I am a hobbyist/ collector and this is my first guitar with P90's. They are not intended to be used for Heavy Metal Rock and get a bit noisy if forced. But, if what you're after is a wide tone range of clean to moderately gritty tones you should love these. Also P90's don't have the sustain associated with humbuckers. Also in this price range you can't beat a solid mahogany body. I polished the body and added a Bigsby style vibrato to mine, and I am still waiting to receive a new pick guard.

I bought this guitar to try out P90 pickups. I use this guitar to practice and as a back up guitar. The guitar sounds great. The finish is good and the electronics are solid. The only issue I had was the fingerboard has a layer of wax on it, cause my fingers to stick. The frets were also rough. I solved this by cleaning up the fingerboard and polishing the frets and I've never that the problem again. This guitar cannot hold its tuning so I ended up changing the tuners and nut. Through this guitar I feel in love with the P90 tone and I will eventually guy a higher end guitar with P90s.

Comments about Epiphone Les Paul Special I P90 Electric Guitar:

I've played 3 of these, and I knew within 2 minutes that I was buying them. I can't BELIEVE how well they play and sound! Plus they're just plain FUN! The only things that I've changed are the tuners. I've been playing for over 40 yrs and have owned too many guitars to count. These stack up to almost all of them. Highly recommended!

Comments about Epiphone Les Paul Special I P90 Electric Guitar:

I got this to mess around with slide guitar. (TV Yellow) Bought it online so did not get to check it out before hand. Took it out of the box, plugged it in and bang it was ready to play. String heights fine, intonation fine. Fit and finish flawless. (Unlike my $1000 Gibson LP Tribute I just bought) I thought I'd change out the tuners but after a week of stretching the strings out it seems to hold tune fine. If not it takes five seconds to tune so no big deal. Some tuners will cost half as much as the guitar. It is kind of light weight but so what. The pickups won't set the world on fire. Is it worth putting upgrades in? I personally won't be doing anything to it other than strings at some time when these wear out. I took it to a jam and friend guitar players were stunned at the quality and cost. And there was nothing to be ashamed of with the sound. I paired it up with a little Blackstar Fly battery amp at a party of jammers (low volume stuff). Great comments all around. I like it so much I'm buying a gig bag for it.

Comments about Epiphone Les Paul Special I P90 Electric Guitar:

Our worship pastor asked me to put together some slide parts in an arrangement that he wanted to use. I first played them on my G&L where I liked the tone a lot, but I did not like the neck noise I was getting with 9s. I bought this for under $100 raised the strings a little and kept the 10s that came with it. I had to fiddle with intonation a little but this thing is a worker. You hear stories about the compromised copper in import pickups but these P90s are rich in tone and full of sass. My wife is happy because I didn't spend $900.00 on a guitar that I may only play 4 times a year. I'm happy because of tone and set up. Worship Pastor has his slide parts. All for under $100.00. I would take an emory board to fret ends (Needs just a tiny bit) and lower strings if not for slide use and still be a happy guy with a nice guitar for regular use.

Comments about Epiphone Les Paul Special I P90 Electric Guitar:

I own many guitars. Gretch, Hohner, Aria, Fender, Epiphone, OLP...THIS EPI WITH P90 is really -seriously- one of my favorites. Need a little setup and care , new strings of course (10-46 Ernie ball I suggest) , fretboard conditioner, lower bridge and quarter turn on truss rod. THIS IS A GEM. I truly love my P() Epi.. Simple guitar with fast neck great sounding pickups.

Comments about Epiphone Les Paul Special I P90 Electric Guitar:

This guitar has more than it's share of high points. I really love
the neck and the sound of the P90s. Everything else is perfectly
            serviceable if not inspired.

I highly recommend this for a beginner's guitar, it does not have
the issues that make playing many other more affordable guitars an
uphill battle. For me, it makes a great banging around instrument
that I do not have to worry about walking away or getting fallen on
            by a drunk.

Comments about Epiphone Les Paul Special I P90 Electric Guitar:

I wanted it because of the P90 pickups
Once I worked it over new strings and set neck, pickups, and action.
It is awesome for that fat rock vintage sound that mist humbuckers (have 6 others)
Can't produce. This is exactly like a Gibson melody maker.
And if you were to compare it's got the same playability as the Gibson 60s T LP.
Can't be the price don't be fooled its a great buy for my collection.

Comments about Epiphone Les Paul Special I P90 Electric Guitar:

After ping ponging between Fender single coil and Gibson Humbuckers and playing blues both in my band as well as solo on a back porch chair for audiences, I had never touched a P90 pickup guitar. I wanted to correct that error and when I sat down and played in the store I knew this was a sound I'd been looking for. Warning: normal rant -- I grew up knowing the real masters in simple, direct blues such as Lightning Hopkins, Robert Lockwood, etc, and much of the Mississippi HIll Country greats, known and unknown. (Find Rural Blues on YouTube) It's a situation of one person, one guitar in making blues. This model quickly became my favorite for any venues at any time, and I long ago brushed off the normal attitude of "the more money I spend on a guitar the better i'll sound." It's all personal taste, but don't miss out on hearing this instrument coming out of you!

Owning three Squire solid body electrics with single coils or humbuckers, I lacked a P-90 device. Lusting after the Epiphone Les Paul Special I for awhile and watching this baby's price inching up, I jumped at the penny under $100 sale. The build quality is above its price range. The tone is great, a growling single coil. Some hum, but tolerable and if turned up loud enough, who cares, eh?
