This is an amazing guitar. Very well built, very nice detailing on the headstock and body of the guitar. This thing is solid as a rock, and unfortunately just as heavy. That is my only complaint: This thing is heavy, so heavy in fact that I actually broke a set of strap-locks a few months ago. When I first picked it up in the store I thought for sure this thing must've been tied down or something. Anyway, this guitar is great for jazz playing, rock, grunge, metal, blues....anything. The third/middle pickup makes it much more versitile than your average Les Paul, and it sounds very much like a strat. I can literally play anything with this guitar, Hendrix to Clapton to SRV, to Nirvana, Soundgarden, and Pearl Jam - and everything in between. Out of all my guitars, this gets played the most - by far! Sounds great through Fenders or Marshalls, etc., whichever you prefer. Great for gigging, but not recommended unless you happen to have a VERY comfortable strap (once again, just because of the weight). This guitar is well worth the money. A few weeks ago I go wandering into the local guitar shop, and I see the Epiphone Zakk Wylde Bullseye Les Paul model, so I figure I'd try it out. Now get this, the Zakk Wylde model is $100 more than the Black Beauty, and the Black Beauty blows it out of the water. Black Beauty has a much warmer tone and it actually feels like a guitar in your hands. Save yourself $100 and get this, you will NOT regret it. This is, in my opinion, the best Epiphone you can get that's under $1000. GET IT!

I owned this guitar less time than any other. When it arrived, I was excited. It was beautiful, to look at. Plugged it in, played a little, wow... this sounds great. End of positive comments. The third, or middle pickup in my opinion is this guitar's weak spot. It is in the way. No matter how long I played it, or in any comfortable "picking hand" position, it felt like trying to put the left shoe on the right foot...very awkward. Also, even after taking it to two well respected luthiers, I could not get the strings close enough to the fingerboard - so much so that playing anything in the middle of the neck made it go sharp. The glossy finish on the back of the neck , while nice to look at was kind of tacky, or sticky. Also- it weighs a TON. I really wanted to like this guitar, as it was beautiful. I guess if I just wanted something pretty to hang on the wall, this would be it, but it played like a toy

Amazing Guitar!

By Elliott Mazur

This is a great guitar. I've had it for about a year now and it still sounds brand new. It has a nice dark sound that is great for Blues and Classic Rock. If your looking for a guitar, I highly recommend this guitar.

Top of the Line.

By Stephen

from westernsprings

This guitar is worth the money. Everything is great except that even though the third pick up looks really cool you have to get used to picking in certain areas so you don't hit the pick ups. You should also get new strings, the one's thatr come with it wear out very quickly.

Best Guitar EVER!!!

By Cory Dodd

from Mt. Airy GA

I got this thing in the mail about 3 weeks ago. I was worried about the rigours of mail transport, but the guitar was totally undamaged. This is the best guitar ever! Perfect for that old school rock n' roll like Guns N' Roses, ACDC, ect. I don't do a lot of country, but the little that I do play, this guitar has the perfect tone. I have played Gibsons that were not even close to this guitar. The price is insane, but the sound is amazing. Not reccomended for beginners, just proffesionals. Many people say the middle pickup gets in the way, but I have never had this problem. I have always wanted this guitar, and now I do and danm does it make me happy!!!

5 Star Guitar

By Sean

from New Orleans, L.A.

this guitar came in to my guitar center one day and i just had to have it, it was a bargin at 450 because it was used, but it did need some TLC. I absolutely love this guitar, its been my go-to guitar since the day i got it. i own a strat and two other les pauls (standard and a custom with p-90's) and this guitar outshines them all! the tone is increadble, i can get everything from George Gershwin to Dethklok to Led Zeppelin. the guitar is visually stunning... my only problm was that it did not come with the Gold Modern machine heads as pictured, i thought they added a nice 1950's vintage look to the guitar. i would reccomend this guitar to anyone who is looking to upgrade to a high-end, reasonibly priced guitar.

Great, real Les Paul

By John

from Europe

I bought it 9 months ago. I had to adjust the neck throught the truss rod and additionally I got a really great action, so I didn't have to touch the bridge at all. Frets were great, no problem. This axe has a solid not weight relieved, or chambered mahogany body and I must say, this beast can roar and growl with endless sustain. The pickups have quite high output, I think higher than PAFs, or other vintage Gibson product and can get into insane ovcerdrive with certain amp settings but can be handled, easily. Pots are not CTS, but work OK. The toggle switch can give trouble, and better be ready, probably you have to change it quite soon! After there is no problem with it. Cosmetically, the guitar is great. I could find only some quality issues on the binding (it was not even at two places). Excellent finish, beautiful and shinning everywhere. The gold color starts showing "road worn" signs very soon (on metal hardware) but it is nothing new with Gibson products - I mean, totally normal. Do not forget - it is NOT a Gibson! It does not sound like a Gibson! Gibson guitars have higher quality electronics and hardware and it makes difference. But it is still an awsome guitar with beautiful and versatile sound. On the other hand ... if you go after the real Les Paul sound, than buy this axe, change the hardware and the electronics and you will have a real, full solid mahogany body Les Paul put out by Gibson and sounds like the big guys. The equivalent Gibson products starts at 3.5K and up as for the price, and only can be found among custom made guitars, VOSs, reissues and things like this. They are not in normal production anymore. So, if you are up for a great Les Paul carries the name of Les Paul by right with nice quiality and great tone with excellent playability on a very good price - go ahead and buy it. It is a no brainer!

Best guitar in its class

By Donovan Bader

from Buffalo, N.Y.

First I want to say that this guitar is AWESOME! I have had it for about year and a half and it continues to amaze me with its range of tones and clear sounding distortion. My grandmother got it for me a month before Christmas last year, and since then the only problem I've had is that the knob that the strap atatches to fell off, fortunatley it was easy to fix. I have only two complaints; It gets smudged easily and it feels extremeley heavy, until you get used to it . Now although it is heavy, all the weight is on the body so if you just let the guitar hang on you it will stay in place very well. one minor cosmetic problem is that the gold paint on the pickups comes off easily. If your worried about that then you might just have to repaint them once in a while, I personally didn't really care.
