Overview

Epiphone's Ltd. Ed. ES-339 P-90 PRO is a modern guitar with roots firmly planted in Epiphone's classic era when Epi's famed Kalamazoo factory produced rock's most legendary instruments in the late '50s and '60s. Featuring a reduced-size ES-style body and Epiphone's new P-90R PRO "soapbar" pickups, the ES-339 P-90 PRO semi-hollowbody turns back the clock while breaking new ground in sound and style. Case sold separately.

A Legend Reborn
First introduced in the late '50s, the original ES Series became an instant rock classic that brought the feel and look of an archtop to a generation of players who had grown up playing solid body guitars like the Les Paul. But for some, ES-style archtops felt too bulky to play on stage or in the studio. Now, the ES-339 P-90 PRO is the perfect remedy featuring smaller body dimensions while still retaining the bell-like tone the ES Series is famous for. And, just like Epi's nouveau classic ProBucker humbuckers, the P-90 PRO "soapbar" pickups are a stunning recreation of the first generation of handwound P-90s which many consider the best single-coil pickup ever made.

Solid Epiphone Construction
The Epiphone Ltd. Ed. ES-339 P-90 PRO features a reduce-size laminated maple body with a solid center block like original ES-style classics and a black pickguard with metal "E" insignia. The mahogany SlimTaper "D" profile 24.75" scale neck has 22 medium-jumbo frets and is hand-set and glued with a mortise and tenon neck joint with Titebond glue. The 12" radius neck features a rosewood fingerboard with pearloid inlays and a 1.68" nut. Single-ply cream binding on the fingerboard and body completes the classic look.

Introducing the new Epiphone P-90R PRO
The Ltd. Ed. ES-339 P-90 PRO features Epiphone's P-90R PRO "soapbar" pickup, a true recreation of the first generation of P-90 pickups found in Les Pauls. Epiphone P-90R PRO single-coil pickups are individually voiced for rhythm and lead and provide a huge variety of sound choices for the modern guitarist. For those used to carrying two or three guitars to get all their favorite sounds, the Ltd. Ed. ES-339 P-90 may be all you'll ever need to take to a gig from now on.

Epiphone's guaranteed electronics also include standard controls for each pickup's volume and tone with smooth black tophats with metal inserts, a tough 3-way toggle switch, and an all-metal heavy-duty Epiphone 1/4" output jack that gives you a lifetime of worry-free use.

Tough Epiphone Hardware
The Ltd. Ed. ES-339 P-90 PRO features rock-solid hardware including Epiphone's LockTone Tune-o-matic bridge and Stopbar tailpiece along with "Deluxe" tuners with tulip style buttons.

These P-90's are sweet!! They have nice detail and a deep bottom end. You do get some nice tones by working the knobs. I like these pickups better than the ones in the 2014 Melody Maker. The rest of the guitar is standard Epiphone, ie frets were a little rough, saddles a little sharp, intonation a little off. Typical stuff, especially in this price range. This axe does have a center block. Tuners are adequate. I spent some bucks getting the frets leveled and polished and having the bridge more accurately cut. I will jam with this guitar in a day or two and have a better idea of what I have but my initial impressions are pretty positive. I know money is tight but I encourage folks to pay that little extra and at least get a basic set-up.

I really wanted to like this guitar. I love the color, the size, the weight, and the sound of the P90 pickups. What I don't love is how noisy the P90s are with my standard setup. I'm not a high gain type of user, I play Classic Rock, some Country, some 80's, and Christian Rock. The noise in most areas that I've tried it in is just too much to ignore. So it's with a heavy heart that I'm going to take this back to GC.

Comments about Epiphone ES-339 P90 PRO Semi-Hollowbody Electric Guitar:

I currently own a Gibson and a Fender that I love. Right out of the box this Epiphone ES 339 in Pelham Blue just blew me away. Everybody says what a beautiful guitar. The setup is great, the build quality is great. I have purchased all my guitars from Guitar Center and have never been let down. Enjoy!

Comments about Epiphone ES-339 P90 PRO Semi-Hollowbody Electric Guitar:

Although this guitar will require a little work to correct above issues (like filling down nut slots and adjusting neck a bit) it has a serious tone, especially for metal, and so I've decided to keep it. However if your goal is to get an axe with true hollow-body sound, go for a Casino (or a Gretsch 6120, if you're lucky enough to be able to afford one).

Comments about Epiphone ES-339 P90 PRO Semi-Hollowbody Electric Guitar:

        Classic rock, blues
I started out looking for something with humbuckers since I already own a strat & a tele, thinking I didn't need another guitar with single coil pups. Well, I started playing this guitar thru my amp at GC and was very impressed with the nice, bluesie tone I got after playing with the tone pots & having both pups on. The action was a little high, but all it needed was lowering the bridge down a tad. I like the smaller 339 body. The neck set into the body is as flawless as any Gibson and it has a beautiful finish after you clean up everyone's finger prints off of it.
I like it. Try it out of a good tube amp & I think you will too.

The guitar is amazing. Plays nice, has a unique sound...but I do have an issue with Guitar Center. I purchased this guitar to be new, not used. Let me explain: The guitar I got is 1 of 2 things - 1) a trade in or 2) a heavily used floor model. The pick guard is all marked up and the strings are NOT Gibson Brite Wires. Pretty unacceptable if you ask me.

The guitar is pretty nice, basically as described. You can basically play any type of music with it.

My complaint is that I bought this and it was supposed to be brand new. I got 1 of 2 things or maybe both: 1. An overworked floor model or 2. A used guitar that was traded in. Reasons - the pickguard was all marked up, the strings are definitely not Gibson Brite Wires, and there was already fret wear on the guitar. So I would never buy from Guitar Center again unless it's in person.

So first off I bought this to use in jazz band in college and it fits the bill petty well, it can also handle distortion alright, at least better than full holobodys, but I wouldn't recommend it unless you can deal with the constant hum of th p90s. Also like with most epiphones, upgrades are pretty much required. I would recommend switching out the tuners, electronics, and if they don't suit you pickups. All around though not a bad guitar and you could do a lot worse at this price point.

I want to make it clear that i'm a Fender and Gretsch fan. Never liked Gibson, ar least the Gibson i like i can't afford to buy. Therefor, buying an Epiphone was NEVER MY PLAN!!! My wife is a big fan of jazz and blues. I like it but don't play it as much. Our first year/marriage anniversary came around and she surprised me with this guitar.. (mine's red tho).. I play a lot of acoustic; therefore, i have a heavy strum. I just like getting a lot of feeling out of my strumming. This guitar can take a GOOD STRUMMING!!! I've been playing a lot of rockabilly with it and this baby can defenetly take a beating. To please my wife i've even been jammin' to some jazz.. not bad at all.. (i'm starting to get into it).. The P90's are great! If you're into jazz/blues/rock and want to get a feel for a semi-hollow body at a reasonable price LOOK NO FURTHER!!

Maybe I've just been lucky, but the last several Epi's that I've purchased, A Casino and now the ES-33, have been very well set up right out of the box. There were little tweeks required, there always are regardless of price point, but after that I've been able to get the guitar right where I like it. The smaller body of the 339 makes it as comfortable as my Strat, just with it's own family of voices. The P-90s deliver quite an expanse of sounds, and my Wine red copy is absolutely beautiful. If MF has the Epi hardshell case available, I highly recommend that as well. This guitar deserves that kind of protection.
