Overview

Epiphone celebrates the 50th anniversary of the British Invasion with the return of one of its most iconic and original designs, the Ltd. Ed. G-1275 6-string and 12-string Doubleneck. The Ltd. Ed. G-1275 Doubleneck once again makes one of rock' most iconic instruments available to the world at a price anyone can afford.

The G-1275 is based on the vintage original œ1235 Doubleneck that was first produced at the legendary Gibson/Epiphone Kalamazoo, Michigan factory in 1963. It quickly became one of the most sought-after and original guitars in rock. It was not only embraced by British rockers like Pete Townshend of the Who, Jimmy Page of Led Zeppelin, and John McLaughlin but also Elvis Presley and bluesman Earl Hooker. When Epiphone first reintroduced the Doubleneck, it too became a legend thanks to The Flaming Lips. Now, it' back again with that one-of-a-kind sound at an affordable price.

The SG Story
The SG œSolid Guitar body style on which the G-1275 Doubleneck is based was first introduced in 1961 as a replacement for the Les Paul Standard which went briefly out of production in the early '60s. The SG was called the "fretless wonder" for its low frets and fast action and the twin horn cutaway design was like nothing on the market. Its light but balanced weight made it the perfect guitar for stage and studio work and even in the form of the G-1275 Doubleneck, its surprisingly balanced and easy to play.

A Rock Icon
Epiphone's Ltd. Ed. G-1275 has a select mahogany body with a C=cherry finish. Both the 12-string and 6-string necks are made from mahogany and share a 1960s SlimTaperTM shape, a 12" radius and a 25.75" scale. Both necks also feature Rosewood fingerboards with single layer ivory binding, medium jumbo frets, and pearloid parallelogram block inlays. The 12-string features a 1.85" nut width while the 6-string is cut to the standard 1.68". Machine heads are period-correct œDeluxe Tulip Button tuners with a pro 18:1 ratio.

High Flying Sound
The Ltd. Ed. G-1275 isn™t just eye catching, it sounds extraordinary, too. The 12-string half of the G-1275 features an Alnico Classic humbucker in the neck position and an Alnico Classic Plus humbucker in the bridge position. The 6-string body is powered by an open coil Alnico Classic humbucker in the neck and an open coil Alnico Classic Plus humbucker at the bridge. Both pickups are controlled by full function Black Speed Knobs for volume and tone that are powered by full-size 500K potentiometers.

Epiphone Hardware You Can Trust
Epiphone has also re-created the one-of-a-kind hardware and pickguard that make the Ltd. Ed. G-1275 one of the most easily recognized guitars in rock. The 6-string and 12-string each have their own Epiphone all-metal 3-way toggle switch for pickup selection. There is also a second œmaster all-metal 3-way toggle switch located between the 6-string and 12-string bridge. From here, players can choose the 12-string (up), the 6-string (down) or both (middle) for unlimited tone combinations. The G-1275 Custom features Epiphone' famous LockTone bridge and special ABS style œClaw tailpieces which yields incredible sustain. The all Nickel hardware also includes Epiphone' heavy duty ¼ output jack.

Comments about Epiphone Limited Edition G-1275 Custom Double Neck Electric Guitar:

I've had a doubleneck for some time, but it's a lesser brand name - and I wanted to have one that's better quality. The G-1275 is a bit lighter than my other one with much better electronics. Clean or crunchy, the G-1275 sounds great. These things are a bit of a beast to play, but you're probably not playing it all night long. I got a Gibson Fatboy strap to go with it, and the guitar is quite comfortable.

I play mainly with a worship team, and a doubleneck isn't something I use a lot. But there are times when the variety of tones works out great. I'll be playing the doubleneck in church a lot more now that I have a better quality instrument.

Comments about Epiphone Limited Edition G-1275 Custom Double Neck Electric Guitar:

I wanted this for nearly 30 years and I finally got one. Glad they started making the white again, not a fan of the cherry. Decent price. Sounds and feels good. No reason to get the overpriced Gibson.

Comments about Epiphone Limited Edition G-1275 Custom Double Neck Electric Guitar:

I bought this guitar online and unfortunately a couple arrived at the store with defects and had to be returned. This is no fault of Guitar Center they received the items from Epi flawed. That's the bad. Now the good. Guitar Center did everything they could to make it right. They went way out of their way and I received a very good guitar. Please see "Service/Delivery Comments" for my advice.

I made some upgrades which in my opinion really helped the guitar aesthetically as well as for sound. I replaced the knobs with gold and black combo (see the photo). I also replaced the 6 string bridge pup with a Gibson 500T. The 500T really kicks in the distortion nicely but you have to back off the volume just a pinch for clear or it will sound distorted (fair warning). Its worth it to make the guitar sing. I also paid for a pro setup another well worth it investment.

Comments about Epiphone Limited Edition G-1275 Custom Double Neck Electric Guitar:

So I was too excited when a double neck shows up on a GC Mystery Sale. I had the normal conversations with spouse and buddies.........but when the GC Customer Service person said they only had 12 left, and this was a double neck with a 12 string, I took that as a sign to place the order.

At church I tell the Worship Arts pastor that I was having an NGD that week and he says he is short of ANY electric guitars for the next couple of Sundays. He asked if I could play. I thought I would go with my Martin 12 string acoustic and my Gibby SG, but I tossed caution to the wind with bringing the G-1275.

Wow. This guitar laid down the foundation to every song with the 12 ringing in the cleaves, and burst into Hendrix-style gospel on the 6 string with the pedal-pumped sustain/fuzz.

Some said heavy. Some said weak setup. I was prepared for the weight, and actually bounded off the floor as the guitar was placed on my shoulder strap. The hardest part is getting used to the position of each neck. New guitar, new arm reach and positioning.

Otherwise, this gets me to the church on time!

Comments about Epiphone Limited Edition G-1275 Custom Double Neck Electric Guitar:

This guitar is perfect for playing "Hotel California" or "Stairway to Heaven" and covering the tune on one guitar. It plays well and everything works great once you personalize your set-up. It really is nice. Thousands less than the Gibson for a guitar you won't use all of the time. Much better than the Dan Electro, ( although that guitar isn't bad) the Epiphone has the good tone. I like it.

I had to adjust the height of the bridge on the 6 string. That was all I had to do however. Otherwise this is a great instrument for the money! Action is sweet, tone awesome, looks fabulous! Now if I could only play like John McClaughlin or Alex Lifeson!

Comments about Epiphone Limited Edition G-1275 Custom Double Neck Electric Guitar:

Being an avid Gibson player for many years, I was a little hesitant purchasing an Epiphone. Even was expecting it to be somewhat lower in quality than it's USA counterpart. I have to say though, quite impressed with it so far. Out of the box I was looking for flaws or cheap build but, this wasn't the case. Looks and feels great. Even the setup was pretty good right out of the box. Action, intonation, pickup height, necks, etc... At 12 pounds, it really doesn't feel much heavier than my Les Pauls. Naturally, the balance is neck heavy but, so is my Firebird. You get used to that, just keep your left hand on it, lol. The only negative comment I can make is that, I had just assumed the body cutaways were same as the SG. The 1275 cutaways are narrower and shallower, so them last few notes in Stairway solo are a bit of a reach, haha. The case is your average quality and where the neck heels rest was a little high, whereas having to put pressure on lid to close it, also puts pressure on the far end of the necks. Simple fix was taking my fist and applying pressure to neck rests to scrunch them down a little, now it fits in case just fine. It's a novelty guitar but, is decent quality and will be fun stage candy next time playing Xanadu, or Hotel California.
