Overview

The Epiphone Hummingbird PRO Acoustic/Electric guitar brings the legendary country/rock "Hummingbird" into the 21st century with the new Shadow ePerformer preamp and Shadow NanoFlex pickup system.

First introduced in 1960, the square shouldered Hummingbird quickly became a classic thanks to Keith Richards of The Rolling Stones, who used a Hummingbird for rhythm on early Stones hits like "Satisfaction," "Play With Fire," and "Under My Thumb." There are also many classic photographs of Keith using a Hummingbird on sessions for Exile on Main Street, Goat's Head Soup, and Sticky Fingers. Today, the Hummingbird is still a go-to acoustic for rockers like Noel Gallagher, Sheryl Crow, and Kid Rock when they need a rhythm guitar with smooth action and superb "woody" tone that's full of character.

On its own, the Hummingbird PRO Acoustic/Electric can drive an all-acoustic band or be front and center at a picking party with its sweet, balanced tone. Now with the Shadow ePerformer preamp and Shadow NanoFlex pickup system, The Hummingbird PRO can plug-in and hold its own on any size stage.

Solid Spruce Tonewood
The Hummingbird PRO Acoustic/Electric features a solid spruce top. Spruce is a rich and complex tonewood that begins to breathe and improve with age. The more you play, the better it sounds! The body and neck are made from select mahogany. The Hummingbird PRO neck has a classic SlimTaper D profile and features a 24.75" scale and is attached to the body with a glued-in dovetail joint. The rosewood fingerboard has pearloid parallelogram inlays, 20 medium frets, a 12" radius, and a 1.68" nut. There is single ply white binding on the fingerboard and 5-ply white & black binding on the body top while the back of the body has single ply white binding. The Hummingbird PRO has the classic sloped dovewing headstock has the "Epiphone" logo in white.

The Hummingbird PRO Acoustic/Electric's reverse belly rosewood bridge has a compensated saddle for smooth action and intonation. The Shadow NanoFlex pickup system is under the saddle and the classic Hummingbird/flower tortoise shell style pickguard is easy to spot on stage or across a room.

Shadow Pickup System
Epiphone and Shadow Germany have worked together for over a decade at perfecting ways to amplify an acoustic guitar on stage. The Hummingbird PRO is just one of many Epiphone guitars that feature a cutting edge pickup system that can handle any size gig and still produce an "acoustic" sound. The Hummingbird PRO's controls for the Shadow ePerformer Preamp are on the upper bout and include controls for Master Volume, Treble and Bass EQ, Mute, and a Dynamics control adjusted via a frequency curve. There is also a low batter indicator. The preamp is powered by two 2032 batteries. The output jack and strap locks are nickel and the Hummingbird PRO Acoustic/Electric is strung at the Epiphone factory with time-tested D'Addario Phosphor (12-53) strings.

Wow! I'm very impressed with this guitar. Out of the box tuned it up and, played it for 2 hours. Darned near perfect setup, action, intonation, no sharp frets, electronics perform flawlessly. Played for awhile acousticly remained in tune perfectly. Plugged into my Fishman Artist and, I could not belive the full rich and, powerful sounds that I heard! I have a Seagull Entourage, a Takamine and, an Ovation roundback and, a Taylor all acoustic electric instruments and, this Epi Humminbird will hang with any of these guitars with no problem. I know why that I own several Epi guitars, can't beat the price and, for what you spend the return is very pleasing. I would highly recommend this guitar to anyone looking for a reasonably priced instrument that gives superb performance!

bought this on a whim...wanted to use it on a few gigs coming up that needed some country western..rockabilly tunes figured this would be fun to switch out with my regular acoustic electric...when i received it the action and sound acoustically was great however plugged in it had an annoying hum...instead of sending back i sent it to a guitar tech...bad element...epiphone is sending me a new one via snail mail but the fact remains im missing 3 gigs i wanted to use it on....no testing of pickup before shipping?...i guess this is one reasonfolks dont buy online..a testing of the electronics before shipping would be appreciated....casey

Comments about Epiphone Hummingbird PRO Acoustic-Electric Guitar:

I own a Gibson, Fender, and Ovation Guitars... and this one has become my go to Guitar. It's got a great feel, the sound is crisp and clear with a nice overall tone. It's an easy player no matter where you're at on the neck. Plugged in, it can sound as "natural" as you want or as "thumpy" as you want. No buyers remorse with this one at all.

I use this guitar in my teaching classes. It's also available for students who need to use one. Good full tone unplugged, not a great fan of the piezo sound however. The electric tone is improved through the Fishman Mini amp however.

This is a fantastic instrument. I've had one for about a year and it sounds great plugged in. Stays in tune extremely well and the finish looks awesome. For anyone looking for an acoustic-electric guitar that won't break your bank, this is a great option. Also, the sound quality is very close to its Gibson counterpart

Comments about Epiphone Hummingbird PRO Acoustic-Electric Guitar:

this is a beginner guitar of a beach beater. It is not something I would bring on a stage. It clearly is not comparable to the Gibson, There is a $2000 diifference in price and in quality and sound.
I did not buy this guitar, I chose an alvarez MD-65 CE for 30 more but it was solid wood.t guitar
I think this is a decent, better than Luna, Dean, Ibanez, Fender, and Mitchell, and Tak. But not the best in this price class. I would go with Alvarez artist series for great guitars.
This is a drednought for certain that sound like a guitar in this price range the Pros are that it is solid top with electrics the cons is that it is laminated body with no gig bag and a troublesome electric system that is a catastrophe if the battery dies during a show.

Looks good too. Thin sounding compared to great guitars that could be priced 1K more. Plug it in, and you're in business. Stays in tune for days. The build quality is spot on. Great cheap guitar. I like the size; a tad bigger than a 000 but more compact than a dread. Fits well in the Musician's Gear hard case.

I have really enjoyed this guitar. It plays well out of the box and has a nice natural and amplified sound. The playability factor is solid performance. There are times when I do not want to drag the more expensive Gibson's or Fender's out, but I want a good sound for the sit in jam nights. This guitar plays all styles and fits my voice well. I use a VE-8 and GoRack and I have a gteat sound.
