I purchased this pack around December of 2006. I love the guitar... speed knobs, smooth neck, great sound-it's no gibson- but it sounds great! The 10-watt amp is good enough for at home practice but if you plan on playing in a band or performing of any kind then you need to look into a larger amp. The cable that comes with it shorted out on me after a month of play but cables are inexpensive so that wasn't that big of a deal... anywhoo... this is a great guitar for beginners and is well worth the money.

If you are a person that is loking for a first guitar....then this is for you but if you've been playing for a while like i was due to the fret buzz that starts after having the guitar for a few months.....i was playing guitar for about 9 months when i first purchased this guitar.....AND I WAS NOT IMPRESSED WHEN THE FRET BUZZ STARTED HAPPENING BECAUSE IT ONLY HAS A 15 DAY COMPANY WARRANTY....i highly recommend the epiphone les paul standard if you're looking for a guitar that lasts....i have now been playing guitar for 2 years and i purchased the epiphone les paul standard 5 months ago and extremly recommend it.

Best Beginner Guitar Out There

By CRUE13

from Schaumburg, IL

This is the best starter guitar you can buy without spending an arm and a leg. Ihave had it for nearly four months, and it hasn't even shown a trace of going out of tune. The amp is alright for a 10W. I bought the Line Six Spider 30W which brings out the true sound of the guitar. The static on the 10W drove me crazy. My only complaint is that the pickups don't have their own tone and volume knobs, but you can still make the guitar sound like gold. If you are looking for a great starter, buy this guitar before Epiphone drives the price up.

a great beginner package

By Jaybo377

from Prestonsburg, KY

The Epiphone Les Paul Special 2 Player Pack is an awesome package for anyone on a budget. You won't find a better guitar and amp for anywhere close to this price. A friend of mine who is learning to play guitar puchased one of these. After picking it up and playing it I was impressed. The guitar has a nice feel to it, and the pickups sound good. The neck also has a nice feel and plays fast. The guitar feels like any other les paul. The amp is pretty good for a practice amp. This is definetely the best package for the money.

Epiphone Les Paus Special ll Player Pack

By Chevellefan1

from Bowling Green,MO

This is a great guitar for people have just started playing. It's a great deal because you get the guitar, gig bag,10W amp, strap, picks, instructional video, and a tuner. I started out with this guitar and it sounds really good for what I payed for it. I now have a newer amp for it and effects pedals. The amp they give you is okay, but I would recomend a Marshall,Crate,or Fender amp. The tone sounds great for the kind of music I play. As I said before if your a first time player I would really recomend this guitar.

Not bad at all

By Chiodos fan

from Memphis, TN

I've owned this Guitar for 3 years now and it was definitely worth the money. I had always heard that Epiphones' were cheap Gibson knockoffs, but I totally disagree. The neck is not too fat and it's fairly comfortable to play. The default strings are ok (I had to replace them 3 weeks after I bought it.) The tone isn't too bad...for the price. I only have a couple of minor complaints. The cable that comes with it needs to be replaced the second after you buy it. The strap is just as bad(I was playing when the strap snapped and my guitar crashed to the ground and, if you can believe it, it still works just as good.) This guitar does not stay tuned at all, I have to re-tune it once every hour I play it, no joke. The amp that comes with it isn't the greatest but hey, you're not gonna gig with a starter package so don't worry about it. All in all I'd say this guitar is definitely worth it for the price. Go on and buy it, I promise you won't regret it.

Amazing

By Guitar Whiz 13

from Undisclosed

This guitar is AMAZING for how much it costs. The guitar sounds great and the vintage sunburst looks awesome. The second it is out of the box, it can be played. If you plan on performing you will need a bigger and better amp. Overall this guitar rocks.

Guitar is great but save up for a new amp

By Bruce

from PA

I have been playing guitar for less than a year and this starter pack is great. The guitar is very nice - had some fret buzzing at first but not any more since its broken in. The included amp is good enough to get you started, but after you learn how to play some songs you will want to get a better one with more bass, more punch, and effects. Just got a Spider IV 15W amp and it sounds great with this guitar. So buy this starter pack now and save up for a new amp in about 6 months.

great beginner

By eric

from paramus

ive been playing for about a year and this was the first guitar i got to learn to play. the guitar itself is great quality. its been dropped and no damage has come of this. i also bring this to parties so i dont damage my new lp standard, and you can imagine the wear it takes from that. the amp is small but in small venues can still be heard over my buddies 30w bass playing. the amp works well with the guitar but not with any other guitars really. same for the guitar. its made for the 10w apm and trying to play on any other amps just doesnt sound right. the tuner works well and if you need a quick tuning you dont even have to plug it in cause of the mic. the only problem i have is that the cables that come with any epiphone guitar have been damaged pretty easily. the insulation on the first one i had got twisted off from sitting on my bed and playing. the second that came with my standard had to be taped up because the insulation started separating from the plug as if it had been wire stripped. i would recomend this to any beginer but once you progress like i did, upgrade to a better guitar and amp

Great Guitar

By J Carlson

from Pinehurst NC

This is a really good guitar. It has great sound and comes with a good but kind of small amp. I wish this guitar came with a little distortion box to sound like a rock-heavy metal guitar. Overall this was a very awesome and great guitar. And it was worth the price.

Good guitar. I played it at GuitarCenter and it sounded great. I plugged it into a Line 6 1x12 amp and it was awesome. I myself am looking into getting one.

Great base for a guitar

By FlashJim

With a few replacements, this is a great guitar for the price. New tuners should be at the top of your list. Start with the switch and jack in the electronics department.

Great Guitar

By The Real Bill Clinton

from Undisclosed

Beleive me when I say I'm a beginner, and this is the first guitar I've ever gotten, let alone actually played. Obviously I'm not a pro when it comes to judging guitars, but I due know that this particualar one is a great buy, whether you're just starting or have been playing for a while. Basically this comes with everything you need to get started, including picks, an amp (of course), a tuner, carrying case, and a couple other stuff. The amp is not that great, but that's to be expected out of a $200 deal. I think that this guitar is great and capable of some quality sound, and it definately feels more expensive than the price says. I highly recommend it to both beginners and people who have been playing for a while.

Great for beginning!

By ihavefoundnirvana

from Undisclosed

I was a complete beginner when I got this guitar 8 months ago. It is the best package for the money and the music I play. The guitar goes out of tune easily, and the amp is very staticy, but you can upgrade later. All in all the best beginning guitar.

no

By me

from chapel hill, nc

I got this as my first guitar and amp and i hated it. It was a chore to play, the frets buzzed even after adjusting the action and the truss rod, it was just cumbersome and didnt feel right in my hands. I decided to trade it in and so i bought a small fender practice amp and an epiphone g-400. That was definitly the right decision, the g-400 sounds great and is light and comfortable so you can play for hours on end. Dont get this package. On a similar note dont get squires either, the wood actually falls apart and everything on the guitar just gets loose and falls off.

Epiphone Les Paul Special II - Customer Service disappointment

By Tim

from Riverside, CA

Received it with the toggle switch damaged. The guitar, itself, sound decent. They couldn't send me another one until they received the damaged one. I called them to see if they received it, which the agent told me they did. I asked if the could expedite the shipment and he said he would so it should arrive on Friday. I called back late that Friday, another agent said they never received the original damage. I got upset and he double checked and corrected himself. Then, however, he said it would not arrive until Monday (this was a big deal because originally I ordered it way early). Therefore, I cancelled. Bottomline, disappointed in the agents and timeliness of delivery and the fact that first one was damaged. May be better to avoid online purchase and go to the store, IMHO.

this is obviously an epiphone

By LESPAULULTRA

from Portland, OR

I own the one with the all-black finish. this is a cheap guitar and should only be for new guitarists... it's a pretty nice lookin' guitar, but the sound quality is horrible. When playing any chord, you can't tell what chord it is. i wouldn't recommend it for anything other than a starter guitar

Epiphone

By Tim

from Montrose, Michigan

This guitar is pretty nice for a beginner guitar.I bought it in December of 2007.When I first got it, I loved it. But after playing it for awhile, the chrome on the tailpiece started to bubble and peel. My bridge pickup started rusting, and it doesn't hold that great of tune. But the tone is pretty good, not so much with the 10 watt amp it comes with but with my Laney 60 watt amp it sounds pretty good. The cord it came with shorted out the first or second day I had it. So look into buying a cord when you buy the guitar. But other than these small and inexpensive flaws, the guitar is nice.
