Overview

Since its introduction almost 20 years ago, The Special-II has met the needs of countless musicians with its combination of Les Paul features, great tone and affordability. The Special II Plus Top Limited Edition Electric Guitar is made with a flamed maple top, mahogany body, bolt-on mahogany neck, smooth 22-fret rosewood fingerboard, and is every bit as handsome as its uptown cousins.

Providing the sizzle and snarl that you can only get from humbuckers is a 650R (neck) and 700T (bridge) pickup combo. You'll be amazed how these U.S.A. designed pickups with their high-output magnets add more highs with increased definition and no muddiness. Slightly over-wound, the hotter 700T bridge pickup is smooth but can give you a little extra scream or growl when you need it while never losing its rich combination of enhanced lows and crystal clear highs.

Wow, this is a great guitar for the money. I spent some time deciding on which guitar to buy and after a lot of research I bought the Plus top Limited edition Les Paul Special II and I'm glad I did. I purchased the guitar over Thanksgiving and they were sold out at the store so I had it shipped to my home and the minute I took it out of the packing I knew I had made the right decision. The finish on the guitar is really good and even though it's made in China the attention to detail is all there. The flamed maple top really makes this guitar stand out, much better than the regular finish. Epiphone evidently took the time to ensure that everything was manufactured in accordance with their specs and it doesn't disappoint. I'm an intermediate player and own a Fender and Yamaha acoustic and this guitar is a wonderful addition since it has it's own unique sound. The low E string doesn't buzz at all which is a welcome relief from my Fender which always has.. The guitar does not weigh as much as I thought it would, probably under 10 lbs and it's just a real comfortable size guitar. This is my first guitar with humbucking pickups and I noticed the difference right away. There is no buzz/hum and when you flip the switch over to treble or rhythm it produces a real sweet tone. Crank up your amp and it's a treat! The neck is easy to play and the guitar just feels right with no excess weight. Don't let the price steer you away from this one as it's worth every penny. Buy it and enjoy!!

Came with a nice gouge out of it. Very well packed with bubble wrap and lots of paper. Looked like a floor model. Once I got it cleaned up and restrung it played outstanding. A lot of guitar for the money that's for sure, I'm very impressed with it. Still not happy about the chunk out of it though, probably won't be doing business with Guitar Center again.

Comments about Epiphone Les Paul Special II Plus Limited Edition Electric Guitar:

The Epiphone Les Paul Special II appears to be a solid entry level guitar. It is far superior to the $75 electric guitar I borrowed from my nephew to determine if playing the guitar was even something I could do. While I quickly realized his cheap guitar was not a high quality instrument, I didn't know quite how bad it was until I picked up this affordable and efficient Epiphone. Now I'm strumming some chords, hacking a couple of songs, and clumsily working through the pentatonic scales.

My guitar still needs to be professionally set up. I haven't been able to get rid of the frett buzz on my own, but it is still an excellent beginner tool.

While I understand one gets what they pay for, I can't imaging needing more guitar in the very near future. This was a great purchase.

Comments about Epiphone Les Paul Special II Plus Limited Edition Electric Guitar:

This guitar is the best buy out there. The neck is a little wider than most guitarists are probably used to but its not fatal.Fit and finish are beautiful.Came pretty much perfectly set up right out of the box. All I did was lower the action slightly. After showing it to 3 of my friends, they all bought one.Cant say more than that.

I've been practicing and learning guitar for 2 years and some change now. Nothing big. Just at home stuff. Ive always wanted a Les Paul, and now I have one. No its not the thousand dollar one, but hey, I have it!! I put some bluesy strings on it and set the tone low and warm. Oooooooooo eeeeee, I love this guitar.

Comments about Epiphone Les Paul Special II Plus Limited Edition Electric Guitar:

This guitar was my first ever electric guitar! When I was 14 I had saved up all my money from chores to get it so the moment I finally bought it, it was perfect for me! 9 years later I still play it and have done all my own modifications to it. I've swapped pickups and tuners as well as the bridge entirely. I got a bridge that ended up costing me almost the equivalent of the guitar when I got older lol. This guitar is great and has lasted me quite a long time. I feel like I cant sell it even though I have different guitars now, and quite frankly I don't want to. It sounds awesome still and for anyone looking to start playing guitar this is a GREAT choice. Later on when you can hear a difference I recommend upgrading the parts and this baby will treat you well. Great place to start right here!

Comments about Epiphone Les Paul Special II Plus Limited Edition Electric Guitar:

Personally, I love, love, love...acoustic guitars, and I own quite a few, alright...too many! Nonetheless, playing in a church band, I thought it would be great to have an electric guitar. I've always loved Gibson electric guitars, but I didn't want to make a huge investment...not yet. I purchased this guitar and I love the way it sounds. For the price, it sounds phenomenal. HOWEVER, my biggest complaint are the tuners. They are the absolute worst quality. Half way through a song, the guitar is out of tune. I can tune it and two minutes later, its out again. Overnight, the tuners slip significantly. When tuned and holding...an awesome guitar. I haven't decided if I'm going to trade it in, or keep it and change the tuners. Other than that, the guitar looks awesome and sounds awesome.

I bought this five years ago, it's been now temporarily sacrificed to the "mod gods."
It was bought with the thought of "oh my God, I have a Les Paul!" and less on the fact of price-point and that it may have had bad tuners. I recommend if anyone is serious about making this guitar last, REPLACE THE TUNERS!!!
they make it much less of a pain in the badooskie to play, and boy do I remember re-tuning it after every darn song I'd practice.

My first guitar was a Yamaha spanish style. While gorgeous, the neck is really wide and this deterred me from truly getting into the guitar. A month into lessons, my instructor let me play his Fender Stratocaster. I was in love with the size of the neck and the action. So I started hunting for an affordable electric. I came across the Les Paul Special II in the "transparent blue" color on sale at GS. Not only is it absolutely stunning, but it plays really well for the price. I feel like it needs to be tuned before each session but no big deal. I am absolutely in love with practicing on this!
