Last night, I went to visit GC with my dad, seeking the Hummingbird; seeing if it lived up to its expectations. When I held it in my lap, it fitted right in with my body. When I played it, it sounded so melodic, even with the original strings on it (though it would be better to change the strings to some D'Addarios). The bass was not too low or high, and the neck was easy to slide up on. The price is the best for this wonderful Epiphone. I'd suggest this guitar for anyone that can play. The color in the pictures is way too light. I fell in love with the sunburst, even though it usually isn't my color.

If you're going for a guitar with a more beautiful look then definitely get this guitar. The finish is pretty great, just like the original Gibson. However, if you want a guitar with a better quality and tone then look somewhere else. I went to my local GC and compared this to the Gibson HM and a Seagull Entourage. In my opinion, the Seagull Entourage blows all of them right out of the water! I guess every guitar is different for everyone but I found neither hummingbirds to be effective. The tone was very weak and less crisp compared to the Entourage. Quality really makes a difference. Epiphones are mass produced on the other side of the world while Seagulls are handmade in Canada and as soon as you play both you will hear the difference. For the price difference you get a guitar that will last longer, unlike this Epi hummingbird which will probably give you 3 years if you're lucky.

Excellent

Comments about Epiphone Hummingbird Acoustic Guitar:

I owned a Gibson Hummingbird back in the late 60's. Walked into Guitar Center to look at acoustic guitars, played several, and was blown away when I picked up and played this guitar. Great mid-range, sweet tone, and a beautiful guitar to look at. Couldn't believe it was on sale for $299.00. I consider this to be one of those "deals of a lifetime". Bought it..L-O-V-E it!

'Like It Better Than Gibson's

By Chad Sobodash

from Rochester Hills, MI

Comments about Epiphone Hummingbird Acoustic Guitar:

I was at a local guitar shop recently looking for my next purchase. I was considering the EL-00 because I thought a parlor guitar would be a nice addition to my arsenal. Sadly, they did not carry it. However, they had both the Gibson and Epiphone Hummingbird, which I was eager to try ever since I saw it on BrightEyes' "Four Winds" video. I first played the Gibson, and was rather unimpressed with it. It featured a puffy-sticker decal as it's pickguard (which was shifted out of place--they will be returning it) and it just didn't sound special. It was somewhat the antithesis of the higher-end Yamahas; mellow, but weak. Not impressed, I nearly passed up playing the Epiphone, but being a fan of the company and of their archtops, I decided to give it a go. This is my guitar. This is the guitar I will take with me to the ends of the earth. I played it for maybe four minutes before telling them to keep a hold of it for me while I replenish my funds. The Epiphone Hummingbird rings with such powerful midranges; soft as a hummingbird's flight and sweet as the nectar it drinks. The guitar itself is a beauty; none of that puffy-sticker pickguard the Gibson had. This is a quality guitar, and you won't be disappointed by it.

A Great Guitar and a Great Value

By George

from Montgomery, Alabama

Comments about Epiphone Hummingbird Acoustic Guitar:

It's hard to find a moderately priced guitar that gives you great sound, tone and playability but when I played this Epiphone Hummingbird, I was very impressed. After playing it and hearing it I had to have it, although it took three tries to get it. The first two arrived damaged but the Guitar Center staff worked with me until we got it right. It was well worth the wait. I have always been impressed with the value, sound, and quality of Epiphone products and the Hummingbird is no exception. This little guitar has beautiful ringing sound and a stunning, classic, visual appearance. Very pleased with this guitar and the price. For me it was well worth the money.

you get what you pay for

Comments about Epiphone Hummingbird Acoustic Guitar:

This is a pretty good guitar, I used to have one. Obviously since it has a mahogany body and a spruce top, its got a nice deep, warm sound, just like all solid tops. However I don't understand why people see it as exceptional, personally I think it sounds mediocre for a solid spruce top guitar. And it in no way compares to a martin, go play even the 500 dollar DX model martins, they sound so much better in every way, and they FEEL so much better. If I had 300 dollars to spend on an acoustic, and didnt want to save any more, then yes this is a good buy. But I would never say that this is better than more expensive guitars. I own a yamaha fg750s, which is 100 dollars more, and I think it has a much fuller, richer sound than this guitar, and more importantly a better feel. If I had 300 bucks I would save 100-200 more for something nicer (such as a martin DX1, masterbilt epiphone, yamaha fg750s, etc.)

Why buy a Martin?

By guitarslinger71

Comments about Epiphone Hummingbird Acoustic Guitar:

I bought my hummingbird in Tucson, AZ.about six months ago. I wasn't sure what brand or model I was going to buy. I played a Martin D-28 and D-18 and then the salesman said to save my money and try the Hummingbird. I was blown away! The feel of the neck was perfect and the tone had good bass and crisp highs. It is proof positive that you do not have to buy an $1800.00 Martin in order to get a great guitar. I plan on buying a Dove Ebony model next.

Beautiful to play and see!

By David Morningstar

from Pa

Comments about Epiphone Hummingbird Acoustic Guitar:

I recently traded an electric guitar in on this guitar and I am very glad I did. It is a pleasure to play and is almost as easy as my electrics. It's action is great. It is a real beauty as well. I have been getting many compliments on how great it looks when I play gigs. The sound is very clean and it projects nicely. I have a rather rare Grammer Dreadnought that I play that is made of the same materials and it sounds as good and is easier to play. I definatly think the price is right of this guitar and I would recomend it highly. The picture doesn't do justice to the finish and color of the actual guitar it is really pretty. Buy and enjoy!

Epiphone Hummingbird Cherry Sunburst

By Arthur Andersen

from Metairie LA

Comments about Epiphone Hummingbird Acoustic Guitar:

In a word, AWESOME!!! Arrived fast and in perfect condition, even tuned. The action was perfect and the strings are not too hard on my fingers. The intonation was excellent and easily would equal in quality the Gibson Hummingbird at alot less $$ I love it. Too bad a case or bag is not recomended with it.

Incredible!

Comments about Epiphone Hummingbird Acoustic Guitar:

I got the ebony version after playing the other in the store, I fell in love immediatly! Not only did the guitar sound beautiful, but it looks amazing in ebony! The only word of caution, my husband was expecting the pickgaurd to be black, and it isn't, it is a beautiful dark brown. The sound is really rich and it has a great tone, I am so glad I went with it!
