I just recieved this guitar yesterday. I have a whole multitude of guitars ranging from Fender strats, Gibson SG, Jackson DKMG Dinky and a few acoustics and I've gotta tell you I used this one once at rehearsal and couldnt put it down! Started playin it right out of the box. The userability of this guitar is great and unlike like a Gibson Les Paul this one is feather light. The speed on the neck the action the extreme punch from the EMG pickups and the eye catching finish on this guitar makes for an enjoyable product beginner or Veteran. I give two thumbs up!

I purchased this guitar in Oct 2010 and it came with a broken neck, after my return request being passed around and ignored I finally got an exchange authorized, the next guitar came with a loose truss rod, I exchanged it, the next guitar came with a loose truss rod and I had to fight for an exchange. They don't carry this model in stores so you have to trust the shipping dept. GC does not look over the products or have anything to do with quality control. Nobody cared that this is obviously a bad batch of guitars and I ended up sending it directly to Epiphone for an exchange and finally got a decent guitar. I do really like the guitar but since I had to return this guitar so many times and go over and beyond to get one that works properly (it took 4 months total!) I could not give a decent rating. A lot of people write 5 star reviews but I am curious to know how long they have actually been playing to be handing out this overly generous rating? Also if you have purchased this model recently and you notice a lot of fret buzz, check your truss rod and contact Epiphone!

You'd Think It's a Gibson

By John T

Comments about Epiphone Les Paul Prophecy Custom EX Electric Guitar:

First time I saw, I though "cheap Les Paul with EMG's stuck on there". I was dead wrong. The ebony fretboard plays better than any Les Paul I've had, the EMG's sound tighter than any P.A.F., and the finish looks sexy. If you're a beginner, an experienced player, an intermediate, this is your guitar, take it from a metalhead.

Comments about Epiphone Les Paul Prophecy Custom EX Electric Guitar:

I am pretty happy with this guitar. However, I did not like the feel of the neck, which is a low polish plastic feel. Everything else i can name about this guitar is fantastic. Great heavy as well as clean tones

Would rather die than go without

By Mike Nelson

Comments about Epiphone Les Paul Prophecy Custom EX Electric Guitar:

Absolutely hands down the best deal on the market today. If this guitar had a Gibson logo on the headstock it would also come with a price tag thousands of $$ higher. As with any new guitar, I had it setup by a professional luthier to my specs, but straight outta the box it played very well. I play in a 3 piece metal band so my guitar sound & reliability are of the utmost importance. If something happened with my guitar, the show would end until fixed. I have played show after show with this guitar without a backup and have not had even a hint of any problem...not 1 broken string, not one loose jack, not any gnarly ground hum, nothing. Ever. Very smooth playing neck, which is slightly more narrow @ the nut. The EMG 81/85 pickups are without a doubt the most versatile set I know of. Over the top gain that is still very controllable and never have I had this setup feedback because of too high of gain. I recently had an extra 9 volt battery placed in series to increase the voltage to 18 volts which did not increase overall output but did increase sonic headroom. Much more usable tone either clean or dirty. The only drawback with this particular guitar is it is very sensitive to temperature, as most guitars are. I have played inside and outside, cold and hot, and as long as I pull it out of the case to acclimate it to the ambient temp of each particular venue, it stays in tune wonderfully. I could not find a hardshell case made by Epiphone that was long enough so I went with an off brand. I believe there is one made specifically for this guitar now. This guitar is my main instrument because of the way it feels, the way I feel when playing it, the way it looks, the way I look while playing it, and above all because it is much more than just a piece of wood with some metal stuff on it between my brain, fingers and my Mesa...it has become an integral part of how I express what is inside. My recommendation is to play this guitar for a while. Compare it's feel and sound to one of the $3500 Gibson customs off the wall behind the counter...you know...the ones most people only gawk at. That's what I did and bought the Prophecy with a smile.

Love this axe! She's a shredder's dream.

By Jack Duncan

Comments about Epiphone Les Paul Prophecy Custom EX Electric Guitar:

I am totally wowed by this guitar. I bought it because it has everything I was looking for in a Les Paul - an ebony fingerboard with body, neck and head bindings, active pickups and beautiful finish. I love it because of the way it plays, smooth as velvet with a real kick. The fit and finish are top-quality and the tone is awesome. Clean tones are nice, but she really growls when pushed. I bought it to play more metal-type tunes and she delivers everything I want for that. More though, I really like the feel of this guitar. From the moment I picked her up, the affair was on! She has that LP weight with a neck that is silky and fits my hand just right. So far, the easiest playing instrument I own. I am used to my Strat, but I just found that this is a whole new world of shredding come alive. I had her setup at GC with a set of Slinky 10s, kinda medium-low for a combination of intonation and playability. The look is awesome. Pictures don't do this finish justice. You have to see it in person to appreciate how nice she looks, from the inlays to the pattern of the top. And the bindings really give it a classy look. The all black hardware and black strap-locks are another nice touch. The Prophesy is really much more than I expected. It's a beauty that plays easily and give great tones. The sustain is amazing after playing a Strat. Can't be beat for hard rock, metal and the shredder in me. I just feel cool holding this thing and my friends were suitably impressed by my new dark axe.

Great Guitar!

By Ryan

Comments about Epiphone Les Paul Prophecy Custom EX Electric Guitar:

There aren't enough words to describe this guitar. It is amazing... chords last for days, the ebony finger board is nice and smooth, the pickups are SOOO sensitive and the tuning last a good while. The neck has a texture to it... different feel but i think it adds a nice touch. 24 frets make it different then any Les Paul. Changing the battery seems quite hard though. The little connector doesn't really move much. Also, it only fits in an Epiphone case. I bought a RoadRunner with it and had to bring it back. Other than that it is a great guitar and i would recommend it for beginning to experienced player.

worth every penny!!!

By jeff

Comments about Epiphone Les Paul Prophecy Custom EX Electric Guitar:

this guitar is the best thing ever. i've had it since may of 2009 and i have NO complaints. the neck is great for shredding and sweeping is achievable at any level of experience. the inlays are just amazing. and the head stock design was nice as well. the EMG's 81's and 85's were so great. never have i found a guitar so amazingly pure and smooth sounding! the grover tunings are great too. i use 0.13 gauge. mainly to play some really heavy metal. but i can tune this beast to a BASS TUNING and it stays in tune! the only problem with it is active pickups. but they're so worth it. the only other things that happened that i didnt like was i accidentally hit the body on my bed when playin and it left a mark on its perfect finish. other tan that i would recomend this to ANYONE!

Killer guitar

By jmexia

from NRH Texas

Comments about Epiphone Les Paul Prophecy Custom EX Electric Guitar:

This is an awesome guitar what more can I say. I was at GC with a friend(I wasn't even looking for a guitar) I picked up thhis Epi and was blown away. I had to have it. The neck has a satin finnish and feels so fast, there is no drag on your hand from the finnish. the finnish and binding are top notch. The Grover tuners hold tune very well and the locking bridge is a nice plus. There are lots of little "upgrades" on this that make it worth every penny. The kicker is the EMG pickups. Man they scream. I have never owned a set and now I see what I have been missing. This guitar is set to play metal, there is no doubt about that, but I have dialed in some very nice clean tones with my line6 that I wasnt expecting. My only complaint ,and its very very minor, is that there is only one volume knob and one tone knob. Other than that this is a super awesome guitar. I have owned it for 2 weeks and havent put it down.

My new girlfriend!

By Mike Nelson

Comments about Epiphone Les Paul Prophecy Custom EX Electric Guitar:

What more could a player want? Active EMG 81/85, graphite nut, ebony fretboard, carved maple top, 24 jumbo frets. Absolutely amazing guitar in it's playability and it's beauty. I tune down a whole step & use larger gauge strings so I had to adjust the intonation slightly & just a tad of nut filing to accomodate the bigger strings, but everything else was perfect right off the rack. This guitar is slightly neck heavy, as most les pauls are, along with being slightly longer in overall length so finding a hardshell case is the million dollar question now. I have zero regret after picking this guitar up, & this is the 1st time ever. Most guitars have at least 1 thing inferior...not this one. Rock on my friends! Mike LYCKWYD
