The epiphone 100 is a great guitar overall. The guitar could have some better upgrades on it but for the price you can't beat what you get. The bolt on neck plays well and the action is good. The pickups could leave something to be desired but once again for the money they are good. upgrading can be hard as the pickups are not the same size as the gibson brand of les pauls. The tone and sound quality is good enough to jam on its own though. This guitar is good enough to jam and perhaps with some new pickups could be the only guitar that you need.

i bought this guitar a year or so ago and i still love it. i was weary about buying this guitar but i did anyway. the paint job is awesome and its the lightweight super slim version. (if you have ever played a Gibson you will understand how great the weight of this one is.) it plays ok from the manufacturer. The stock pick-ups suck. i recommend changing them out with Seymour Duncans. Pearly gates in the bridge position. i have yet to decide what to put in the neck position. i also recommend changing the nut and the tuners. it does not hold the tune very well either, buy grovers. after some parts upgrades and a pro set-up your good to go for any genre. I play in a country band and i prefer this guitar over my American made fenders.

Lefties Rejoice!

By Dennis Spina

from NYNY

I dropped in to GC a few weeks ago to pick up something for my nephew. I just happened to walk past the Lefty Wall and there was this guitar. I picked it up and started to play. I wasn't even thinking about buying a guitar when I walked into the store, but I knew I wouldn't be leaving without it. It plays beautifully, has a very comfortable neck, and is a real bargain. If you are a lefty who is tired of never finding a great guitar right off the shelf, your prayers have been answered. I really love the light weight body. Standard Les Pauls are a bit too heavy for me but this one is a joy to hold and play. There are no downsides. This is a great guitar!

Great value

By Robert BOWEN

from Durand mi

I purchased the guitar about 5 months ago because I had an extended wait to get a left handed ovation. While my primary vehicle is acustic, I enjoy getting this little gem out occasionally. I give it a 5, not because it is the best out there, but, because for the money, it is a serious slab. I especially like the fact that it is fairly light while still cranking out decent tones. Some of the other reviews mentioned needing a "good" amp for it... I find that to be true no matter what you plug in. It does well with my micro cube, but of course, it sounds much better thru my Marshall...go figure. It's a great way for south paw's to aquire a usable slab without mortgaging the farm.

Amazing first Les Paul!!

By Cristian Laskoski

from Williamstown N.J.

I got this les paul on christmas of 2009. I really wanted a les paul, especially since that was the year he pasted. Ever since then its been my favorite guitar. I even did a bunch of gigs with it. It still looks and sounds awsomee. The humbuckers are very thick and full of tone. I think thats pretty good for stock pups especially when this les paul is so cheap. Even the tuners are great! It stays in tune perfectly. And Ive never had any problem with high frets or anything like that. If your on a major budget and want a les paul get this one. It looks, feels, and most importantly sounds legit. And trust me it looks way better in person than picture on here!

Over a decade of service

By Matt

from St Paul, MN

I bought this model in 1998, mine is Korean made. It is a great guitar for the price. The open coil pickups are hotter than my friends' closed humbuckers and they rock hard. The bridge pickup is mean and the neck pickup is fat. If you're not getting sounds you like out of this guitar then the problem is with your fingers. I played in a pretty heavy rock band with punk, blues, and metal influences and this guitar took a real beating on stage for several years. I'm never getting rid of it.

WOW

By epiphone player

from Ohio

When I first bought this guitar i thought to myself well this guitar isnt that great but just to learn how to play and move on. When i pluged this guitar in WOW nothing like i thought it would sound like. I felt like i was playing a 500 dollar guitar. I would recommend this to any lefty beginning to play guitar.

Great Guitar for Alternative music

By Josh

from Northfield, New Jersey

I bought this guitar about 4 months ago and I love this guitar. My other guitars were horrible compared to this one. The only thing that could be improved is its pickups. But for the price who can really argue?

Great guitar if you're getting started

By Alex

from Buffalo, NY

This was my first guitar, and I have to say it has one of the nicest tones I've heard from a guitar in this price range. The only thing I don't like about this guitar is the tuners, which I will probably be replacing soon. The pickups are very nice (surprisingly) and overall this is a great guitar I will keep around for a very long time.

Great For Beginners

By Sawyer Sexx

from Madison WI

Ive had this guitar for a year now and personally it was a great guitar for starting out. Its not super pricey and it still has good sound. The clean channel is not AMAZING but still is good. I love the way this guitar sounds in drop D but not so much in drop C. One downside is there is no spot for a whammy bar but that can always be solved with pedals, anyway if your looking for a good guitar for a beginner that isnt super pricey this is it. Just make sure to get a good amp.
