Overview

First introduced in the late '50s, the ES series became an instant rock classic, bringing the feel and look of an archtop to a generation of players who had grown up playing solid body guitars like the Les Paul. The ES-335, the first in the ES series, was an instant success. Now Epiphone introduces the ES-335 PRO - an instrument with its roots firmly planted in the classic era when Epiphone's Kalamazoo factory was producing rock's most legendary instruments.

Featuring an ES-style body with Alnico Classic PRO humbucker pickups, the new ES-335 PRO semi-hollowbody from Epiphone turns back the clock while breaking new ground in sound and style. Other classic features include a tune-o-matic bridge and stopbar tailpiece for incredible sustain, Wilkinson vintage-style tuning machines, and a rosewood fretboard adorned with small block inlay. Case sold separately.

Features
  • Arched maple top and back
  • 24.75" Scale set-in mahogany neck
  • Rosewood fretboard with small block inlay
  • 22 Medium jumbo frets
  • Alnico Classic Pro neck humbucker with coil-split
  • Alnico Classic Pro Plus bridge humbucker with coil-split
  • LockTone tune-o-matic bridge
  • LockTone stopbar tailpiece

I ordered this guitar without having ever seen one...I was curious. I picked it up at the store seven days later. Out of the box at the store it looked great and was correctly set up. It weighs right at 7.5 pounds. I didn't care for the strings it came with and changed them for a set that I like. While I had the strings off I taped up the fingerboard and polished the frets with light automotive compound. The frets were okay but I prefer them polished. By the way, the fingerboard is rosewood as opposed to the baked maple that Gibson is offering these days. I did not make any other adjustments to the factory set-up. The pickups are fine, the coil tap option is something I had not experienced previously and I was surprised that the humbuckers when tapped did not sound thin or weak...nice feature. I took it on a gig and used it for a few songs, it played and sounded great. This would be a good deal at twice the price.

After waiting @ 4- 5 weeks (back ordered) I received the FIRST one. It looked nice, played well and I was happy. Although, the first night on a gig (under lights) I noticed that the neck had a fine crack in it next to the headstock. Therefore, (having waited so long for the FIRST guitar) and because it was "in stock" on GC's website, I immediately ordered a replacement guitar. After a few days of not getting a order confirmation from GC I tried contacting GC via live chat. I was repeatedly told that it would "ship today" (I was told this 2-3 times in a 2-3 day period). So, I called the website# and again was told that "it would ship today". Well, it didn't. Apparently the warehouse didn't have any in stock so it was shipped out of a store somewhere. I had it shipped to my local GC (to be sure it was OK and to return the FIRST defective guitar). The GC rep opened the box and the neck was completely broken off of the SECOND guitar. We where all blown away EXCEPT another guy that worked at GC. He said that he's seen several (3-4) of this same model with the same neck issue. Sounds like an Epiphone design issue. SO, after all of this pain, the GC service manager (Aaron) was VERY COOL and because of all the hassle he gave me a good deal on a Dot 335 that he had in stock. I played it before the deal was made and it plays and sounds MUCH better than the ES 335 Limited Edition Pro. Moral of this story is "don't waste your dough on the Pro.

Comments about Epiphone Limited Edition ES-335 PRO Electric Guitar:

So I've been playing this guitar for a week now and have to say it's one of my favorites. it plays really good, sounds amazing and looks beautiful. It definitely has that 335 sound that I've been looking for. the finish is great and stays in tune. I can honestly say it has exceeded my expectations. The only thing that I didn't like it's the switch which you can clearly tell is not quality. I'll be replacing it with a switchcraft so it's all good. I highly recommend this guitar to any 335 fans that don't want to spend 3000+ on a Gibson.

Comments about Epiphone Limited Edition ES-335 PRO Electric Guitar:

Guitar plays and sounds better than I expected. Nice neck, no fret buzz, pickups sound good and tone/volume are smooth. I am very satisfied with the way the guitar plays and feels. Glad I made the purchase. Only needed to lower the action and adjust the intonation on a couple of strings. The build quality and finish are nice and I expect the guitar to give many years of good service.

To get a five rating I would like a little better tuning machines but this is just a minor complaint as I have no intention of changing them.

    Guitar Center business model sucks

Comments about Epiphone Limited Edition ES-335 PRO Electric Guitar:

Ordered online. The guitar was a floor model with no paperwork from the manufacturer. Got the guitar home and one of the tone knobs was broken. Had to travel 90 miles to exchange it for another floor model. Normal businesses that sell floor models do so by; 1) telling the customer that is what they are getting and 2) discounting the merchandise. Neither was done in this case. Not happy about that.

Comments about Epiphone Limited Edition ES-335 PRO Electric Guitar:

Been playing for over a year. Feels and sounds great -- what a deal!! Lucky to have gotten the Cherry - Limited Edition at such a good price! Almost got the es339 pro but I like this size better. It's not immaculate, bridgepiece has a few scuffs and isn't super shiny. And the f-hole finishing could be better. But no cracks, everything works and looks great!
Highly recommend Epiphone for beginners/novice players. Good quality at an affordable price!

Comments about Epiphone Limited Edition ES-335 PRO Electric Guitar:

Let's face it--this is not a $3000 Gibson 335, but this is also is in no way a bad guitar. This is a great, leas expensive guitar that feels and sounds great. I was pleasantly surprised by the quality and craftsmanship. The Cherry finish is superb, frets were finished nicely (no sharp edges) and overall guitar is very nice. The setup needed very minor tweaking to my liking. The frets were dull and scratchy and needed polished, but that was no big deal. I always change stock strings. I polished the frets, oiled the fretboard, added some Ernie Ball 10-46's and now have a great guitar with great setup. The tone is so nice! Honestly, you can only hear very minor difference between this Epi 335 and its Gibson counterpart. If you're considering the Epiphone 335, do it. I have zero regrets and didn't have to sell a kidney to add another great guitar to my collection.

This is a players guitar. For those of you debating between the Gibson and epi, I get it- I was there. And yea if I had 3gs to drop on the original, I would. But don't fret-this epi is the real deal. Came in perfect condition. Plays sweet out of the box. Might upgrade pots, nut, and electronics down the line, but it's definitely not needed. Anyone who picks it this up will know that with the Gibson, you're pretty much paying a premium for the "legend". This is an awesome instrument. Just pick one up and let the music play

Comments about Epiphone Limited Edition ES-335 PRO Electric Guitar:

Great guitar for the money--a lot of "bang for the buck". I once owned a late '70's Gibson ES-335 (alas, sold long ago!) and the Epi Pro version compares very favorably to that--and for a fraction of the price. I'm not totally sold on the coil splitting feature as, in my opinion, simply using a Gibson 50's wiring scheme would do just as well. However, all said, the pickups are pretty decent and I have no immediate plans to switch them out.

If I could make one suggestion to Epiphone, it would be to change the head stock design to that used on, for example, circa '62 Casinos (i.e., closer in appearance to the Gibson "open book"). The early 60's design would look far better, and be more appropriate, than the ungainly "stretched out" head stock. A '62 style head stock would make the PRO look closer to its pricier Gibson cousin but with a distinct "Epi" flavor.
