Comments about Epiphone Les Paul Special II Electric Guitar:

Picking back up Jamming again and needed something to get back to playing guitar again with a great price and sound. Love the Wine color. Reminds me of my first guitar which was a 62 Melody Maker. I never should of sold it when I got Married.
Neck is wider than the Strat copy I was playing. My larger hands loves the wider neck and the string action was good. Sounds Great with Pedal effects too. Plays like my Gibson LP Std and weights less around your neck.

I am surprised at how beautiful this guitar looks and sounds. The D neck shape feels wider than I am used to; my left thumb gets sore and my fingers get lost looking for strings. I would recommend this to anyone who has big hands or isn't addicted to Stratocasters.

Comments about Epiphone Les Paul Special II Electric Guitar:

Great looking guitar! Wine red finish looks much better in person than in photos. I had to lower the action and make minor adjustments to the intonation. However, it only took a few turns with a small flat head screw driver. I also replaced the strings with some nickel wound Dunlops, as the original strings felt stiff. Once I made these minor adjustments it played great! It also sounds excellent! Perfect for hard rock & metal, but also good clean.

Comments about Epiphone Les Paul Special II Electric Guitar:

I got this guitar as my first guitar. I didn't want to be like others and buy a very expensive first guitar, only to never touch it again. But I've been playing this guitar every day now for over a year.

It is a cheap guitar, you get what you pay for. I ended up replacing the entire electronics in this guitar, including the pickups. Sounds much better now.

Plays great though. BUT.... the fret wires are beginning to wear out on mine. They need to be re-rounded (or whatever the terminology is).

                  Great guitar for the beginner.

Comments about Epiphone Les Paul Special II Electric Guitar:

This is a great looking, quality made instrument, slick as a mole in it's wine red jacket. I wanted to give it a 5 rating but could not justify it because of an error on the specs sheet. The specs show the hardware as Nickel, which is what I wanted, but on arrival, I found it was Chrome. I e-mailed Gibson who confirmed that chrome is correct and nickel was a typo which will be corrected. So if you, like I, would rather have nickel on the Epi LP Special ll, be prepared to swap out the chrome parts with nickel (if you can find them).

Comments about Epiphone Les Paul Special II Electric Guitar:

I bought this guitar after playing it for about 30 minutes at my local Guitar Center. I couldn't believe how good it sounded. I bought it as soon as I was done playing. I'm no beginner, nor am I an expert, but I play a lot and I have many other guitars. This one has now become my new go to for recording and playing live. The neck has amazing action. I can't tell any difference in playing from my strat to this, which is very nice. If anything, this plays smoother than my strat. If you are thinking about it, but still on the fence, just buy it, you won't regret it.

                  Great Guitar, Few Draw Backs

Comments about Epiphone Les Paul Special II Electric Guitar:

I would rate this guitar 5 stars, however there are only a few minor things that hold it back a little bit. The first is it's color and shape. It looks like and egg in my opinion. I bought a specific design because it does not look like the others but is. It isn't shown here and is hard to find on the internet. It has a deep blue edge (opposed to red as the most popular) with a lighter blue sunburst strip in the middle (instead of the yellow in the same design). If it weren't for this saving grace I'd rate it at 3 stars. The second is no pick guard. If it had one it would be improved greatly. But I understand why it doesn't because a pick guard would be more expensive and this is leaning to the beginner's side of the spectrum. Regardless, it would play the same with the pick guard. Third, and the biggest, is the amount of nobs and the lack of variety. There are only two nobs on the guitar: Volume and Tone. The Volume works perfectly. But contrary to other Les Pauls, there is only one Tone nob instead of four. It still works, I prefer to leave it at either 4 or 6, but there aren't as many options. This is where I find it hard whether to rate it 4 or 5 stars. It comes down to how advanced you are. I'm not a beginner, but I'm not an expert. My biggest flaw is I have very little knowledge of what the tone nobs actually do and I can't tell the difference. I like it because of the simplicity. Advanced players, in my own personal experience, can't play without the tone nobs being right. That paragraph was getting to long... For the third flaw, it depends. If you're advanced it is still an amazing guitar, it just lacks one thing. If you're starting out or are like me you'll be blown away by the quality of it. I'll end with a few things I liked very much about the guitar: The inlays are dots, the simplicity of the nobs, the ease of playing (and bending), clarity of Rhythm setting, volume nob, placement of Rhythm/Lead setting switch, pick ups aren't plated. Thanks for reading!
