Overview

The Epiphone Les Paul Acoustic-Electric Concert Ukulele Outfit includes a beautiful Les Paul shaped ukulele and a sturdy Epiphone gig bag. This is a great package for someone who wants to add to their setup a ukulele with some classic rock attitude.

The Les Paul ukulele is made of mahogany with a flame maple veneer top. It has a concert-size body that's slightly larger and louder (with deeper tone) than a soprano ukulele. It accepts standard G, C, E, A tuning. The neck is also mahogany with a rosewood fretboard and a D-profile for smooth fingering.

The rosewood bridge houses an Epiphone passive piezo pickup, which is wired to a standard ¼" output jack for easy connection to an amp or mixer for live performance or recording.

I have been playing this uke for about 2 years now and have it used in a various settings: live, studio, practice, etc. Over the course of this time I have become quite familiar with it and feel comfortable discussing various qualities/pitfalls with this model. This is my first uke and I was able to get it used at a good price and so I figured why not. As another reviewer noted it is beautiful and the pictures on this site are not very good at all. When plugged in you can control a lot of the tone through pedals and mixing. In addition, I put this through a BOSS ME-80 and its distortion rivals my Gibson!
The biggest drawback is that when it is not plugged in the sound is not very rich due to its thin body. That is a small drawback though given it is designed to be plugged in.
To see it in action look up Summer Jam - W.S. Walcott Medicine Show by Theatres in the Round on YouTube.

I definitely rate this Uke a 9, particularly with the price considered. I was really kind of expecting the finish to look Cheesy, but for the price, I wasn't gonna complain. Well the pics don't do it justice, it's really well executed. One "sticking point" might be that they call it an acoustic/electric, and if you are looking for an accoustic uke that ya can plug in too . . .it may disappoint. It's simply too quiet without being connected to an amp for even living room play for friends. This is GREAT for me personally though, because I can really play it after my girlfriend goes to bed, instead of trying to play quietly on my Oscar Schmidt Accoustic. which will wake her up if I forget and try to work out the strings heavily. This one won't do that, so it works well for me. The sound is actually excellent in "acoustic mode", just very quiet. The uke did come with a small low end (but adequate) amp cable.

I also bought a Raven RG20 Amp, and once I plugged it in, well DANG! This little Uke can flat-out rock. Even with the limitations of the basic, low-frills amp, you can get a lot of different sounds out of this uke, and do it with ease. I can't wait to get an effects pedal in the middle!

Even with just the basic amp, it was easy to get nice clean sound for songs like "The Boxer" by Simon and Garfunkle, or enough distortion and such fro some Pink Floyd, or even a somewhat "grunge rock" type sound. It's just a really easy uke to play, simple as that.

To be honest, I can't imagine getting a nicer electric uke for less money. I'd have been satisfied if I'd paid 250 bucks for it, quite honestly. For those wondering what amp to get for a uke like this, I just took a guess, but the RG20 is working well for me on the uke and with the way/what I play. and seems like it would even suffice for playing in a small neighborhood pub or whatever. Kudos to Epiphone on this ukulele . . .and dang, how else can ya get a brand new Les Paul for this price?
I'm satisfied with this ukulele immensely. I don't care for the pick guard, but hey, it is made to mimic a Les Paul guitar. And some folks will surely use a pick, so I'm being overly critical on that point. The Uke did come with a amp cable, I was glad since I forgot to order one along with the Uke And Amp I ordered. A low end, but adequate cable.

The passive pickup works MUCH better than I expected it to. I may add a preamp later, but for now, I'm perfectly happy with the passive setup . . .and I didn't expect to be.
I can't imagine anyone rating this Ukuleles quality less than a 10, particularly with the price being considered. It looks MUCH better than even the advertising pictures show, which surprised me. The finish was perfect. I talk about that the overall review. I expected the sunburst pattern to look kinda "stenciled" like it does in the advertizing pictures . . . which it didn't. I'd have been happy with the quality at twice the price. The neck was perfect, frets set well and level, nothing even threatening to buzz, everything was ready to go after a quick tune.
Again, what can I say . . . . A Les Paul ukulele . . . . for about the price of a toaster oven.

Comments about Epiphone Les Paul Acoustic-Electric Concert Ukulele Outfit:

I play mine almost everyday and I absolutely love it. Its small, sounds great, has a good shape, and is easy to play. My only complaint is that the strings it came with sounded tinny, but once I changed them it sounded fantastic. I now use it for performances and just to play in general.

Comments about Epiphone Les Paul Acoustic-Electric Concert Ukulele Outfit:

The Epiphone Les Paul style acoustic/electric ukulele is very nicely made and beautiful to look at. It's bolted on neck adds to the "electric" look. It plays well but would benefit from better strings. I was disappointed that it was advertised as having a radiused fret board (with a 16 inch radius), but actually, the nut, saddle, and fret board are totally flat. The Epiphone logo is protected by a thick clear finish and looks wonderful.

Comments about Epiphone Les Paul Acoustic-Electric Concert Ukulele Outfit:

This is a well made little instrument. I have been playing a six string for many years, and also play around with the bass, but have never really messed with one of these. I bought a uke for my daughter a while back, and she doesn't pick it up much. She said it was because she doesn't know any songs. I bought this one so I could learn, and then teach her. Its very well made, but compared to a good acoustic uke, acoustically it doesn't sound that great. Its like playing a hallow body electric guitar acoustically...its ok but....you know. Regardless, this this is made to look cool and plug in. I dig it! Well worth the money!

Bought this because I needed an electric ukulele and this was the cheapest one by far. I don't regret the purchase at all. Unless your going to drop big money on a uke, this one is the best bang for your buck.

Comments about Epiphone Les Paul Acoustic-Electric Concert Ukulele Outfit:

This uke looks so cool and sounds great! I love that it has the little tabs on the side to easily attach a guitar strap. It sounds great even when it is not plugged into an amp. My only complaint is that there is no volume control on the actual uke, so when I put a patch cord from the uke into my amp, the uke wasn't really loud even with the volume all the way up. I then plugged it into a pre-amp and then from the pre-amp to the amp and it cranked!
