This is an amazing beginner/intermediate guitar. I've always wanted to go for an all black Les Paul without going for a more expensive Black Beauty or equivalent. I tried this guitar out at the local Guitar Center, along with a Flying V, Fender Stratocaster, Fender Telecaster, Schecter Omen 6, Epiphone SG400 and Gibson Les Paul. I can honestly say that the only guitar better in tone and quality is the Gibson, and even that's only just a little bit better. The jet black ebony looks really great without the white pick-guard on the Standard. I tried this guitar at the shop with a B-52 AT112 Amp, and it sounds great on overdrive with the gain and tone turned all the way up. I like a nice, heavy sound (somewhat like a PRS, but better) to a guitar, but you can also turn the gain down and the contour up for a more natural, light sound. An excellent choice of guitar when you're looking for an opening level electric that sounds close to the genuine Gibson.

I purchased a Epiphone Les Paul Studio in worn cherry. Upon removing from shipping box, I noticed 3 areas on the fret board where there were large nicks in the wood. Later that day, when I plugged it into my amp, I discovered that both volume and both tone controls did not function. When I took it to a local luthier to have it looked at, he discovered the pickups were connected wrong according to the Epiphone schematic. He also discovered a Large drop of solder had shorted out the pickup selector switch. The luthier also informed me that it is common for Epiphone Les Pauls to have the bridge mounted in the wrong location making intonation impossible. Sure enough, when he checked it, he was not able to adjust the bridge saddles on the E & A string far enough forward to intonate. I ended up having to purchase a new bridge.

Best Guitar for the Money

By xgnrx

from Pittsburgh, PA

Comments about Epiphone Les Paul Studio Electric Guitar:

The Epiphone Les Paul Studio has been my guitar of choice ever since I purchased it 2 years ago. The sound is amazing when playing through a clean channel on Rhythm, while a little more traversed in treble. It can handle any playing style and genre. I'm usually wailing out Slash-like riffs, and the quality of the notes is utterly indescribable. I would suggest chrome humbuckers, for I have heard the stock and they detract a bit from the sound. The only fault I have had with my Les Paul is the G string machine head is now loose, and the input jack is a little sketchy. All in all, the best guitar you can buy for the price, sound, look, and ease of play.

Better than the Epi' Standard

By Kellen Davies

from Hollister, Ca

Comments about Epiphone Les Paul Studio Electric Guitar:

I played this guitar today with average expectations. But after I'd sat down with it for a while; I was really amazed. I also played an Epiphone Pes Paul Standard, and actually liked the Studio better. It's lighter, the neck is skinnier, and it's just all around more fast and fun to play on. As soon as I can scrape together some money I'm deffinantly buying this guitar!

good deal

Comments about Epiphone Les Paul Studio Electric Guitar:

i have always wanted a les paul but i did not have the $3000 for a good one.after i found out that this guitar body wise is almost the same as a high dollar gibson and a few modifications this could be a great guitar.so i bought this guitar put a graphite nut on installed some gibson pro burstbuckers and changed the strings with some zakk wylde 11-46 and had the guitar set up by a guitar tech, i have to say that i was totaly blown away!!!! this guitar was equally sound equivlant to a high dollar gibson. all total 700.00 and that is no bull!! so if you want a good guitar without the high dollad price tag do not overlook this guitar and upgrades it was worth every penny

Comments about Epiphone Les Paul Studio Electric Guitar:

I just like to say I was a Gibson studio lespaul owner for 10 years. Moneys got low and I had to sell all my equptment. I bought this guitar thinking I was getting something lesser than what I had. To my supprise not only did the axe sound as good as my studio but the neck was much faster.I would recumend this guitar to anyone... I got the woodgrain finish and love it ....others said it is a thing of beauty

Sweet Axe! The best for the price!

By Justin J.

from Mukilteo, WA

Comments about Epiphone Les Paul Studio Electric Guitar:

I love les pauls, but was on a budget and didn't want a bolt-on neck, so this guitar was perfect for me. It has a mahogany set neck, and a nice, thick, beautiful body. It has a great sound from its hot, open coil humbuckers, even through a 10w practice amp(Although my 100w sounds so much better). It is a little heavy, but the quality makes up for it.

Great For the Price

By LesPaulfan2695

Comments about Epiphone Les Paul Studio Electric Guitar:

This is a guitar that you can buy for less money than a gibson. The epiphone les paul studio is the same thing as the gibson version except it is made in a factory. For the most part it has the same hardware. And With the gibson you are pretty much paying for the gibson name anyway.

Excellent guitar, exceptional value!!

By No1KISSfan

Comments about Epiphone Les Paul Studio Electric Guitar:

I have always wanted a Les Paul but was never able to afford a Gibson, so I started to look at the Epiphone's. At first I was skeptical. I know, made by Gibson and all, but come on. How could it be even close to a real Les Paul? Well, let me tell you......It's real close. This studio Les Paul is incredible!! I got mine in stunning ebony. The finish is like a mirror. It comes with Alnico Humbucker open coil pick-ups, a set neck, Grover tuners, a black pickguard......I mean, all that for a really cheap price is fantastic. It plays like a dream and I recommend it to anyone, even if you can afford a Gibson. I'll never buy another brand of guitar again!!

nice guitar

Comments about Epiphone Les Paul Studio Electric Guitar:

The Epiphone LP Studio is a great guitar for starers, but if you are going to buy something in this price range go for the Epi LP Standard, its got better features, block inlays, better pickups, and just better quality.

AWESOME ephiphone les paul studio

By roadsurfer

from Jackson, NJ

Comments about Epiphone Les Paul Studio Electric Guitar:

Sound is outrageous, can't beat it for the price. Warm, full sound, plays clean or dirty with great distortion. Like the independent tone and volume controls for each humbucker. Frets spaced just right, didn't need time to "get used to it", just picked it up and started playing. I've been playing for two years now at an intermediate level playing at home and with friends. Digging it more than my Strat. Tried 5 different guitars in this price range at Guitar Center and love this one!

Pretty Good Guitar, BUT....

By Charlie

from Moorpark, California

Comments about Epiphone Les Paul Studio Electric Guitar:

I picked this guitar out for my 13th birthday after playing for seven months, and I fell in love with it. After three months of owning it, I was turned onto blues and this guitar was great for it. But than I got into harder rock and also jazz and this guitar didn't sound good. You should get a standard at least for a little extra.

The Best Guitar Ever!!!

By Gianni

from Glastonbury

Comments about Epiphone Les Paul Studio Electric Guitar:

This is my first electric guitar, altough I have tried many others. I truly think that this is the best guitar I have played, except for some of the higher end guitars like Gibson. I plugged it in to the Line 6 Spider 3 30 Watt amp, and it was killer. This guitar can go from heavy distortion to a clean, classical tone. Also, I played it next to a gibson and it sounded almost identical. I definetely reccomend it to begginers and even more experienced players. My guitar teacher even agreed and stated that it was the best guitar for the price.

BEST GUITAR FOR THE $$$$

By Dave

from Richmond, VA

Comments about Epiphone Les Paul Studio Electric Guitar:

I just bought this guitar (ebony). The black shines like crazy! The frets are great and no setup was required...play it right out of the box! It has a great sound whether you play blues to heavy metal. I compared this and the Gibson LP (all mahogany model). The sound difference is noticable to a trained ear, but not worth the extra $500 bucks! I also compared this model with other Epi models...don't bother..it plays and feels better than all of them! I like the stripped down look, but don't worry, there's no stirpped down quality!

Great for beginner to intermediate players!

By foob85

from Vancouver, Washington

Comments about Epiphone Les Paul Studio Electric Guitar:

This is a great guitar for anyone who is starting out on guitar and wants a good buy. The pickups sound great on clean, and have a real growl with some distortion. The only problems I could find with this guitar is that the nut on the cord jack came loose after a bit. Also, I dropped mine onto my 15-watt amp fomr about 3 feet in the air, and it cracked wand warped the neck and rendered it usless. The finish scratches easily, also (mine is solid, gloss black). Other than that, this guitar is a great buy.

Its your call.........

By keepinmystrat

from St. Louis, Missouri

Comments about Epiphone Les Paul Studio Electric Guitar:

If you didn't like the Gibson Les Paul finish, then you wont like this. But, the frets on this guitar were perfect, not one was too sharp. For three hundred dollars, I would have to say I would save another hundred for a Standard. But this guitar does sound great for blues and classic rock. Its a great beginners guitar, but not a good third or fourth guitar.

Great guitar -- Great price!

By Guitar Hero

from Connecticut

Comments about Epiphone Les Paul Studio Electric Guitar:

This is really a great guitar, for a very affordable price. I got it in Ebony, and use it with a Crate GTD65. They say it's the same thing as a standard, but with less "cosmetics." I actually think it looks better than the standard in ebony. This guitar plays great too! I has a very fast neck, and the pick ups are nice. The only downsides are the G tuner, which goes out of tune often, and the taper of the volume and tone controls, but this IS an Epiphone, so I know it can't be perfect. I will be keeping this guitar until at least after the summer, as I have a deal that if I get A LOT better, my parents will get me a Gibson. Before then, I will still be thrilled with my Epi =)
