Overview

This model shares all of the same features and specs as the standard Hummingbird PRO except for its distinctive black finish.

The Epiphone Hummingbird PRO Acoustic-Electric guitar brings the legendary country/rock "Hummingbird" into the 21st century with the new Shadow ePerformer preamp and Shadow NanoFlex pickup system.

First introduced in 1960, the square shouldered Hummingbird quickly became a classic thanks to Keith Richards of The Rolling Stones, who used a Hummingbird for rhythm on early Stones hits like "Satisfaction," "Play With Fire," and "Under My Thumb." There are also many classic photographs of Keith using a Hummingbird on sessions for Exile on Main Street, Goat's Head Soup, and Sticky Fingers. Today, the Hummingbird is still a go-to acoustic for rockers like Noel Gallagher, Sheryl Crow, and Kid Rock when they need a rhythm guitar with smooth action and superb "woody" tone that's full of character.

On its own, the Hummingbird PRO Acoustic/Electric can drive an all-acoustic band or be front and center at a picking party with its sweet, balanced tone. Now with the Shadow ePerformer preamp and Shadow NanoFlex pickup system, The Hummingbird PRO can plug-in and hold its own on any size stage.

Solid Spruce Tonewood
The Hummingbird PRO Acoustic/Electric features a solid spruce top. Spruce is a rich and complex tonewood that begins to breathe and improve with age. The more you play, the better it sounds! The body and neck are made from select mahogany. The Hummingbird PRO neck has a classic SlimTaper D profile and features a 24.75" scale and is attached to the body with a glued-in dovetail joint. The rosewood fingerboard has pearloid parallelogram inlays, 20 medium frets, a 12" radius, and a 1.68" nut. There is single ply white binding on the fingerboard and 5-ply white & black binding on the body top while the back of the body has single ply white binding. The Hummingbird PRO has the classic sloped dovewing headstock has the "Epiphone" logo in white.

The Hummingbird PRO Acoustic/Electric's reverse belly rosewood bridge has a compensated saddle for smooth action and intonation. The Shadow NanoFlex pickup system is under the saddle and the classic Hummingbird/flower tortoise shell style pickguard is easy to spot on stage or across a room.

Shadow Pickup System
Epiphone and Shadow Germany have worked together for over a decade at perfecting ways to amplify an acoustic guitar on stage. The Hummingbird PRO is just one of many Epiphone guitars that feature a cutting edge pickup system that can handle any size gig and still produce an "acoustic" sound. The Hummingbird PRO's controls for the Shadow ePerformer Preamp are on the upper bout and include controls for Master Volume, Treble and Bass EQ, Mute, and a Dynamics control adjusted via a frequency curve. There is also a low batter indicator. The preamp is powered by two 2032 batteries. The output jack and strap locks are nickel and the Hummingbird PRO Acoustic/Electric is strung at the Epiphone factory with time-tested D'Addario Phosphor (12-53) strings.

Comments about Epiphone Hummingbird PRO Acoustic-Electric Guitar:

Have owned this guitar for over a year and am still awed by it . Buy it and you'll NEVER regret it ! Have been looking for another, for a friend, but they seem to sell out FAST ! Change the strings and have it intonated before taking home . This is a keeper !

Comments about Epiphone Hummingbird PRO Acoustic-Electric Guitar:

I would not recommend this guitar for a soley acoustic experience. It has a thin - quiet acoustic voice that honestly does not sound as if it will open up that much, although I hope I'm wrong.
I happen to like it alot because if satisfies two of my "wants". 1.) a good looking black stage guitar 2.) a good sounding acoustic/electric for stage or studio use.
I got this on sale so I wouldn't return it. I'm satisfied for what I paid. This will not work for a campfire situation acoustically. Better get a yamaha or a seagull for that. This guitar sounds beautiful though my fishman loudbox mini acoustic amp.

Comments about Epiphone Hummingbird PRO Acoustic-Electric Guitar:

This is my newest addition to my Epiphone Hummingbird/Dove collection. I can certainly tell that the manufacturer has made improvements over the years by comparing with my older models. Love the Ebony ! The set up from the factory was well done and compares to professional setups that have been done to my other Hummingbirds & Doves. Great tone and playability right out of the box ! The electronics are a plus as well as the tuners......get as loud as you want and stays in tune :)
