Overview

Epiphone introduces the Les Paul Special VE (Vintage Edition) electric guitar featuring the classic Les Paul profile with a lightweight Poplar body. The Les Paul Special VE is powered by Epiphone Open Coil humbuckers and is available in beautiful “Vintage Worn” color finishes.

For decades, the Les Paul Special has been one of Epiphone’s best selling electric guitars. And the new Les Paul Special VE—inspired by the Les Paul, the greatest electric guitar in rock—continues the tradition of giving new both players and pros a real Les Paul at a price anyone can afford.

Classic Les Paul profile
The Les Paul Special VE has a Poplar body with a sleek look thanks to the Vintage Worn finish and no binding on the neck or body. The Les Paul VE is cut to the same classic profile of all Les Pauls and has a comfortable and fast Mahogany bolt-on neck with a 1960's SlimTaper D profile. The Rosewood fingerboard has traditional Pearloid "Dot" inlays, a 24.75” scale, a 14” radius, 22 medium jumbo frets, and a standard 1-11/16” nut. Just below the headstock is the famed “bell” shaped truss rod cover found on every Les Paul since the early '50s with “Vintage Edition” in white.

Epiphone Open Coil Humbuckers
The Les Paul Special VE features Epiphone’s world famous open-coil humbuckers with a warm 650R in the neck position and a slightly hotter 700T in the bridge or lead position.Controls include a 3-way pickup selector switch, a Master Volume, and a Master Tone control, each with traditional “Black Speed Knobs” pots with long lasting
500K Ω potentiometers.

All-Metal Hardware
Epiphone features all-metal rock solid hardware on all of its instruments. The Les Paul Special VE comes standard with the legendary Locktone Tune-o-matic bridge and Stopbar tailpiece for easy set up. Tuning is fast and reliable with Epiphone Premium Covered tuners with a 14:1 ratio. The higher the ratio, the more accurate your tuning. The tuners are mounted on an Epiphone Clipped Ear headstock with Les Paul Model in gold and the Epiphone log in silver. In addition, a "2016" Edition logo is on the back of the headstock.

All Epiphones come with a Limited Lifetime Warranty and Gibson’s world famous 24/7/365 Customer Service.

Much better than the lp junior I had a few years back.Light weight ,sounds good,no defects, problems or issues when I unboxed it.Top and back must be veneered as they don't look like poplar.Neck is solid, frets are good.Electronics work as they should and sound pretty good.Realy nice considering the low price point. Also love the "walnut" color similar to fenders walnut brown.Changed the strings, set the intonation oh and lightly buffed the frets and adjusted the pickup heights. It didn't need any additional work.If they are all as goodas this one there will be a lot of happy customers.Really nice guitar considering the low price.

I really needed another guitar like a hole in the head, but for the price, I went for it. This one is number nine and I'm running out of room for them. I expected a gloss finish, since the specs said so, but the flat finish is not a deal breaker. The real issue was the poor quality of the el cheapo tuning heads. I could not fine tune them to save my life and the strings I could tune didn't stay that way. I had Joe, the guitar teach at Guitar Center Detroit (actually in Roseville, MI) upgrade me to Grovers and they are more like what I feel should have been on the guitar in the first place. The screw holes do not line up, but I knew that going in. Besides it's on the back of the headstock and is not all that noticeable. I can live with it There was also some fret buzz, that Joe took care of with a full setup. Not a dream guitar by any means, but I only use it to switch off and on (just for the heck of it) with a Squier Affinity HSS when I'm noodling around in the basement through a Fender Champion 20. For the added cost of the tuners and the labor, I could have had the LP 100, but again no real biggie. It plays decent enough to get me to pick it up more than just once in a while. It'll get some use, but really, not a whole heckuva lot. Between the two of them, I kind of like the Affinity a little better, especially with the reverb maxxed out.. Regarding the bottom line, I'm not so fired up that I would recommend it to anyone but a novice or someone like me, wanting an extra guitar that they don't have to be particularly careful with.

Comments about Epiphone Les Paul Special Vintage Edition Electric Guitar:

I bought the brown one for no particular reason. It arrived today 8-23-16.The first thing I noticed was the light weight, right at 6 lbs.A decent looking brown finish that you can see and feel the grain thru.,they must use veneer on the top and back because it in no way looks like poplar and the sides are opaque.Changed out the strings and it plays and sound very nice. The oickups are better than I remember on the low end epi'sI really needed no adjusting out of the box playabilitywise.Like I said better than I expected, good job on these EPI I'll play it for a couple days and then give it a good going over and set up.

Solid instrument, good components - setup not bad (though needed some tweaks to get the string height and intonation right). Great value for the money!

Comments about Epiphone Les Paul Special Vintage Edition Electric Guitar:

Amazing value! Surprising quality instrument. The finish is matte, vintage sunburst, very attractive. Neck is nice and straight, nice string alignment. Tuners are good quality but not great. After about a week, I replaced the strings to 10-46 of my liking, made a minor truss rod adjustment, and bridge setup with very good results. Light guitar, easy on the shoulder, but not as resonant as a heavier guitar. Good balance with a strap. P'ups sound good, better than previous epiphones I have owned. Quiet electronics that work fine. Fun to play.

Comments about Epiphone Les Paul Special Vintage Edition Electric Guitar:

I gave the three stars not because of how the guitar plays but how it arrived. I am a beginner at playing guitar and I am learning how to play and really like the guitar but, after I took it out of the box there was a little nick in the back of the guitar. I really think that epiphone needs to have better quality control. The guitar plays great and is a very good price point for your first guitar. The lack of quality control is the only downside.

I love this guitar so far! Its amazing. Took a bit for the strings to finally stay adjusted. The only concern I have is this: You guys should make it more apparent to the customer that they are buying JUST the guitar and not a strap and amp cord. Could be a nooby concern but nonetheless, thanks.
