Overview

The Epiphone Hummingbird PRO Acoustic/Electric guitar brings the legendary country/rock "Hummingbird" into the 21st century with the new Shadow ePerformer preamp and Shadow NanoFlex pickup system.

First introduced in 1960, the square shouldered Hummingbird quickly became a classic thanks to Keith Richards of The Rolling Stones, who used a Hummingbird for rhythm on early Stones hits like "Satisfaction," "Play With Fire," and "Under My Thumb." There are also many classic photographs of Keith using a Hummingbird on sessions for Exile on Main Street, Goat's Head Soup, and Sticky Fingers. Today, the Hummingbird is still a go-to acoustic for rockers like Noel Gallagher, Sheryl Crow, and Kid Rock when they need a rhythm guitar with smooth action and superb "woody" tone that's full of character.

On its own, the Hummingbird PRO Acoustic/Electric can drive an all-acoustic band or be front and center at a picking party with its sweet, balanced tone. Now with the Shadow ePerformer preamp and Shadow NanoFlex pickup system, The Hummingbird PRO can plug-in and hold its own on any size stage.

Solid Spruce Tonewood
The Hummingbird PRO Acoustic/Electric features a solid spruce top. Spruce is a rich and complex tonewood that begins to breathe and improve with age. The more you play, the better it sounds! The body and neck are made from select mahogany. The Hummingbird PRO neck has a classic SlimTaper D profile and features a 24.75" scale and is attached to the body with a glued-in dovetail joint. The rosewood fingerboard has pearloid parallelogram inlays, 20 medium frets, a 12" radius, and a 1.68" nut. There is single ply white binding on the fingerboard and 5-ply white & black binding on the body top while the back of the body has single ply white binding. The Hummingbird PRO has the classic sloped dovewing headstock has the "Epiphone" logo in white.

The Hummingbird PRO Acoustic/Electric's reverse belly rosewood bridge has a compensated saddle for smooth action and intonation. The Shadow NanoFlex pickup system is under the saddle and the classic Hummingbird/flower tortoise shell style pickguard is easy to spot on stage or across a room.

Shadow Pickup System
Epiphone and Shadow Germany have worked together for over a decade at perfecting ways to amplify an acoustic guitar on stage. The Hummingbird PRO is just one of many Epiphone guitars that feature a cutting edge pickup system that can handle any size gig and still produce an "acoustic" sound. The Hummingbird PRO's controls for the Shadow ePerformer Preamp are on the upper bout and include controls for Master Volume, Treble and Bass EQ, Mute, and a Dynamics control adjusted via a frequency curve. There is also a low batter indicator. The preamp is powered by two 2032 batteries. The output jack and strap locks are nickel and the Hummingbird PRO Acoustic/Electric is strung at the Epiphone factory with time-tested D'Addario Phosphor (12-53) strings.

I have owned the Hummingbird for about 6 weeks now, it was my first guitar. I always thought my fingers were too short to play, but I was determined to get around that somehow. This is a great guitar, it fits my hand and fingers, and it has an absolute classic look! My 12 year old son likes it so much as well that I got both the ebony and faded cherry. The pickup is great too!

So I received my guitar a few days ago, very exited. When i opened it, i let it get warm, then played it and it sounded fantastic. When i finally got a better look at it, i became very disappointed. I was inspecting the body, then noticed that there is a line down the middle of the guitar, and there was a line down the middle, separating two different tones of wood. VERY noticeable. I dont know if every hummingbird has this separation of woods, but it looks cheaply made. The second thing that got me upset was that when i was looking at the back of the guitar, i noticed a crack right on the side that look like shattered glass. Its not big, but it shouldnt be there. overall im not very happy, and i was fooled by the great reviews. Now i dont even have the box anymore so i cant return it. should be built alot better.

Comments about Epiphone Hummingbird PRO Acoustic-Electric Guitar:

I own a Gibson, Fender, and Ovation Guitars... and this one has become my go to Guitar. It's got a great feel, the sound is crisp and clear with a nice overall tone. It's an easy player no matter where you're at on the neck. Plugged in, it can sound as "natural" as you want or as "thumpy" as you want. No buyers remorse with this one at all.

I use this guitar in my teaching classes. It's also available for students who need to use one. Good full tone unplugged, not a great fan of the piezo sound however. The electric tone is improved through the Fishman Mini amp however.

Comments about Epiphone Hummingbird PRO Acoustic-Electric Guitar:

This is a fantastic instrument. I've had one for about a year and it sounds great plugged in. Stays in tune extremely well and the finish looks awesome. For anyone looking for an acoustic-electric guitar that won't break your bank, this is a great option. Also, the sound quality is very close to its Gibson counterpart

Comments about Epiphone Hummingbird PRO Acoustic-Electric Guitar:

I'm guilty! I read reviews all day long and once I get my product, I hardly ever write anything... Maybe just rate it... But, in this case, I decided my new dreadnought deserved some feedback! Overall, just like everyone says, this guitar is an A++ value! Super fun to play, pretty decent set up, although I thoroughly enjoy guitars with a good pro set up...this guitar has great tone and sweet looks! You may not get the depth of sound from an all solid wood acoustic, but this one isn't shabby! In fact, I love playing her as she's light, has a nice feeling neck and fretboard, and a really sweet voice! Definately impressed and still a fan of
Epiphone guitars! I've been playing mostly acoustic, but I did check the electronics and they work.... Not necessarily pro quality, but it's sufficient. I also have Epiphone models el-00 and aj45me which is probably my favorite epi....along with my Gibson SJ and a J45...which still are different class no matter what people say... Overall, I think if a guitar inspires you to play more and keeps you going back for more, then it's a good pickup!

Guitar center shipped quickly and well packed! Thank you Chris in Ohio! You da man!;) enjoy! FYI... I think the faded cherry is cheaper in store so call your local or closest guitar center...I think black is only at the warehouse.

If you have low self esteem, don't buy this guitar... Get the Gibson version. If you just want to play a great guitar then I highly recommend it. I've had it for a year or so and I still can't walk past it without playing it. I picked it up from my local store and it was set up perfectly. It sounds better today than it did when I first played it and it sounded great then. Plugged in it might sound even better. I own quite a few guitars and even have a few from my "headstock envy" days. This is the one that doesn't have any dust on it and my guitar playing son covets.
