Overview

Epiphone's history and association with Les Paul dates way back to the days when Les, working at the Epiphone factory on 14th St. in New York, created the world's first electric guitar. Over the years, Les continued to work closely with Epiphone by reviewing new product ideas and offering suggestions. The Epiphone Les Paul PlusTop PRO electric guitar combines the best of Les Paul's original design with new features that set this Epiphone guitar apart.

Professional Electronics
The Les Paul PlusTop PRO uses Epiphone's 4-wire, nickel/silver base humbuckers with newly tooled, USA-style bobbins. In the neck position is Epiphone's chrome-covered ProBucker-2 with warm, thick vintage tone. It's uniquely paired with a chrome-covered ProBucker-3 humbucker, an inspired by version of Gibson's BurstBucker-3, that features unevenly wound coils and Alnico-II magnets that replicate that "Patent Applied for" airy tone. To top it all off, both volume controls feature push/pull potentiometers allowing you to coil-split each pickup for single-coil sounds. Combined with the 3-way toggle, you get 6 unique sounds from one great Les Paul guitar.

Premium tone woods
The Epiphone Les Paul PlusTop PRO guitar has a solid mahogany back with a gorgeous, carved flame top. Its solid mahogany neck is hand-fitted and glued into the body for excellent neck-to-body contact and resonates almost like one continuous piece of wood.

Loaded with add-ons
Other features on the Epiphone Les Paul included quality Grover tuners, a traditional cream-colored pickguard, and LockTone tune-o-matic bridge with stopbar tailpiece.

FEATURES

  • Mahogany body
  • Carved flamed maple top
  • 24.75" Scale set-in mahogany neck
  • Rosewood fretboard

  • ProBucker 2 humbucking neck pickup with coil-split
  • ProBucker 3 humbucking bridge pickup with coil-split
  • LockTone tune-o-matic bridge
  • LockTone stopbar tailpiece

Excellent guitar for the price

By Mike Butcher

from Galena Ohio

Comments about Epiphone Limited Edition Les Paul PlusTop PRO Electric Guitar:

First of all Antique Natural color is really Trans Amber. Side-by-side it sounds exactly like my LesPaul studio. Right out-of-the-box the set up and intonation were perfect. The neck has some beef to it not a slim as the 60s not as fat as a 50s. The tuners felt smooth and were easy to use. The bridge seems high-quality. The pick ups which is now metal feels nice. I could not find any flaws in the finish. The fretboard feels like it has been leveled and filed. No string buzz or dead spots on the neck. The bridge pick up could be hotter. Overall I am extremely pleased with my purchase.

Amazing Tone

By Joseph Shahoud

from Lexington, SC

Comments about Epiphone Limited Edition Les Paul PlusTop PRO Electric Guitar:

I love this guitar. The Probucker pickups are exceptional. I almost got a different model that featured the Gibson '57 classics; I even test drove it. After reading and reading everything I could about the Probuckers, I decided to take a leap of faith and go with the Standard Plustop Pro w/ the Probuckers without actually playing one. Boy, was that the best decision I have made in a long time. The tone is exceptional, the coil taps are absolutely fantastic. The sounds that come out of this thing sound like it should have cost well over a grand easily. So why then didn't I rate it 5 stars? Here is why. These Epiphone Les Pauls are supposed to be set at the factory. Well, they are not; not by any stretch. The intonation was, well, all over the place. It was horrible. After still struggling with intonation issues I realized that the neck is not straight. It has a bit of a concave arc to it. I am hoping once I straighten it and throw a new pair of D'Addario XL 10's on it, my intonation issues will go away. Would I buy another one of these again? Absolutely! I love this guitar. I will love it more once I get it set up properly, that's all. The finish of the guitar is pristine. It was packaged beautifully and was a true sight to see once it was unpacked.

Awesome Les Paul

By Todd Hall

from Norwich, NY

Comments about Epiphone Limited Edition Les Paul PlusTop PRO Electric Guitar:

I just bought this Les Paul in the desertburst finish and it is beautiful! The color is deep and the maple top matches great. The quality exceeded my expectations and it plays just as well as a higher priced Gibson LP. I can't find a single flaw in it. The sound is great too, and the coil splitting gives you many options. I am extremely pleased with the guitar and am glad I purchased it to add to my collection. You won't be disappointed with this one!

A really good value

By CHRISTINE BERGER

from Mahtomedi, Minnesota

Comments about Epiphone Limited Edition Les Paul PlusTop PRO Electric Guitar:

I'm fairly new to the guitar scene, and I've never played a Gibson Les Paul, but for my money this was a REALLY good value( Guitar Center matched a competitors price). It sounds great, feels great, and the DesertBurst finish is far more beautiful than the website pictures reveal. It looks like a piece of fine furniture! Looking forward to spending some time with my new "friend".

Comments about Epiphone Limited Edition Les Paul PlusTop PRO Electric Guitar:

I have 0ver 40 years of experiencing various conditions of
Les pauls (typically Gibson) , The current epiphones are really good. This example top was book matched perfect.
The action was to high but no problem lowering and adjusting truss rod and no string buzz. Workmanship is excellent. Pickups are good. (Not great but not worth the expense of replacing). Keep in mind the top and back are
Thin veneers. God only knows what wood the body is made out of as the gutiar is light(8lb), but sounds ok.
It's a great value.Nice gutiar. Not a Gibson ....buts that's ok as its not thousands $

Comments about Epiphone Limited Edition Les Paul PlusTop PRO Electric Guitar:

Very disappointing when the 1st one arrived. You could tell it was a b-stock as it had a fret replaced at later time. It was badly discolored and stuck out like a sore thumb. This should not happen on a $$ guitar from Epiphone. Guitar Center was great as usual and ordered a second one that was ok. 2nd one looked and played great (Antique). It does not play like a Gibson. The frets needed some polishing as they were a little rough when bending but they loosen up the more you play it. Great guitar for the money if you can get a good one. Guitar Center has the best no worry customer service! Thanks.

Comments about Epiphone Limited Edition Les Paul PlusTop PRO Electric Guitar:

I absolutely love this guitar. The sound that comes from this guitar is amazing. Solid body that gives it great tone. Top of the line pick ups, Slim neck feels great and easy to play. I took this guitar to my buddy Rick Sinkoe, he owns a few Gibson guitars. When he found out what i paid for this guitar, he was shocked. He said that he paid $6,000 for his Gibson and that except for the Gibson pick ups being slightly better and the headstock that reads Epiphone, there's not a $5,000 difference between the two guitars.

Comments about Epiphone Limited Edition Les Paul PlusTop PRO Electric Guitar:

I am a multi-instrumentalist and avid golfer. In other words, I buy instruments for my skill level. I mainly play bass because my musical education in the orchestra primed me for the instrument. However, I have always had an interest in guitar and have kept a cheap acoustic and electric guitar in my collection. My son has taken an interest in the instrument in the last year and I have maxed out the capabilities of my cheaper guitars.

I went in looking for a Fender American Standard because I am used to the shape and I wanted Fender's Patented 5-way-switch. As I walked into my local GC, an employee was playing "Stairway" on a beautiful Gibson Les Paul. I asked to play it and the feel was amazing. (I could never spend more than $800-900 on any instrument especially if I know that the cheaper version is essentially the same.)

I was shown a new Epiphone version of what I played and this guitar is it. I will admit that the Gibson's pick-ups created a "better sound" than the Epiphone. However, the difference is hardly noticeable and probably imaginary. In either case, my six channel Behringer and pre-amp fixed any issue that I may have noticed with tone.

I have not had to rip apart this guitar but based on the quality of the knobs and switches and the quality in which they are installed shows that this guitar has solid electronics.

If you are a beginner, this guitar is not for you. I say this because the value of learning on a cheap instrument is priceless. Also, guitar is something that takes practice. It is also painful for the first month to year of practice. You do not need to play till you bleed but you need to play till it hurts to form callouses. I saved close to $200.00 (this includes tax I didn't have to pay for new) on my guitar because somebody gave up. If you need a Les Paul, buy an entry level one.

Inspected and Setup in USA. GREAT VALUE. The Craftsmanship is good but binding will more than likely have minute flaws that does not effect play.

I play at church and record at home. No funding for new gear so it's great to get such a quality instrument at such a reasonable cost. I wish it was a Gibson, but frankly, it plays as well and sounds as good as Gibson LP Studios I tried.

I am amazed by this guitar. The Probucker pickups sound great and I love the feel of the slim tapper neck. I had been debating whether to spend more for a Gibson, but I'm glad I didn't. The tone, the sustain, the feel, and the look (Antique Natural is gorgeous) are all fantastic.
