JR in cherry. It was purchased in 2010 for about $115 and built in Indonesia. It is a stellar guitar. Fit and finish really couldn't be any better. It is labeled as a 'Limited edition - Custom shop' and has a one piece mahogany body.
I think somebody wised up in marketing and realized they were could have gotten a lot more that run of guitars as presumed by the guitar I received.
I ordered and received the Special I in worn TV yellow. It's about half the weight of the JR, not a bad thing. Matter of fact the basswood body is at least twice as loud acoustically as the mahogany bodied JR making it shine as a 'couch' guitar. I like the flat finish, and the neck feels fine and a bit faster because of it.
Cons: Little things like strap buttons off centered that just make you cringe. Specks of debris in a couple of places in the finish. The radius of the body edge obviously done by hand, a little overboard here and there on the belt. Obviously nitpicking, but trying to point differences in manufacture of cheap guitars and how much variance you can get based on a few years span and country of origin.
I am having trouble getting past one flaw... whatever they oiled / stained the fingerboard with literally stinks like fish oil. I've tried a 91% isopropyl alchohol flush and rub to draw a lot of it out, re-oiled with vintage lemon oil I've had and used for half a century. It still stinks.
This guitar is manufactured in China, who knows what they used on that fingerboard. I'm using this guitar as a modding platform, so I am stuck with it. My girlfriend sat in here a minute ago and asked why the guitar stinks like fish. I shrugged.

I will guardedly recommend this to a friend. To a stranger, your mileage may vary.
