The real deal

By H-Boyz

Comments about Epiphone Goth 1958 Explorer Electric Guitar:

Ok here's the skinny on this little monster. All I have ever owned are gibson's.I have a flying v a paul and a les paul custom. The way I have this explorer set up its plays just as nice as any of the above. If you have checked out the reviews on this guitar most people say to replace the pickups. The stock pickups in this guitar are not that bad.I replaced mine to a gibson Tony Iommi in the bridge. Now the guitar absolutly screams.I played a gibson at the local guitar center and my epiphone plays just as well.Believe it or not I perfer the epiphone.Right now my band is working on our second album and I have used this little demon on almost every song.Trust me this is not just a stand in for a gibson.I'm so impressed with this axe I'm thinking about getting a epip gothic sg.So if your thinking about buying one and dont mind putting a little extra cash in a bridge pickup this baby is a winner. In short epiphone guitar's RULE !!!!!!!

Great deal

By spittle8

Comments about Epiphone Goth 1958 Explorer Electric Guitar:

If you're a Metallica fan, this does NOT equate Hetfield tone. His explorers were LTD's, I believe, and they had EMG's. However, this is a great guitar for hard rock and metal. Tone: Very nice. The bridge 'bucker sounds like most low end Epi bridge pickups, which isn't a bad thing. This guitar seems capable of harder metal than most, however. The rythm pickup is capable of bluesy leads, and good, shimmering leads, as you would hear on some Pantera solos. Through the right amp, this guitar KILLS for metal tone. Build: Sweet. These guitars are often much better than Gibson Explorers, of which I've found many to be duds. These are well built guitars, sturdy, with a good finish, and a set neck. You could fault the lack of a Floyd Rose trem, or locking tuners. Overall, this is a very good guitar. For the price, it's amazing. Even a good Schecter is more than this, and this guitar competes with higher priced Gibson Explorer's in my book, almost. A worthy addition to a fan of hard rock and metal.

best guitar i've ever owned

By Brian L.

from Morehead, KY

Comments about Epiphone Goth 1958 Explorer Electric Guitar:

I've had this Epiphone Goth Explorer for 2 and a half years and I will never part with it. I upgraded the pickups to the EMG Zakk Wylde Set and they really brought it to life. The original pickups didn't sound bad for hard rock but I wanted more power for playing metal. I would reccomend this guitar to anybody.

I was surprised

By Thailar

from Eugene, OR

Comments about Epiphone Goth 1958 Explorer Electric Guitar:

I love my gibson sg and I also love the looks of the explorer however the gibson explorers were just too much money for me right now. I have owned a cheap epi before and for the price it was decent but I really am not all that impressed with epiphone. However I found this epi used with emgs installed and I was very impressed! I bought it mostly because I love the explorer look but dang, this epi actually plays very nicely! I was really surprised. Haven't tried the stock pickups but the emgs sound awesome. The only thing I didn't like is the gothic look so I am custom making a white pick guard for it. Great guitar though, especially for someone who wants an explorer at a good price.

Love It

By Jeff Dowler

from Texas

Comments about Epiphone Goth 1958 Explorer Electric Guitar:

I had one of these bad boys a while back. It got stolen from me a couple of years ago. I hated that it got taken from me because it was my baby. I played this guitar every day. My band was making an album at the time where i owned it and i used it on every single song. It screamed. Hook this puppy up to a Dimebag Crybaby, and you have got a match made in heaven. I loved that guitar. I highly recommend that you get this guitar. You will not be dissapointed.

Amazing

By Tony

Comments about Epiphone Goth 1958 Explorer Electric Guitar:

Dude, This thing is a beast. Everytime i pick it up to play for a couple of minutes it turns into an hour or two. The neck is smooth as can be and i dont care what anybody says the pickups are great. This guitar will not let you down. It is durable enough to take on the worst. I own a 4,000 dollar les paul but i would rather play this thing any day. You can do it all with this guitar. You can go from zepplin to coheed to lamb of god, Bottom line is this is a beautiful instrument and it will not let you down:)

awsome and flawless

By tony castaneda

Comments about Epiphone Goth 1958 Explorer Electric Guitar:

I have owned gibsons for 10 years now. i thought i would never play an epiphone. i was in guitarcenter one night and saw this thing. oh my god my jaw droped. i could not believe the sustain on this thing. the pickups were muddy but some emgs could change that. this guitar is great for metal. i bought this guitar and some emgs that night and the next day it was setup and used at my gig. i play through a raven halfstack and use a boss metalcore, but throw this guitar in the mix and you got an amazing setup. this guitar has great sustain, tons of low end, gig worthy and one hell of an axe. if you have the moneand are lookin for a good guitar. this guitar is an amazing investment.:)

Comments about Epiphone Goth 1958 Explorer Electric Guitar:

I got one of these cause of James Hetfiled (Metallica) and it was and still great. I don't use it much any more on and off cause of my new Explorer. But thes one was great vary nice all around. The first time I used it I know that these guitars were for me. These guitars need metal lovers. If u don't, don't get one. But i would say try one and odds are ull like 0or love it or them like me.

Great Guitar

By Ryan

from Charleston, South Carolina

Comments about Epiphone Goth 1958 Explorer Electric Guitar:

I recently got this guitar for my birthday, and I have loved everymoment that it has been in my hands. The only negatives about it are that the pickups arent the best(i recomend a pair of emg pickups),and it could really use straplocks(i recomend ernie ball super locks). If u are thinking of getting this guitar, GO FOR IT!!!

    Great, but...

    By spencer

    from Los Angeles, CA

Comments about Epiphone Goth 1958 Explorer Electric Guitar:

This guitar is great. There is no reason to pass this one up for a Gibson, or something else crazy expensive. If you're looking at this guitar because you wanna be James Hetfield, go ahead and buy this, but the sound of the original pickups is not like James'. You gotta pony up for an EMG 81 and 60. But if you aren't trying to model anyone's sound, this guitar is great. Its fast, the neck feels good, and it can do good hard rock.

i got this guitar a couple of weeks ago...i took it out right away and started jamming with it...it is a very good guitar...it has a very good feel to it and the pickups dont sound that bad my only suggestion is get new strings because the factory ones are ok but put on some new ones they are better...i am going to be putting emg's in the the guitar 81/85 then it is going to sound sick...

    Amazing bang for your buck.

    By Nick

    from South Amboy, New Jersey

Comments about Epiphone Goth 1958 Explorer Electric Guitar:

I bought one of these guitars earlier this week and i love it. It is a little on the heavy side and can use a good set of strap locks. But its tone and a capability are incredible. I have played Gibson Explorers and this one definitly matches up. I have running through a line 6 Spider 4 and a Ibanez DS-& distortion pedal and the guitar absolutly screams. Down the line it will need a pick up upgrade but for an amateur player or intermediate it does the job well. the picks arent neccesary if u r trying to play music along lines of clutch and bands in the death metal genre.

    Awesome, but nothing's perfect

    By Ryan A.

    from San Diego, CA

Comments about Epiphone Goth 1958 Explorer Electric Guitar:

I picked up this beast a few weeks ago, and I've never been happier with any decision. First of all, the guitar looks really awesome, and the lack of inlays, while I'd prefer there be inlays, really enhances the dark look. One thing I have to point out, however, is that the picture shows tulip machine heads. Mine has kidney machine heads. The tuners hold their tune really well and are pretty precise. My dad had played it a few times over the course of 2 weeks, and when I came back, it was still in tune. The satin finish is just magical. I don't like finishes that rub against your thumb because I tend to go up and down the fingerboard A LOT, so the smooth finish really helps. There is some fret buzz, but it is so minimal, that I didn't notice it until about a week later. The pickups were set up perfectly. They're Alnico II Classics. Distorted, they're some mean pickups, but they're noisy. Cleans sound very pure, especially when the toggle switch is at the middle position. One problem I have experienced is that the Master Tone Knob has become very wobbly. The other two knobs are very secure, on the other hand. The killswitch is good for making your guitar "stutter", and I play around with it sometimes. For the money, this guitar is actually really good.

    METAL GUITAR

    By ian hale

    from westbrook

Comments about Epiphone Goth 1958 Explorer Electric Guitar:

Ive had this since last year and i do say its one of the best guitars ive played. It feels and plays nicely I think the pickups are perfect for this guitar. I do have one problem and it makes me mad every time it happens, the strap holders dont hold very well and it may just be the strap though so i say buy the guitar its worth the money.

    Great beginner guitar

    By James Thompson

    from Falls Church, Virginia

Comments about Epiphone Goth 1958 Explorer Electric Guitar:

I was learning to play using a used Squire Strat I had bought of CL for my son about a dozen years ago, but decided to upgrade to this baby. Beautiful black finish, strings smooth as glass (so they don't hurt your fingers as much when you are first learning to play), the guitar was in perfect shape when I picked it up at GC. Had it shipped to GC to save on the shipping. Only been playing it a few weeks but, I really enjoy practicing with this guitar rather than the Squire. On this axe you will easily put in your 15-20 minutes of practice recommended when you are learning. It is lighter than the Strat and seems to stay in tune relatively well. It fits into my Roadrunner case easily. I love the shape and feel of the guitar.

    EMGs needed

    By that guy

    from berea, OH

Comments about Epiphone Goth 1958 Explorer Electric Guitar:

this guitar has a lot of potential to be great. the only real problem i could find was the pick-ups, i would throw some emg pick-ups 81/85 in this baby really kick it up a notch. the only other thing i would change would be the bridge i would get floyd rose tremolo, but thats just a personal preferance. over all this is a nice guitar, i bought mine used only 215 so i got a great bargin. but i would never pay 400+ for this guitar especially with all the work that needs done on it.
