Overview

The king of solid body guitars, the Les Paul Custom made its debut in 1954 after the initial success of the Les Paul Goldtop. Les Paul himself suggested black as a great color for a new Les Paul because it looked "classy" and went well with a tuxedo on stage. Now with its ebony or antique white finish, the Les Paul Custom has often been referred to as the "tuxedo" Les Paul.

And with its gold appointments, fully bound body, neck and headstock and mother-of-pearl inlays, we think you'll agree that the Epiphone Les Paul Custom is "dressed to kill". Now featuring ProBucker 2 and ProBucker 3 humbucking pickups, gold hardware, multi-binding on body (top and back), neck and headstock as well as split-diamond pearloid headstock and fretboard inlays, it's as gorgeous as it is deadly. Case sold separately.

First Impressions:
The guitar in Alpine White is absolutely stunning! Every aspect from craftsmanship to the weight is perfect.

Meat & Potatoes:
This guitar represents what Gibson and Epiphone are all about! Aside from making my own nut and trust-rod minor adjustments, the guitar is great! I was a little skeptical about the ProBuckers and the split coils, but these things will play anything. The out-of-phase switch really makes a unique tone. The 500Ohm pods are very sensitive and a little adjustment goes a long way. There is simply no limitations of sound that this guitar can't handle. I play mainly digital equipment and I couldn't find one amp or music genre that I couldn't play this guitar on. A lot of people want to change these pickups out and they are CRAZY!
The only thing I noticed that caught my fingers was the frets. They seemed to be coated with a protectant. After changing the strings and rubbing down the fretboard with a neck conditioner it was gone. The body weights and feels amazing. Some people have shipping issues with minor things such as broken toggle switches, but I found mine in perfect condition. In fact, the guitar was packaged and shipped with great care to ensure the guitar arrived in mint condition.

Bottom Line:
This guitar simply cannot be over looked because it doesn't have a name your looking for!! Gibson's and Epiphone's quality really shines through on this guitar. It feels great, plays great, and is in a very respectable price range. I usually change out a few items on my guitars, but I can't see anything that needs replacing. Buy it-you won't regret it! I would take this guitar to any show without a backup hands down.

Recv first " second" restock,to save a little dough. Was a great option in the past , but this one? Was not very playable, set up was poor. tried to set up, but it was still poor. no ring, no sustain, dead fret near nut....huh? It's a Les Paul? Well sent it back , next one better. still a bit of neck backbow...maybe from poor storage, long shipping, etc. , unsure why. Corrected that slight issue, then new strings and setup. I like really low action, this one is close, but can't achieve the same action as my gibs'. Neck feels fatter,rounder...and seems narrow at the nut...did not measure, going on feel. Plays ok, little buzz, no dead frets, but even the upgraded p/u's sounded a little thin and brittle. Binding on rear of lower horn pretty iffy, but not usually seen. There may be better options in the price range, too bad-always wanted a L/P custom...Stared saving again. I will keep to use as backup or for outdoor functions. let my studio or std. do the real work...too bad. Picked up my studio right after playing, difference in playability and tone are light years apart. Spent the same dough on a Str@t mex and it looks and plays as it should, great. maybe look at some others, unless you too, really wanted a custom.

The Custom PRO is an Awesome Guitar.

Comments about Epiphone Les Paul Custom PRO Electric Guitar:

The Les Paul Custom PRO Electric Guitar feels good in my hands, the fretboard is smooth, and I noticed how easy it was to play. The PRO capabilities (where there is single coil action) is very good, but frankly I enjoyed the full-bodied sound through both humbucker pickups. It is certainly an instrument that I have been enjoying a lot of lately, and certainly it's worth the investment. A friend of mine had a Les Paul Custom many years ago and I remembered how it felt then and it feels just as good now with my new instrument. Certainly worthwhile having and I endorse its purchase :)

Comments about Epiphone Les Paul Custom PRO Electric Guitar:

I must say that the Les Paul Custom by Epiphone is one of the finest feeling guitars I have ever had, but that is not all. I was trying out the volume and tone controls, and played the guitar in single coil mode and with phase on and the Custom is excellent. It has a fine finish, looks good, and really, to my delight, feels good in my hands. The fingerboard and frets are so smooth, they allow my fingers to glide from point to point, and I really enjoy the fact that it seems to fit my hands when I lay down chords also. I can just imagine the joy I'll experience as I continue to break in this new, finely crafted instrument. Even without special effects, The Custom has ringing tones and beautiful harmonics. Can only imagine how great it would be to go giguing with it. An excellent investment at an awesome price.

    FOUR THUMBS UP!

Comments about Epiphone Les Paul Custom PRO Electric Guitar:

I could not decide between black or white, So my son and I now have a pair of these beauties. They shipped them separate and we didn't get them both the same day. That's been the only disappointment. Both the black one and the white one came in perfect shape. After letting them sit and warm up to room temp we tuned up and tried them out. We love them both, they play great! The strings are thinner than what we play with but these don't need anything else. Two thumbs up from both of us! Thanks! Pat and Matthew

Comments about Epiphone Les Paul Custom PRO Electric Guitar:

Guitar needed some minor setup...bridge a bit to high, PUs not at factory spec height, which is very important for these PUs in terms of tone. But it is very well constructed, sounds and plays like a classic LP.

First off, this is my 2nd epiphone lp custom with the new probuckers. I think for the price it is a solid setup and sounds good.. but i had plans for the alpine white from the start. I pulled all of the electronics, and installed emg 81/85 and replaced all of the gold hardware with black, even the screws. Its a metal machine!

Comments about Epiphone Les Paul Custom PRO Electric Guitar:

I am an intermediate level player and have owned Gibson's in the past, which are great guitars, but the price tag is a bit out of my range. This guitar feels and plays and sounds as close to a Gibson as any can. The guitar is a beauty to look at and play and it came in perfect condition, not a mark on it and it was playable right out of the box without a set up, although i will have it set up anyway as I only just got it. The only thing I didn't like was the strings because I am used to a lighter gauge string, but that is nothing to complain about. It came regular shipping, and because of the 4th of July holiday it took 5 days when it normally would have taken 2. I just have to say that I love this instrument and expect it to be with me for a long time.

Comments about Epiphone Les Paul Custom PRO Electric Guitar:

Great guitar. It's beautiful and has a lot of nice features and I can tell it's got a great sound, esp with the quality pickups and option of coil splitting. I would give it 5 stars based on the quality of manufacture and the value for the money.

I am knocking off a star because I picked mine up in store and was surprised that they don't do any setup at all. My guitar came in clearly needing it as there is significant fret buzz on the three thicker strings. I asked and they said nope, they don't do that. For the money I spent, I am disappointed that guitar center doesn't think a proper set up should be included.
