Overview

The Ultra-III - Where Tradition Meets Technology
We all know that deep down, most guitarists love the classic designs and shapes. That's why Epiphone designed the new Les Paul Ultra-III with the same look and features of a traditional Les Paul but added new technology giving you a guitar that's a real Les Paul but also so much more!

Two Great Pickup Systems in One Guitar
At the heart of the new Ultra-III are two pickup systems. Powering the first are Epiphone's new ProBucker humbucking pickups patterned after Gibson's famous BurstBuckers. With authentic 18% nickel silver base and cover, Elektrisola wire, accurate bobbins, slugs and screws and sand casted Alnico-II magnets, they replicate that classic "Patent Applied For" airy tone that defined rock and roll. The second system features Shadow(tm) Germany's patented NanoMag pickup embedded discretely at the end of the fingerboard. Featuring three samarium cobalt magnets, an air coil, and active electronics, this low-impedance pickup captures all the subtle body acoustics and string harmonics. Together, you get powerful humbucker-driven rock crunch as well as shimmering acoustic-like tones and everything in-between.

One-Of-A-Kind Electrics Built-in
If you thought the Ultra-II was jam-packed with modern features, you won't believe what Epiphone has designed into the Ultra-III. Built discretely into the bridge pickup mounting ring is a full-function, chromatic tuner. Push it's ON/OFF button and sound is immediately muted when the tuner activated. Eleven color-coded LED's identify the note as well as whether it's sharp, flat or in-tune. Also, to allow quick and seamless changes between each pickup system, the Ultra-III's NanoMag Volume knob now doubles as an A/B switch. Just push it in and quickly toggle between Magnetic, NanoMag or both pickup systems with no delay and no "pop." Two additional LED's on the pickup mounting ring provide a visual indicator of which pickup system is active (Red=NanoMag; Blue-Magnetic or Red/Blue=Both).

Hook-Up Directly To Your Computer
The Ultra-III features three different outputs. By using the standard 1/4" MONO output, both the Humbuckers and NanoMag are mixed into one signal. When you plug another 1/4" cable into it's STEREO output, the Humbuckers are routed through one cable and the NanaMag the other. In this way, you can send the Humbuckers to your favorite guitar amp and the NanoMag to the PA or an acoustic guitar amp. Using the A/B switch, you can now change "on-the-fly" between the two outputs. The third output is USB. Using a USB cable (included), you can plug directly into your computer and use guitar applications such as Native Instruments GuitarRig 4LE download to play your guitar through a variety of simulated amplifiers and effects and listen through your computer speakers or headphones. GuitarRig also features a recorder, a metronome, a tuner and more.

Great Tone Woods and Hardware
While the Ultra-III is packed with technology, it still maintains the same basic specifications that made Epiphone Les Pauls the choice of so many guitarists including a solid Mahogany body with glued-in Mahogany neck and comfortable SlimTaper neck profile, a flame Maple veneer top and Rosewood fingerboard. The result is a modern guitar with that classic Les Paul tone and sustain. Like most Epiphone's, it's also equipped with Epi's patent-applied-for LockTone locking tune-o-matic bridge and stopbar tailpiece for increased sustain and string changing ease as well as quality Grover 16:1 machine heads for tuning accuracy and stability.

Limited Lifetime Warranty
Like every Epiphone, it features their Limited Lifetime warranty backed by world famous 24/7/365 day Gibson Customer Service. If you want a versatile professional instrument designed for live performance or studio and capable of both Les Paul crunch and real acoustic-like tones, the Epiphone Ultra-III is it! Case sold separately.

Comments about Epiphone Les Paul Ultra-III Electric Guitar:

I had placed an order for a special edition Joe Bonammasa special edition Les Paul with added Bigsby Tailpiece only to discover it was sold out. I quickly jumped on the Epiphone Les Paul Ultra III, and I'm glad that I did. Guitar Center honored the 15% weekend discount even though it was several days after the original sale. The guitar arrived in excellent condition and in tune. A gorgeous instrument. Playable right out of the box. This is my second recent Epiphone electric purchase. I am pleased with the workmanship. If I made a living playing guitar, I'd probably recommend the Gibson Les Paul. For an intermediate level player such as myself, I highly recommend the Epiphone Les Paul Ultra III for the price. The new features are truly amazing. You won't be disappointed.

Comments about Epiphone Les Paul Ultra-III Electric Guitar:

Great instrument. Real LP. Shadow NanoMag does a very good job thought not quite like Martin and others . But the buzz at 6th and some at 5th strings is very disappointing. This seems to be a chronic problem that Epi knows about for a long time but hasn't taken care of for unknown reason. They advise Setup as a cure but don't cover it. If that's what is required for a bran new instrument, Gibson should cover it. A new car should not run with a whining noise, should it?

Comments about Epiphone Les Paul Ultra-III Electric Guitar:

i got this guitar for my birthday and bought it right the GC website. i was pumped to open it up when it finally came. i asked for the Midnight ebony because of the cool looking color on the website. however, when i opened the box, i noticed that the midnight ebony was more of a faded green color. also, the satin finish is good but the white stripe above and below the fretboard looks like a yellow cream as does the stripe that outlines the body of the guitar. besides the color though i really enjoy this guitar and all the features. I suggest to go with the vintage sunburst, seems that that one would look most similar to the actual picture. hope this helps.

Comments about Epiphone Les Paul Ultra-III Electric Guitar:

Upon opening the box, I was impressed with the fit and finish of this guitar. My guitar came to me with dented pickups and needed an immediate bridge adjustment to lower the action. The strings that came on it are stiff and feel corroded. Must have been a returned item. G.C Pro is making good on it though by sending me a replacement guitar. The guitar is lighter weight than my Gibsons and has some great features such as the tuner and the Nano Mag pickup.

            Update after 6 months

            By Rick Gaston

Comments about Epiphone Les Paul Ultra-III Electric Guitar:

I have had the Ultra 3 now for about 6 months and I still cannot figure out what I like most about the guitar. I have let some firends at work play it and they thought it had just as much sustain as the 3 or 4 gibson LPs that they have owned. They actually liked the neck better. I love the smoothness of the neck. It makes it so easy to play. This guitar can make any sound you could ever want. Actually, it makes so many different sounds that I can never decide exactly how I want it set up. I have left it just like it came from the factory and will probably take it in and get it setup when I get the strings changed. The only downside it the built in tuner. It will get you close, but the light setup that it uses to tell you if the string is in tune is not as precise as a tuner pedal or plug in tuner. Also, it seems to want to tune everything just a bit on the sharp side. When I tune the guitar with another tuner, the built in tuner says its a little flat. But, I just use the tuner button as a mute anyway, so no big deal for me. I believe the built in tuner is set at 440hz? I wish there was a way to modify that, but oh well. The software it comes with is increadible. I am using it mostly to play around with tones and effects to help decide what kind o pedals and amps I might want in the future. You could use it live by runing your guitar into a laptop then going to a PA system. But be warned, I blew my computer speakers, guess they dont like loud music.

Comments about Epiphone Les Paul Ultra-III Electric Guitar:

Tried one of these out at Guitar Center in Marrietta. This was a great guitar, same quality as every other epiphone les paul, but with more features and options. The accoustic sounds you can get are the best I have ever heard from an elevtric guitar. The electric pickups are very good, just as you would expect from a higher end epiphone. Being able to mix in acoustic and electric sounds in one guitar sounds just great. Getting one ASAP.

Comments about Epiphone Les Paul Ultra-III Electric Guitar:

I've had melody maker's and an old Gibson SG. I went back and forth about, do I pick Gibson or Epiphone until the Ultra III. It has on board tuner, acoustic pick-up and USB and slick Guitar Rig 4 software. It's the lightest Les Paul I ever held, but still had great sustain. The best thing is Guitar Center, Tacoma, WA. set it up beautifully!
