Overview

Epiphone's history and association with Les Paul dates way back to the days when Les, working at the Epiphone factory on 14th St. in New York, created the world's first electric guitar. Over the years, Les continued to work closely with Epiphone by reviewing new product ideas and offering suggestions. The Epiphone Les Paul Quilt Top PRO electric guitar combines the best of Les Paul's original design with new features that set this Epiphone guitar apart. Case sold separately.

Professional Electronics
The Les Paul Quilt Top PRO uses Epiphone's 4-wire, nickel/silver base humbuckers with newly tooled, USA-style bobbins. In the neck position is Epiphone's chrome-covered ProBucker 2 with warm, thick vintage tone. It's uniquely paired with a chrome-covered ProBucker 3 humbucker, an inspired by version of Gibson's BurstBucker 3, that features unevenly wound coils and Alnico-II magnets that replicate that "Patent Applied for" airy tone. To top it all off, both volume controls feature push/pull potentiometers allowing you to coil-split each pickup for single-coil sounds. Combined with the 3-way toggle, you get 6 unique sounds from one great Les Paul guitar.

Premium tone woods
The Epiphone Les Paul Quilt Top PRO guitar has a solid mahogany back with a stunning, carved quilted top. Its solid mahogany neck is hand-fitted and glued into the body for excellent neck-to-body contact and resonates almost like one continuous piece of wood.

Loaded with add-ons
Other features on the Epiphone Les Paul included quality Grover tuners, a traditional cream-colored pickguard, and LockTone tune-o-matic bridge with stopbar tailpiece.

  • Mahogany body
  • Carved quilted maple top
  • 24.75" Scale set-in mahogany neck

The pictures of the model guitar simply does this instrument no justice! The appearance of the quilting is quite stunning and makes you want to jump in and take a swim. The finish was flawless right out of the box although it did require a minor setup to get the neck where i wanted it. (This is expected after the instrument traveled through many climates just to get to me). The tone is wonderful and can play delicate clean notes or growl like a demon if desired. Overall, a fantastic instrument at a fantastic price.

I received this guitar yesterday after having to order it in. I don't have much to say just yet except when I opened the case I was surprised to see a guitar that didn't look like the picture. I'm not sure of the correct term but the guitar above has tiger stripes which is not what I unboxed. The "quilt top" has a cloudy finish on the main body. Whether this looks better or not is up to the beholder but I have to say I was disappointed when I opened it up. It's still a beautiful guitar but I'm not sure what my next steps are just yet. I got what was advertised but I feel I was mislead by an inconsistent photo.

Epiphone Les Paul Quilt Top PRO

By Davis Dodds

from Arlington, TX

Comments about Epiphone Limited Edition Les Paul Quilt Top PRO Electric Guitar:

I bought the translucent blue version of this it is amazing! So much cooler than flametop! If you are wondering what the difference between this (a PRO) and just a Standard, it means that you can pull the volume knobs up to turn the pickup the knob you pulled up represents to a single-coil instead of a humbucker. I love it! It makes the guitar so much more versatile. Almost never comes out of tune, looks really shiny, don't have to polish it very often. Overall a great guitar. Best in its class

      High quality Import Les Paul

      By Matthew Ackerman

      from San Jose, Ca

Comments about Epiphone Limited Edition Les Paul Quilt Top PRO Electric Guitar:

This Epiphone LP has an AMAZING looking finish with the quilt top. From what I can tell it's just about flawless. Everyone I have showed it to goes "wow!" This is the same as the 'Standard Pro' but with a higher quality veneer. Grover machine heads are great, pickups sound amazing, controls are solid and well placed. I really can't find anything to complain about. The 'out of the box' setup needed a little work but I haven't found a guitar yet that didn't. I adjusted the relief, string height and intonation and it has been rocking for me ever since. The guitar has a terrific bluesy sound clean and can play just about anything heavy with the distortion cranked up. Is it the same as M.I.U.S.A. Gibson quality? Of course not, but it's very close. I can nit-pick about a few things but for the money this is a terrific guitar. If this is your budget and you are looking for an Epiphone Les Paul that is a little bit unique finish wise, give this one a go. I think you will be pleased with the results. I haven't been able to put this thing down it sounds so good. The coil split feature in the Pro line is also very cool. You can make some really unique sounds with that feature. The guitar is the perfect weight and the neck fits like a glove to me. Seriously. I love this thing.

      Best Epi Yet

      By Terry Allen _ _

      from Eugene, OR

Comments about Epiphone Limited Edition Les Paul Quilt Top PRO Electric Guitar:

Over the last few years I have had a few Gibson's and a few Epi's, and a few Fenders. Without a doubt this is the best Epiphone Les Paul I have owned. Out of the box, no issues. Action is a little high, but that can be changed easily. Finish and build quality is almost flawless. With the split coils and the 3 ways pickup switch the player has a huge variety of tones. Granted QC can vary from guitar to guitar, but the one I received, couldn't ask for anything better. I had placed an order for a Epiphone Les Paul, changed my mind, called GC, canceled the order and the GC sales guy offered me this one. Couldn't say no, and I'm glad I took him up on his offer. One very happy customer!

Comments about Epiphone Limited Edition Les Paul Quilt Top PRO Electric Guitar:

I have had mine for 1 1/2 years. After recently buying a gibson les paul melody maker that I am NOT happy with, I decided I should review the GOOD guitar. I also own a 2011 gibson les paul studio gold top. This Epiphone is a wonderful instrument! The best of the bunch. The fit and finish: EXELLENT, really! The probuckers with the coil split is amazing. You can squeeze out tones that will pleasantly surprise you. It stays in tune very well after the initial set up. No, it was not set up perfectly upon delivery but very few are. I notice the price has gone down since I bought mine. This is a great chance to buy a great guitar for a very low price. This thing is heavy compared to my Gibsons. I play it every day and it still looks as new. Buy one! You wont be sorry.

Comments about Epiphone Limited Edition Les Paul Quilt Top PRO Electric Guitar:

I was looking for my first les paul type guitar. I am usually a fender guy, however, this Les Paul just struck me as beautiful. It was set up right out of the box. I had little to no work to do setting it up properly. Again, it is strikingly beautiful, and it plays just as good as it sounds. It handles higher-gain setups well, and it is absolutely stunning with a clean setup as well. The push-pull coil split feature is interesting, and I like the tonal differences that it allows when I'm searching for a particular type of sound. The split-coils don't sound like a strat, but the sound is definitely different than non-coil-split options. Lots of tonal possibilities.

Comments about Epiphone Limited Edition Les Paul Quilt Top PRO Electric Guitar:

Guitar was lightly packed in a used box from another product, and the box was damaged. The instrument seems to have survived the trip, however the blue finish shows significant sun fading around the push-pull pots and on the pick guard when the stickers and labels are removed. Also, the strings were rusty. The bridge pickup seems weak compared to my MIM HSS Strat. I have to wonder if this was a floor model that was passed over due to the weak response.

Comments about Epiphone Limited Edition Les Paul Quilt Top PRO Electric Guitar:

I have the trans blue model. I have only spent a few days with it so far but I had to post some comments. Must say that the setup was perfect. Much better than some more expensive USA made guitars that I have purchased in the past. It played like a dream right out of the box (which I must also note, it was triple boxed, wrapped, and had bubble wrap packing also. This was the best packaged guitar that I have ever had delivered). Great job by the US setup crew. The finish is also perfect. The top on mine is actually nicer and better matched than the one that they chose for the ""stock"" photo. I am not a professional player, and I have never owned a $5,000 guitar, but I have and currently do own ones that cost much more than this Epiphone, but I would put this up against any of them. The classic Les Paul sound with a beautiful finish at a great price. You won't be disappointed with this one.

I bought this guitar mainly for it looks it reminds me of a blue jay bird . We called my deceased son blue jay , so I bought in memory of him. It is a great guitar I love the sound of the humbucker pu. I have had single pu , with the coil splitting I have been able to reduce my guitars number . I love the feel and sound, it is a great value.

Comments about Epiphone Limited Edition Les Paul Quilt Top PRO Electric Guitar:

The quality, fit and finish of this guitar are really something else. Epiphone is coming out with some really REALLY high quality first rate guitars. Go down and look at this thing. You will be impressed I guarantee it. I sat at guitar center and played a large number of the Epiphone Les Pauls and this particular model, and the plus top pro sister, are fantastic. This is the top of the line of the Les Paul standard type design for Epiphone. The tone and sustain are amazing. I paired this with a great 100 dollar off coupon and left the store with a giant smile. Thank you Guitar Center and Epiphone! This guitar will give me years of enjoyment. I got the 'faded burst' design and there is nothing faded about it. The color pops and the quilt top wood looks simply amazing. So what it is veneer? The body it one solid piece of mahogany, nothing is glued like old designs. It has an ivory binding ( no it is NOT painted!) The finger board is rose wood and it looks great. If this is your budget ( and even if its below ) and you want a great Les Paul take a hard look at this model. I love it! The 'burstbuckers' sounds great! The split coils are really cool and allow a much different sound. The guitar needed some serious setup but what guitar doesn't? They are wood and must be adjusted for your climate.

Comments about Epiphone Limited Edition Les Paul Quilt Top PRO Electric Guitar:

I've been playing for 50 years, 40 as a professional touring musician. I've owned literally 100's of guitars, many of them 'dogs' in my opinion. I currently own 2 Martins, 2 Taylors, 2 Strats, 2 Gibsons and this Epi Les Paul quilt top, blue. This is by far the best guitar I own and perhaps one of the best I ever owned. I have been sorely disappointed in the quality of Gibsons as of late. In the past Epi's were disappointing. I sold all my Gibson Les Pauls for one issue or another but missed having one, although the quality was not where it used to be. In this point in my career I can afford any guitar my heart desires, but after trying dozens of Gibsons, I could not justify the price for the quality (or lack thereof). So I thought I'd give Epiphone another go. On a whim I walked into a Guitar Center and tried a few Gibsons and Epi's...walked out with the Epiphone LP. Could not be happier. The finish, tone, and workmanship is as good as any Gibson of the former glory days, and far better than the current run of Gibsons, at 1/4 the price. Epiphone really stepped up their game lately. The set up was spot on, the intonation was perfect. I am totally impressed. Of course it will not be as valuable in a future trade as a Gibson, but at this price, who cares? The coil splitting Pro Bucker pickups give this Les Paul a completely new dimension and is suitable for all types of music. I play all types of music, from solo country twang to full band hard rock, and this will kill it all! Years ago you couldn't put an Epi in my hands, but not any more, if this is the new production and quality of Epi, I'm sold!!! Don't let the 'name brand' snobs talk this guitar down. It is every bit as good as its American counterpart, at 1/4 the price. Get it and play the heck out of it. I know...I know...nit pick the build, wood and electronics vs Gibson, but really, the difference is negligible unless you're a snob. Working mans axe at a working mans price. And well worth it, every penny!

              from Indianapolis, Indiana

Comments about Epiphone Limited Edition Les Paul Quilt Top PRO Electric Guitar:

The past five years, I've played a modified Fender Strat electric and a Taylor 314 acoustic. Both are very good instruments. Although I've also wanted to own a Les Paul, I felt uncomfortable spending a lot of money. Therefore, the Epiphone became my instrument of choice instead of a Gibson. This Epiphone Les Paul Limited Edition Quilt Top PRO in translucent blue far exceeded my expectations for a guitar in this price range. It is a beautiful guitar. The guitar stays in tune and the intonation up and down the neck is right on. The D shaped neck with a 12" radius is very easy to play. At this price, I do not think you can buy a better instrument.

Comments about Epiphone Limited Edition Les Paul Quilt Top PRO Electric Guitar:

Very nice guitar. I love the pickups and it is easy to get some sounds I can't get from Fenders (although they are unique as well).

My only issue was that out of the 3 I liked, 2 had neck issues. Thankfully this one was great. Because of the differences in quality from one to the other, I would recommend in store purchase. Of the 3 this was not the best looking but it is really super nice. The finish on these is really something.

Comments about Epiphone Limited Edition Les Paul Quilt Top PRO Electric Guitar:

Loved it in the store and got a good deal.
Once I got it home and did a legit setup on it,
(None of these manufacturers set these things up) I found that it was flatter than a pancake on high bends and the frets were too low.
There was almost no material left to do a fret job on it. I returned it.
Full disclosure, I'm a schecter guy and I love those frets when bending (which I do a lot of)
Good beginner guitar but I'm not such a fan of this as something to play leads with.
