I've had my Epiphone Les Paul Special II for about 8 weeks now, and man its nice. The pics don't even come close to show you nice this guitar is. I have the Heritage Cherry Sunburst, The pick ups are not all that, but i added some emg's and man the sound is great!! With a little work on the neck (The strings buzz sometimes) and pick ups( I use zakk wylde emg set, with an Marshall mg30dfx amp and MXR ZW-44 Wylde Overdrive Pedal). You can't find a better guitar for the money, this is by far the best starter out there in my book.

The Epiphone les paul special 2 is a average guitar for a low price there are some problems with it staying in tune and after the first couple of months you will see that the toggle switch will begin to stop working but there are some good things i have to say. First of all it looks simular to the gibson les paul and is only about 160$. If you are a experienced guitar player this is a decent back up and is also but a good starter guitar but i would recomend the epiphone les paul jr.

I must say, this Epiphone Les Paul is a great buy! I actually bought mine a few years back and when I first saw the price and played it, I was stunned. When I got mine though I did get my neck adjusted alittle bit, nothing to major but its great!!! My friends ask how much I payed for this and they are shocked! I would say this guitar is for anyone! Everything else is great, the sound, the feel, oh man! FANTASTIC GUITAR! I dont think anyone will be sorry after buying this guitar =)

Good Starter guitar

By catinthehat

from Clarkfield, MN

Comments about Epiphone Les Paul Special II Electric Guitar:

This guitar is geared more towards beginners but dont let that fool you it can kick out some great tones. It feels good in hand and provides a variety of sounds. I also like the option of the different colors to choose from. It features two humbuckers and it will stay in tune for weeks. I strongly recommend this guitar.

this Guitar is a steal

By Devin Hanson

from Columbus , Ohio

Comments about Epiphone Les Paul Special II Electric Guitar:

i just bought this guitar and it is absolutely under priced. The only downfall it has is staying in tune, so, i spent $35 for grover machine heads and it sounds as good as a gibson. i payed $185 dollars in all and it plays and sounds just as good as its bigger brothers. Its a great deal. I have been playing guitar for 15 years and have never found a guitar so good for such a great price.

Comments about Epiphone Les Paul Special II Electric Guitar:

I picked up mu LP II 2 weeks ago and have become a recluse. It's tone, it's sustain and overall quality is all and more than I hoped for. All the folks that I know who play are amazed at the looks and quality of sound this little monster has.

UNBELIEVABLE!

By Bryce

from Latah, Wa

Comments about Epiphone Les Paul Special II Electric Guitar:

This guitar is absolutely amazing! I've played Gibson Les Paul axes, Fender Telecasters, Gretch A42 guitars, just about everything. This is one of the best guitars I have played in a long time! Whether you're just starting out, or an experienced player, I recommend this guitar, with the utmost confidence!

Awesome Guitar

By utg

Comments about Epiphone Les Paul Special II Electric Guitar:

I bought this guitar about two months ago. It is nothing short of awesome. It plays great, feels great, and looks great for the price. Anyone can play it from beginners to experienced players. I've been playing for four years and am very happy with all it can do for what it costs. I'd recommend this guitar to anyone.

Next step up

By Bridge Hanson

from Durham, NC

Comments about Epiphone Les Paul Special II Electric Guitar:

My father got me this guitar two Christmas' ago as a step up from my beginner Squier Stratocaster. For the price of the guitar, I might consider it a good choice for a first guitar. Compared to the five setting switch on my old strat, and the single tone knob, this guitar is easier for me to adjust the sound without feeling overwhelmed. The rhythm setting with the tone turned off has a great hollow sound that I love to play around with, and setting it to the treble pick-up, tone full on with distortion sounds great when playing lead. The shape of the guitar sits comfortably for a smaller guy like me, and the neck makes bends easy to pull off, but not to wear you're bending unintentionally. After a couple years, I notice the pick-ups are a little loose, but it's nothing a screwdriver can't solve. Other than that, I've never noticed anything wrong with the guitar. Great sound, great price, great buy: I would recommend for either a beginner guitar (I believe they have a starter set with this guitar as well) or a step up after the starter set.

Great Value!

By Tim S.

from Williamsburg VA

Comments about Epiphone Les Paul Special II Electric Guitar:

This guitar is an incredible instrument for the price. Tones that are just like its Gibson cousin (with the exception of having a little more high end punch because of the bolt on neck). Having been a guitar player who had fallen on hard times and forced to sell my axes, I was looking for a good inexpensive guitar. I ordered this one. When I got it, I was amazed. I have been playing for 26 years. I have played and owned a lot of guitars. This one is a keeper. The wine red finish is beautiful. The tones are great. A GREAT INSTRUMENT AND A GREAT VALUE!

Great for the money

By Nilay Sharan

from San Ramon, CA

Comments about Epiphone Les Paul Special II Electric Guitar:

My situation was that I needed a new guitar to replace my broken Fender Strat. I was always a Gibson fan, but did not want to drain my money. So, I went for this guitar, a cheaper yet great version of the Les Paul. This guitar makes great music for a great price. For those who don't want to go all out moneywise, get this guitar. Good brand, good music, good look, and most importantly, good guitar.

Special is right.

By Kevin

from Richmond, Virginia

Comments about Epiphone Les Paul Special II Electric Guitar:

I have not played guitar in 35 years, decided to start playing again and my asked wife for a guitar for my birthday. After a trying a lot of guitars in this price range and higher, I decided on the Epiphone Les Paul Special II and made the right decision. The pictures don't do justice to the quality and feel of this instument. For this price, I didn't expect all of the quality that this guitar delivers - both in appearance and playability. This is a "Special" value overall. After 35 years of marriage my wife didn't need any "brownie points" but, won some serious ones with this gift. I will never be Eric Clapton but, this guitar makes me sound better than I thought possible after all this time and I would recommend it to any novice.

A STEAL

By Red Zeppelin

from warrenville, IL

Comments about Epiphone Les Paul Special II Electric Guitar:

I have had this guitar for at least a year now, and it's pretty decent. And for the price, no one can beat it, it's perfect for beginners to even advance guitar players. There is only one flaw, and that is that the les paul itself is quite heavy, but im built enough for it. BUY IT, IT'S A STEAL

good beginner to intermediate guitar

By matthew

from Powhatan,VA

Comments about Epiphone Les Paul Special II Electric Guitar:

I bought this guitar in the Value pack with an amp, accesories, etc.... I know an average amount about guitars, but from what i know its got a smooth action. The neck may need to be adjusted depending on the player. You do get little string buzz with the stock settings. But like i said just adjust it. Its got a nice tone and the humbuckers have decent mid range sound. I would get some new strings. Light gauges seem to have increased speed. This would be perfect for some just starting out or someone that needs a practice axe. Overall better than the Fender Squier Strat for sure. awesome for students and young ones.

Great Buy

By Anthony

Comments about Epiphone Les Paul Special II Electric Guitar:

I ordered this guitar in white with rosewood frets. It took 5 days to arrive. I stringed some ernie ball slinkys and installed a killswitch button on it too. The guitar has amazing tone and did not hurt me financially. I would recommend buying this guitar. Thank you Epiphone ;)

Great Sound, But. . .

By DimebagForever25

from Jackson MO.

Comments about Epiphone Les Paul Special II Electric Guitar:

I got this guitar about a year ago. It is a great axe once you first get it, but down the line there may be some problems. The 8th month I had this the input jack fell out and I had to fix it. Then, the tuning knobs kept falling off. (I still haven't fixed this problem even with replacement knobs). It has a great sound, and pinch harmonics, tapping, etc. are very easy on this guitar. The neck isn't too fat, and the frest are really fast. The bottom line is, the thing has a great sound, but it may need some repair here and there.

Not Quite a Gibson

By Alexanddurrr

from Los Angeles, CA

Comments about Epiphone Les Paul Special II Electric Guitar:

I've been playing electric guitar for 6 years now and this was my first guitar I ever purchased. My oldest brother had a Gibson Les Paul and I loved playing with it, but because I was a poor high school student, I went with the Epiphone Les Paul Special II Electric Guitar. Though the sound/feel is nothing near the Gibson, I say that this Epiphone is a great start for beginners. I only say that the overall rating is an average because I know how a good guitar sounds and feels. I would recommend this guitar to a beginner who is looking for something on the cheaper side, yet they would be playing a mediocre guitar with a classic look.

Awesome beginner guitar

By Andy Hill

from New Hampshire

Comments about Epiphone Les Paul Special II Electric Guitar:

This guitar turned out to be a really good investment for me. I've been wanting to learn how to play guitar for the longest time and this thing is PERFECT for beginners. It sounds and plays great and it doesn't go out of tune very easily which is a major plus. Another great thing is I put on .012 gauge strings onto this baby and it didn't need any adjustments on the neck and it didn't mess up its attack at all. I love this guitar and I recommend it to anyone who is looking to learn how to play guitar or for anyone who is looking for a solid guitar for a cheap price.

Terrible

By Jake

from Detroit, MI

Comments about Epiphone Les Paul Special II Electric Guitar:

Never played a worse guitar. Once you play above the fifth fret it buzzes, even with a setup. On the bridge pickup with the tone knob at 10 it sounds muddy. You can barely hear what your playing. Terrible

Amazing guitar for any player!

By Carl

from Michigan

Comments about Epiphone Les Paul Special II Electric Guitar:

What can I say? I'm a very experienced player (seven years of playing now). I'm used to playing Ibanez's and Gibson's mainly. I just needed a nice, inexpensive guitar to practice on at home. When I got the guitar in the mail, (after tuning it and replacing the pickups with Alnico's), I almost wanted to use this as my stage guitar! This guitar is pure awesomeness with a polyurethane finish! It isn't very heavy, the neck action is incredible, and even the stock pickups are pretty nice. The guitar hardly ever comes out of tune too. Overall, I had a load of fun playing with this little monster. What are you waiting for? Buy it. Now. Do it!
