Overview

The Epiphone Hummingbird PRO Acoustic/Electric guitar brings the legendary country/rock "Hummingbird" into the 21st century with the new Shadow ePerformer preamp and Shadow NanoFlex pickup system.

First introduced in 1960, the square shouldered Hummingbird quickly became a classic thanks to Keith Richards of The Rolling Stones, who used a Hummingbird for rhythm on early Stones hits like "Satisfaction," "Play With Fire," and "Under My Thumb." There are also many classic photographs of Keith using a Hummingbird on sessions for Exile on Main Street, Goat's Head Soup, and Sticky Fingers. Today, the Hummingbird is still a go-to acoustic for rockers like Noel Gallagher, Sheryl Crow, and Kid Rock when they need a rhythm guitar with smooth action and superb "woody" tone that's full of character.

On its own, the Hummingbird PRO Acoustic/Electric can drive an all-acoustic band or be front and center at a picking party with its sweet, balanced tone. Now with the Shadow ePerformer preamp and Shadow NanoFlex pickup system, The Hummingbird PRO can plug-in and hold its own on any size stage.

Solid Spruce Tonewood
The Hummingbird PRO Acoustic/Electric features a solid spruce top. Spruce is a rich and complex tonewood that begins to breathe and improve with age. The more you play, the better it sounds! The body and neck are made from select mahogany. The Hummingbird PRO neck has a classic SlimTaper D profile and features a 24.75" scale and is attached to the body with a glued-in dovetail joint. The rosewood fingerboard has pearloid parallelogram inlays, 20 medium frets, a 12" radius, and a 1.68" nut. There is single ply white binding on the fingerboard and 5-ply white & black binding on the body top while the back of the body has single ply white binding. The Hummingbird PRO has the classic sloped dovewing headstock has the "Epiphone" logo in white.

The Hummingbird PRO Acoustic/Electric's reverse belly rosewood bridge has a compensated saddle for smooth action and intonation. The Shadow NanoFlex pickup system is under the saddle and the classic Hummingbird/flower tortoise shell style pickguard is easy to spot on stage or across a room.

Shadow Pickup System
Epiphone and Shadow Germany have worked together for over a decade at perfecting ways to amplify an acoustic guitar on stage. The Hummingbird PRO is just one of many Epiphone guitars that feature a cutting edge pickup system that can handle any size gig and still produce an "acoustic" sound. The Hummingbird PRO's controls for the Shadow ePerformer Preamp are on the upper bout and include controls for Master Volume, Treble and Bass EQ, Mute, and a Dynamics control adjusted via a frequency curve. There is also a low batter indicator. The preamp is powered by two 2032 batteries. The output jack and strap locks are nickel and the Hummingbird PRO Acoustic/Electric is strung at the Epiphone factory with time-tested D'Addario Phosphor (12-53) strings.

I have owned the Hummingbird for about 6 weeks now, it was my first guitar. I always thought my fingers were too short to play, but I was determined to get around that somehow. This is a great guitar, it fits my hand and fingers, and it has an absolute classic look! My 12 year old son likes it so much as well that I got both the ebony and faded cherry. The pickup is great too!

I bought this for my son. He has perfect pitch and found out within 10 minutes of playing that the A,E and D strings on the 13th fret could not be properly tuned. We went to Guitar Center and tried a second one and it has the same problem. In fact the second one had significant fret buzz on the 13th and 14th frets. We ended up buying a Epiphone Masterbuilt which was much more expensive but was consistent and had a much brighter sound.

great guitar

By Daniel

Comments about Epiphone Hummingbird PRO Acoustic-Electric Guitar:

I ordered the Epiphone Hummingbird pro right around Christmas, I have had it now a couple weeks, and I couldn't be happier. This guitar is a beauty! It plays well and is set up great. I love the action on it. I bought the ebony, and it is a slick guitar. the only thing I wish it had was a built in tuner, but I got the korg soundhole tuner, and it works great! If you are thinking about buying this, I'd say do it. Don't let the price fool you, this is a great gutfiddle.

Epiphone Hummingbird Pro

By Steve Stewart

from Portsmouth,Ohio

Comments about Epiphone Hummingbird PRO Acoustic-Electric Guitar:

Received my hummingbird last week and have to say I was impressed with the overall workmanship of this guitar. The finish is flawless and the clear coat over the cherry burst finish looks inches deep. Now for the important stuff, came out of the box with only a couple of strings that needed tuned. The action is low and the guitar is easy to play. I'm not in love with the strings from the factory but they are fine for now, the sound is great. Unplugged it has a rich tone and carries very well, plugged up to my Crate amp you can really make this bird sing. Lots of different sounds all rich and bell clear. To compare it to a Gibson would be unfair but if you have a chance to play one I think you will find it can carry a tune with the best ones out there. Epiphone has hit another homerun in my opinion!

Wow! Why buy the Gibson??

By CARL

from SLC, Utah

Comments about Epiphone Hummingbird PRO Acoustic-Electric Guitar:

What more can I say than "Why spend the big bucks on the Gibson?" I played this guitar side by side with the $3,000.+ Gibson Hummingbird and could not tell the difference in the sound quality! I bought the Epiphone, put a new set of strings on it and the sound quality improved! The red cherry sunburst is stunning, I get many comments about how good this guitar looks. The out of the box action is awesome and did not require tweeking. It is very playable and sounds really good plugged in as well. You can't go wrong with this one!

Great guitar for the price.

By Jeremy

from Jasper, IN

Comments about Epiphone Hummingbird PRO Acoustic-Electric Guitar:

For the price, you will have a hard time finding a better acoustic-electric guitar. The action if fairly low and the overall quality of the guitar is good.

Comments about Epiphone Hummingbird PRO Acoustic-Electric Guitar:

If you have low self esteem, don't buy this guitar... Get the Gibson version. If you just want to play a great guitar then I highly recommend it. I've had it for a year or so and I still can't walk past it without playing it. I picked it up from my local store and it was set up perfectly. It sounds better today than it did when I first played it and it sounded great then. Plugged in it might sound even better. I own quite a few guitars and even have a few from my "headstock envy" days. This is the one that doesn't have any dust on it and my guitar playing son covets.

Awesome Guitar....Perfect for the price range.

      By Kwame Pok6

      from Kansas City, MO

Comments about Epiphone Hummingbird PRO Acoustic-Electric Guitar:

Hummingbird Pro is an awesome guitar. I fell in love with her the moment I saw her...she is stunning and she sound incredibly great. I'm a beginner when it comes to guitar but I did an extensive research before buying it and I saw a youtube video where they compare the Gibson Hummingbird Pro with the Epiphone Hummingbird Pro and you can hardly tell the difference but the difference in price is like $2000. In fact that was the deciding factor for me. So i can guranteed you'll definetely not regret getting it. Some complain about the strings not being great...well just replaced them with your fav string and you're good.

      Great guitar and great servicd

      By Randy Kieffer

      from Sturgis, sd

Comments about Epiphone Hummingbird PRO Acoustic-Electric Guitar:

Received my Epiphone Hummingbird Pro is a well packaged carton and the delivery time was in 3 days from time I ordered and received by guitar. Imagine my surprise when I unpacked it and it was even in tune. Have had it for about 2 weeks and really enjoy playing it. It is above all my expectations for such a reasonably priced guitar. I don't know how you can sell an instrument of this quality for the price I paid. I also enjoyed the coupon discount I received on my guitar. When I received my guitar there was not a smudge or blemish on it. The workmanship is super. It stays in tune with very little adjustment. I really like the color and finish on the instrument. Great job Guitar Center. Look forward to dong business in the future on other purchases.

      Impressive Guitar

      By Carl Strickland

      from Chelsea, Ok

Comments about Epiphone Hummingbird PRO Acoustic-Electric Guitar:

I received my Epi Hummingbird a couple weeks ago and have been very pleased with it. The ship packaging was very well packed.. no scuffs, scratch, or ding anywhere on it. She was ready to go right out of the box... little E had to be tuned a bit. It played great.. The tone, action and feel was as good as any high dollar martin, washburn, or gibson I'd played. I used it in a acoustic show and plugged thru the mixer, the sound was awesome... the electronics worked incredible. If you do any distortions,, stay with your Tele or strat.. she don't sound bad distorted but IMHO she shines better clean. Buck for buck you can't go wrong with this beauty!!
